Aaron Dale Sarratt, 19, Neosho, died March 30, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, following a sudden illness. 

Aaron was born Jan. 3, 1996 in Joplin and was a lifelong area resident. Aaron is survived by his mother and father, Dorothy Rose LeHew and Allen Dale Sarratt, both of Neosho; maternal grandmother, Shirley Prenot and husband, Frank of Neosho; maternal grandfather, David Hilary LeHew of Wetumpka, AL; paternal grandmother, Dina Sarratt of Joplin; maternal great grandmother, Julia Ann Loper of Neosho; two sisters, Natalie Marie Sarratt and Erica Nicole Sarratt, both of Neosho; two aunts, Victoria Ann Loper and Amanda Rae LeHew, both of Neosho.

John Jordon

John D. Jordon, III, went to be with His Lord and Saviour at 2:25 pm, March 30, 2015. 

John was born Nov. 16, 1956 in Neosho, Missouri, the son of John D. Jordon, II and Delsie Gideon Jordon. He was a lifelong area resident of Goodman and Granby and had served in the Army Reserves for eleven years. John owned and operated Jordon Tree Service for over 18 years. He loved to ride his Harley, was an avid hunter and enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their activities. He was a member of the Miracle Church of Granby. 

John married Patricia ‘Pat’ Kimmel on April 17, 1976 at Carl Junction, MO and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Wayne Jordon and wife, Janice of Granby; John Jordon and wife, Cheri of Neosho; Michelle Moore and husband, Daniel of Neosho and Jamey Jordon and wife, Kathy of Neosho; three sisters, Joyce Adams of Goodman; Jearldine Wright of Joplin and Jolene Edens of Joplin and thirteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Myers.

Phyllis Dittmar

Phyllis Louise Dittmar, 70, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:20 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg. 

She was born July 26, 1944, at Miami, OK, the daughter of Lloyd Lester and Virginia Lee (Shephard) Dirck Sr. She went on to graduate from high school in Kellogg, ID. Phyllis attended the Frontenac United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Wesley House and the Salvation Army. She also loved to dance, play bingo, dominos and cards. Her greatest love was her family especially anything involving her grandchildren. 

Phyllis is survived by one son, William Scott Dittmar of Frontenac, two daughters, Trisha Lynn Brewer of Olathe, KS, and Stephanie Suzanne Strong and her husband, Doug of Frontenac, two sisters, Joyce Snodgrass of Carthage, MO, and Janice Dirck Wade of Galena, KS, and four grandchildren, Lindsey Danielle Strong, Jake Ray Brewer, Caylee Nicole Strong and Kennedy Reece Brewer. She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Wendell Gray and one brother, Lloyd Lester Dirck Jr. 

A graveside service for Phyllis is set for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the Jesse F. Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin, MO. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Wesley House. Don Loudermilk

Donald R. Loudermilk, 75, Diamond, died March 29, 2015 at his home following an illness.

 

Don was born January 22, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Robert and Elna (Hooker) Loudermilk. He lived most of his life in this area. Don served in the U.S. Navy and owned and operated Don’s 24 Hour Wrecker Service since 1984. He was a Diamond Police Reserve Officer for 9 years and was an avid fisherman. 

Don married Pearl Mahurin on April 7, 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma, and she survives. Also surviving are one brother, Bob Loudermilk of Joplin; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Donny Loudermilk on July 17, 2010. 

Services will be Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of God in Granby, Ashley Edgemon will officiate.

Dorris M. Benham, 51, Neosho, died March 28, 2015 at Carthage Health and Rehab, following an illness. Doris was born May 8, 1963 in Muskegon, MI and was a homemaker. She worked at Hardees and enjoyed working there and the friends she made. Doris was a member of the Hilldale Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Rachelle Jo. Neihardt and husband, Greg Wolfe and Kristen Bickford and husband, Shawn; two brothers, one sister; nine grandchildren and her significant other, David Ritter. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse G. and JoAnn (Rose) Burns; her husband, Jesse J. Miller and a grandson, Austin Hiatt.

Mary Joanne Saccanne, 75, of Joplin, MO, passed away at 8:39 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Freeman Health System, Joplin, MO. She was born October 10, 1939, at Kansas City, KS, to George Thomas and Blanche (Bruce) Arnold. She graduated from Turner High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to Charles R. Saccanne in Pittsburg, KS. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1995. Mrs. Saccanne worked as a secretary for many years. Joanne was a resident of Pittsburg, KS, for over 35 years. Survivors include her son, Tom Clelland of Pittsburg, KS; a special friend, Mike Howard of Joplin, MO; a sister, Sylvia Taylor of Kansas City, KS; a nephew, David Arnold of Dallas, TX; and four nieces Julie Piano, of Dallas, TX, Laurie Sneed of Dallas, TX, Karrie Madragul of Kansas City, KS, and Lisa Taylor, of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Norman Arnold. Joe Brown

Joe R. Brown, 82, Carthage, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness.  Joe Richard Brown was born October 1, 1932 in Gracemont, Oklahoma; a son of the late Clarence Lester Brown and Mamie King Brown.  Joe was a graduate of Oney High School, Oney, OK, Class of 1952, received his B.S. degree from Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma City, OK and his M.S. degree from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas.  He married Mary Jo Coker on August 19, 1957 in Miami, OK; she survives.  Early in his career, Joe was an engineer for Boeing Aircraft, Sibley Engineering and Medco; he later settled into teaching, math and drafting in Orlando, FL, Mounds, OK and later at Carthage R-9 Schools and East Newton School System.  He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage where he was a Sunday school teacher.

Additional survivors include, two daughters; Peggy (George) Ostrander, Plano, Texas and Karen (Gary) Swain, Naples, Florida; a son, Richard A. (Melissa) Brown, Alamagordo, New Mexico; a sister, Ida Davis, Carthage and Fern Abbott, Gracemont, OK; three brothers, George Brown and Jerry (Linda) Brown of Atascadero, California, Tom (Alice) Brown, Champagne, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers.

William Stahl

William H. Stahl, age 94 of Joplin, MO., passed away Monday March 23, 2015 at the Iroquois Rehab Center in Jamesville, NY. 

He was born on August 21, 1920 in Lockwood, MO., the son of William Sr., and Mae Stahl. Bill married Lorena Woodruff on December 5, 1991 in Joplin, Mo. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2015. Bill worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a conductor for 37 years. 

Bill was preceded in death by is first wife, Wynona as well as his parents and a sister Ethel. Survivors include a son Ronald Stahl and his wife Barbara of Syracuse, NY. Five grandchildren, Matthew Miller and his wife Jackie Newman, of Galax, VA., Geoffrey Miller of Syracuse, NY., Genna Miller of Buffalo, NY., Mark Stahl of Dexter, NY., and Zach Stahl of Watertown, NY, as well as his former brother-in-law Robert Black of Columbus, KS. 

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 - 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the mortuary.

Lorraine Hubbard

Lorraine Joyce (Erickson) Hubbard, 78, Neosho, died March 26, 2015 at Freeman West in Joplin. 

She was born September 26, 1936 in Iron River, Michigan, the daughter of Karl and Edith (Ahlberg) Erickson. Lorraine served in the U. S. Coast Guard and then worked for the State of Michigan for many years as County Clerk. She moved to Neosho in 1968 for a few years and worked for the Neosho Police Department. Lorraine then moved back to Michigan for 30 years before returning to Neosho to spend time with her granddaughter. She was an avid animal lover. 

Lorraine is survived by one son, Jerry Hubbard and wife, Rashele of Neosho; one brother, Ronald Erickson of Knoxville, TN; and one granddaughter, Jennie Grace Hubbard. Additional survivors include three cousins residing in Iron River, Michigan. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents. 

No services are planned. Cremation services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home.

Michael Day

Michael Paul Day, age 60, Joplin, passed away at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Freeman Hospital.

Michael was born December 12, 1954 in Joplin to the late Loren Day and Shirley Webb Day and was a lifetime Joplin resident.

He worked for the City of Joplin at the Joplin Health Department for over 25 years as an environmental health specialist.

Michael was a longtime member of the N.R.A. and Joplin Rifle and Pistol Club. He enjoyed shooting sports and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Michael restored classic corvettes, bringing the total to seven that he built over the years.

Survivors include his son, Adam Day and his wife, Heather, Joplin; and two grandchildren, Kylee and Michael.

Graveside services are planned for Monday at Noon at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Day, Michael Kesinger, Kelley Webb, David Russell, Alex Belt and Ryan Talken. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Joplin Health Department for the support Michael received and the friendships he made throughout the years.

Connie Dill

Connie Dill, 63, Granby, MO, was born March 01, 1952. She passed away on March 26, 2015 at home with her loved ones after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willie Jo Hendricks and Harry Hendricks. Also preceded in death by a sister Shirley Franklin of Nevada, MO., two brothers Bill Hendricks of El Dorado Springs and Jack Hendricks of Stockton, MO.

Connie is survived by one sister Dorothy Ray of Nevada and many nieces, Nephews, Aunts, and uncles. 

She was married to Teddy Dill of Granby, MO; he survives.

Also surviving are her son Raymond Dill and wife Audrey, a daughter Margie and husband Gabe Henry of Paris, TX. Four grandchildren, Austin Dill of Granby, Teddy Dill of Granby, Joseph Dill and wife Katherine, Joplin, Mo. and Cody Henry of Paris, Tx.

Jody Moss

Jody Moss, 85, formerly of Neosho, died March 26, 2015 in Lockwood, Missouri, following a lengthy illness. 

She was born to Lynn and Margaret (Hunter) Hamlet on December 25, 1929 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Jody lived in Northern Missouri as a child and in 1955 moved to Neosho, where she lived until 2 ½ years ago when she moved to Lockwood. Jody was a homemaker and member of the First Presbyterian Church in Neosho. She was also a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, Jaycee Wives, Flower Box City Council and Friendship Extension Club. Jody loved plants, playing the piano and crocheting afghans. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Neosho Fish Hatchery, camping, fishing and traveling, but her greatest love was being with family and playing games around the kitchen table. 

Jody married Bob Moss on September 18, 1949 in Hamilton, Missouri, and he survives. Also surviving are three children, Barbie Cope and husband, Jeff of Lockwood; Brenda Piliouras and husband, George of Rochester, Michigan; and Bobbi Lee and husband, Matt of Yukon, Oklahoma; one brother, Larry Hamlet of Indianapolis, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Arin Ogden and husband, Riley of Lockwood; Kaci Keatts and husband, Jeremy of Republic; Rene’ Lee of Oklahoma; Jessie Schrauger and husband, Stephen of Florida; Lauren Keller and husband, Alex of Illinois; Kelly Brown and husband, Antony of Illinois; Ashley Hamilton of Michigan and Drew Hamilton of Michigan; and two great grandsons.

Gladys McAlister

Gladys Louise McAlister, 86, Neosho, died March 26, 2015. 

She was born to John and Amanda (Norris) Daugherty on July 18, 1928 in Neosho. Gladys was a lifelong Neosho resident and had worked for Sale Memorial Hospital in housekeeping. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. 

Gladys married Lindle Eugene McAlister in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1977. She is survived by two sons, Larry McAlister and wife, Debbie of Diamond and Edward (Eddie) McAlister and wife, Sheri of Neosho; one sister-in-law, Leona Daugherty of Neosho; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys is preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Boman, and a brother, Raymond Daugherty.

Harold Smith

Harold Eugene Smith, 72, Neosho, entered into rest on March 26, 2015, 

Harold was born February 06, 1943 in Neosho, Missouri, the son of Harold and Ruby Opal (Slaughter) Smith. He was a lifelong area resident. He was a Dairy farmer in addition to operating a logging business. Harold enjoyed hunting and the outdoors as well as watching baseball and wrestling. 

He married Shirley Jean Lagers and she preceded him in death on Oct. 05, 2011. He is also preceded in death by his father Harold Smith and a grand-daughter Tara Copeland. He is survived by his mother Opal Smith. Four children, Tina and husband Jon Smith, Tracy Smith and wife Kandi, Tony Smith and wife Rachelle and Travis Smith and wife Cindy; a sister, Mae Neece and husband Wayne. Twenty grandchildren. 

Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandsons; Todd Copeland, Tim Copeland, Nathan Smith, Garrett Smith, Trey Smith and Grant Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gabe Smith, Gannon Smith, Dakota Copeland, Greg Fowler, Trent Smith and Cody Eurit.

Minnie Roark

Minnie M. (Nutting) Roark, 87, Seneca, MO, passed into eternal rest at 2:36 am, March 27, 2015 at the Seneca House Nursing Home after an illness. 

Minnie M. Nutting was born January 2, 1928 in rural Wyandotte the daughter of Orval and Alvena (Crowley) Nutting. Minnie was a lifelong resident of Seneca. She formerly worked in the local cafes and worked many years as a cook for the Seneca R7 School District. She was a member of the Swars Prairie Baptist Church south of Seneca. Minnie will be remembered for her homemade cinnamon rolls and all the good food she prepared over the years. She loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her children.

Minnie M. Nutting married Carl B. Roark November 12, 1944 at Sycamore Chapel United Methodist Church in Wyandotte and he preceded her in death September 7, 2013. 

Survivors include four children; Janie Steele and husband Lonnie, Linda Holt and husband Tom, Joan Parmley and husband Bill, Don Roark and wife Glenda all of Seneca; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild and one step great-grandchild.

Minnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville D. (Junior) Nutting and Kenneth Nutting and two sisters, Ramona McCorkell and Imogene East.

Funeral services under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Swars Prairie Baptist Church south of Seneca, with Pastor John Crowley officiating. Burial will be in the Seneca Cemetery with Don Roark, Janie Steele, Michael Steele, Todd Holt, Michelle Dardenne and Sam Roark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 pm, Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca.

Don Keeney

 Donald Eugene Keeney, age 83, of Lamar, passed away Wednesday evening, March 18, 2015 at his home with his family at his side.

     Don was born January 21, 1932, at Weyauwega, Wisconsin to Clyde and Frieda (Bauer) Keeney.  After graduating from Manawa High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, earning the Korean Service Medal with three bronze campaign stars for his overseas service. It was while he was stationed at Camp Crowder that he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Hill and they were married February 6, 1954 at Webb City, Missouri.  As a newly married couple, Don and Mary moved to Wisconsin to care for Don’s mother and Don worked for the Waupaca Highway Department for 20 years.  They returned to Missouri where Don worked in the maintenance department of MSSU in Joplin before completing his work career with Compton Farms in Barton County.  An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life.

     Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary, of the home; two sons, Michael (Cory) Keeney, Appleton, Wisconsin and Keith Keeney of the home; two daughters, Lorrie (Lee) Shuey, Lamar and Jean Marie (Troy) Yeager, Neosho, Missouri; a sister, Mona Zempel, Olympia, Washington; nine grandchildren, Kimberly, Phillip, Melisa, Michelle, Shawn, Justin, Jeffery, Troy II, and Nicholas; and nine great-grandchildren.

     A memorial service, including full military honors, was held at Daniel Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Oakton, Missouri.

     Memorial contributions are suggested to the Keeney family in care of Mary Keeney.

Willie Ison

Willard Lee Ison, age 63, of Lamar, MO died Monday, March 16, 2015 at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, MO.

Willie was born July 26, 1951 to Willard E. and Lavona (Bishop) Ison. He graduated Liberal High School 1969. On August 14, 1990 he married Diann (Stebler) Gardner. Willie was a farmer and had also worked for O’Sullivan Industries, Thorco Industries and as a part time carpenter. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter with both a bow and gun and was very involved in garden tractor pulling with his brothers-in-law.

Willie leaves behind his wife Diann of the home, two sons, David and wife Chris Ison, of Yonkers, NY and Dustin and wife Drenda Gardner, of Carthage, MO; one daughter, Shana Ison of Lamar; a sister, Teresa and husband Dale White of Frontenac, KS; seven grandchildren, Lexi, Courtney, Carter, Drayton, & Kyler Ison, Delayna and Darrah Gardner. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and a son, Landon Ison.

Graveside service were held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Iantha Cemetery.

Elbert A. “Pete” Randall, 83, Carthage, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home. Elbert Alan Randall was born September 26, 1931 in Columbus, KS; a son of the late Homer E. Randall and Ruth Yonker. Pete married Marjorie “Margie” Dodson on March 10, 1951 in Bentonville, AR; she survives.

He and his wife owned and operated Randall’s Market and The Korner Drive In Restaurant in 1961 in Carthage, MO. After selling the business in the late 70’s, he then went into the Real Estate business for over 20 years.

Survivors include his wife Margie; one son; David Randall, Carthage, MO; one daughter, Connie Randall, Joplin, MO; three sisters, Frances Fox, Miami, OK, Janie Gatenby, Olan, TX, Mary Powers, Miami, OK; two brothers, Herb Randall, Las Vegas, NV, Elmer Randall, Miami, OK; six grandchildren. Cassidi Pereira(husband, George) , Todd Greene (wife, Claudia), Kyle Babbitt (wife, Nancy) D.J. Randall, Maranda Huntley (husband, Ryan), Abi Randall. Seven great grandchildren, Jozlon Randall, Katlyn Huntley, Hailey Pereira, Dylan Huntley, Grady Huntley, Nicholas Pereira, Mariana Greene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Norma Rohmiller, and one brother; George Randall.

Pete Tiller

Emerald Leroy “Pete” Tiller, 91, Carthage, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 surrounded by his family.  Pete was born July 30, 1923 in Jasper County, MO; the son of the late Roy Tiller and Faye Bruffett Tiller.  Pete was a graduate of Jasper High School, Class of 1940.  He married Betty Louise Danner on August 20, 1944 in Pittsburg, Kansas. Pete and Betty owned and operated Tiller Construction, the Jasper Lumber Co. and he was appointed by Governor Mel Carnahan as the fee agent for the Carthage License Bureau for twelve years.  He was a member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene and the Jasper County Democrat Club. 

Survivors include three daughters; Bonnie (George) Earl, Carthage, Janet (Tim) Atnip, Jasper and Debbie (Steve) Hensley, Carthage. He loved his six grandchildren; Hallie Earl (Paul) Young, Jeremy (Jaime) Atnip, Brad (Sarah) Atnip, Adam (Allison) Atnip, Dustin Hensley, and Amanda Hensley (Brad) Fosdick. His ten great grandchildren were a joy; Kylen Young, Dalton Young, Larissa Atnip, Hadley Atnip, Clayton Atnip, Natalie Grant, Addison Atnip, Garrett Atnip, Baylor Leroy Hensley, and Macy Fosdick.

He dearly loved his caregiver Leslie Kincaid and her husband Rob Kincaid. His family is so grateful for their love and care so he could stay in his own home.

Funeral services were held at Thursday, March 26 at the Grand Avenue Church of God. Susie Woolever

Susie Woolever age 87 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Wednesday March 11, 2014.

She was born May 30, 1927 in Springfield, Missouri to John and Maggie (Horton) Fisher.

Susie lived in the Joplin area for over 50 years. She worked as a bartender at several establishments in Joplin.

She is survived by a niece, Joann Roberts, Millsboro, Delaware and numerous friends who will miss her greatly.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday March 23, 2015 at the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.

Burial will follow at a later date at Fairview Cemetery.

Leroy Wilson

Lewis “Leroy” Wilson, age 87, of Jasper, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Freeman West in Joplin. 

He was born February 24, 1928 near Carl Junction to the late Raymond and Golda Whisner Wilson. Leroy attended the Brick School during his elementary years and was a 1945 graduate of Carl Junction. Following graduation, he served his country in the United State Coast Guard from March 15, 1946 until 1948 in Alameda, California. Leroy then received his Business Degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College in December of 1952. 

While in the service, he married Florene Fugitt, June 2, 1946. She preceded him in death February 9, 1996. He later married Joan McCune February 14, 2001 and she survives of the home. Leroy was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church and recently attended New Providence Baptist Church with Joan. Leroy had worked for E&W Construction, AY McDonald, Ready Made Buildings and was the Executive Director of the Ozark Area Girl Scout Council from 1965 – 1990. After retirement from the Council he drove a bus for the State School for the Handicapped. He served as a Captain and treasurer of the Missouri Governor’s Mounted Guard where he received his nickname, “Tree Top”. Leroy also served several terms as a member of the Carl Junction School Board and treasurer for 20 years. Leroy was a member of the Joplin Rotary Club and Joplin American Legion. He was very involved in the construction and development of the 160 acres of Girl Scout Camp Mintahama. Leroy’s greatest joy was driving the Girl Scout bus to destinations all over the US, being a security guard for the canoers and campers. In later years he and Joan enjoyed attending many of Molly and Caleb’s sporting and 4-H events. 

Leroy is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Vicki Cassady and husband Calvin of Carl Junction and Rayma Dover and husband Norman of Carl Junction; granddaughters, Vanessa Polozola and husband Stephen of Mansfield, TX, Rebecca DePriest and husband Brett of Seneca, Sarah Cassady and fiancé, Jason Brunner of Fayettville, AR, Valarie King and husband Tyler of Rolla, MO; grandson, Kristoffer Dover and wife Emilie of Lawrence, KS; step daughter, Suzanne Russell and husband Mark of Jasper; step granddaughter, Molly Russell and step grandson, Caleb Russell and wife Kelsey; and great grandchildren, Calvin, Wilson, Bella, Lola, Mia and Tatum. 

Memorial Services will be 2:30 Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the St. Philips Episcopal Church with Father Frank Sierra and Rev. Larry Shumaker officiating. Military rites will follow in the church courtyard .

Charles Borchardt

Charles Gene Borchardt, age 74, Neosho, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.

Charles was born March 20, 1942 in Wausau, Wisconsin to the late Harry Borchardt and Ruth McCollen Borchardt and had lived in Neosho over 20 years moving from Georgia.

He was a veteran and retired from the United States Army, serving as a combat engineer. Following his retirement, he worked at Talbot Wire, Neosho, for several years.

Charles enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing whenever he got the chance.

He married Nancy Loraine on January 28, 1982 in Hinesville, Georgia. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include his son, Michael Borchardt and his wife, Jennifer, Crawfordville, Florida; a daughter, Donna Adams and her husband, Tom, Hinesville, Georgia; four grandchildren, Eli, Reiley and Brandon Borchardt, Chad Knudson and his wife, Chelsea; and a sister, Amy Glass, Illinois.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by several brothers.

A memorial service is planned for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the mortuary.

Sarah Wyrick

Sarah Belle (McMinn) Wyrick, 90, Seneca, MO passed into eternal rest at 11:48 am, March 25, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin after an illness. Sarah Belle McMinn was born July 6, 1924 in Peoria, OK the daughter of John William and Mary Belle (Brumbaugh) Wyrick. She was a graduate of Quapaw High School. Sarah lived in California from 1948-1969 then moved back to the rural Seneca Area. She was a member of the Seneca First Baptist Church. 

 
Sarah Belle McMinn married Cleo Wyrick May 25, 1950 and he preceded her in death December 30, 1981.

Survivors include one grandson Jason Wyrick and wife Jill, Springdale, AR; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Wyrick and Camrin Wyrick both of Springdale, AR; A host of nieces and nephews and extended family.

Sarah Belle was preceded in death by one son Rodney Wyrick; five brothers, Bill McMinn, Clark McMinn, Chester McMinn, Perry McMinn and Albert McMinn; two sisters, Hazel Hood and Nellie McMinn Eby.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm,Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home Chapel in Seneca with Caleb Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the services.

The body has been taken for cremation.

Wilma Mae Fair, 99, Neosho, died March 24, 2015 at Spring River Christian Village, Joplin, following a lengthy illness. 

Wilma was born February 29, 1916 in Duenweg, Missouri , the daughter of Arthur C. and Mettie (Hodges) Brock. She was a lifelong area resident and was a homemaker. She was a former member of ABWA, Neosho Area Widow to Widow and was an avid Cardinal’s Fan. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. Wilma married Wendell Douthitt in September, 1936 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1964. She is survived by two children, Wayne Douthitt and wife, Vera and Mary Sue Harris and husband, Windel ‘Red’, all of Neosho; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a great great grandson, one brother and one sister.

Larry Frack

Larry D. Frack, age 81, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 24 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. 

Larry was born May 20, 1933 in Macksville, Ks., the son of Ray and Edna Suiter Frack. Larry was a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Larry enjoyed a 50 year career in engineering. He worked for 25 years with the Newhall Land and Farming Co. in Newhall, California. He was involved in the master plan development of the city of Valencia, Ca. He also was Vice President of Operations and New Construction that developed Magic Mountain Amusement Park, and the development of the first loop roller coaster. For the next 20 years he was the Vice President of Operations and Facilities for Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, where he developed Camp Snoopy. He took that theme of Camp Snoopy and developed a 7 acre indoor amusement park inside the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He moved to Webb City in 1998 following his retirement. He served there as a member of the Webb City Park Board. Larry served his country in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was a member of the Christian Church in Macksville, Kansas, and served as an Elder with the Newhall Christian Church for 40 years, and attended Calvary Chapel in Joplin.

Larry married Elaine Hudson July 12, 1953 in Macksville, Kansas and she survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Frack, and a brother, Maxson Frack. Additonal survivors include a son, Dr. Dale Frack and wife Carrie, Carl Junction, Mo., a daughter, Jana Cummings and husband Rodney, Newhall, Ca., a daughter in law, Margaret Frack, Newhall, Ca., a brother, Stephen Frack and wife Toni, Roseburg, Or., eight grandchildren; Joshua Cummings, Alyssa Haag and husband Ryan, Nicole Frack Warne and husband Blaise, Casey Frack, Carly Frack, Ethan Frack, Emma Frack, and Seth Frack, and two great grandchildren, Surreal Warne, and Addison Haag, and one on the way.

Memorial services will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Ron Wright and family members officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 4th. with Military Honors at the Farmington Cemetery in Macksville, Ks. Edith Berryhill

Edith A. Berryhill age 92 of Jasper, MO passed away March 25, 2015 at Joplin Health and Rehab.

She was born April 14, 1922 in Goodman, Missouri to Sam and Jean (Clark) Shelton. Edith was a homemaker and attended Bethel Church. 

Edith was united in marriage to Clarence Swaim. He preceded her in death in 1961 She was then united in marriage to Lloyd Berryhill on July 5, 1963. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Bruce Swaim Sr. of Miami, Oklahoma. and Olen Swaim of Aurora, MO.. A sister-in-law, Reba Ball and a brother-in-law, Loyal Berryhill and wife Velma. Ten grandchildren, Fifteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Cecil Shelton, Two sisters, Lily and Mary Call. Two daughters, Donilda Kemper and Barbara Sue Swaim. Grandson, Mark Phillip Enders. One sister-in-law, Velta Ball and three brothers-in-law, Roy Berryhill, Charles Ball, and Walter Ball. 

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, MO.. The family will receive friends Friday, March 27, 2015 from 7:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, MO.. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery.

Betty Kent

On March 23, 2015, at the age of 79, Betty Jean (Hearon) Kent was called home by our Lord and received her angel wings.

Betty was born May 15, 1935 in Bradley, Oklahoma to B.C. (Boots) and Katie May (Dunn) Hearon. Betty was raised in Oklahoma but her family lived in the Phoenix, Arizona area during late 1943-1944. The family moved back to the Bradley, Oklahoma area in 1944 after the loss of Betty’s Mom, Katie. She married the love of her life, Dale Kent, in Las Vegas, Nevada before moving to Los Angeles, California where they lived until her retirement from Fansteel. They then moved to Joplin, Missouri to care for Dale’s sister, Juanita.

Betty loved her family, traveling every summer from California to Oklahoma to spend time with her Dad and her siblings. Her family always looked forward to those visits, especially her niece, Teresa. The visits continued after she moved to Joplin until her health made it impossible for her, as much as she loved her family, Betty always felt that her greatest accomplishment in life were her children and grandchildren.

Betty was a very caring, loving woman. She was also one of the strongest women that her family has ever known. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Bingo and going to the casinos.

Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life, Dale, daughter, Beverly, both of her parents, Buford and Katie Hearon. And brothers/sisters, Brothers: Charles (Charley)Hearon J.B. Hearon Edward Hearon B.C. (Junior) Hearon Bill Hearon Sisters: Josie (Hearon) DaVoult Dean (Hearon) Thomason

Betty is survived and will be greatly missed by her son, Bill & wife Patty Kent of Norman, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Lisa & husband Allen Ogden of Joplin, Missouri; grandsons, Aaron Kent and Chris Kent of Norman, Oklahoma; her brother, Bobby and wife Lou of Bradley, Oklahoma; great-granddaughter, Jordan Ogden, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty will also be missed by the people she “adopted” as her family: her caregivers, Larry and Brenda Ogden, and her “adopted” grandchildren, Belinda James and Candace Doke.

Services are planned for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Nadine Bates

Mary "Nadine" Bates, age 77 of Neosho, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 at her home following an extended illness.

Nadine was born May 10, 1937 to the late Riley Shephard and Mary Klopenstine in Joplin. She has lived in the Joplin area most of her life.

Nadine was a bookkeeper for different trucking companies in the area but worked for Monkem Trucking the longest. She thoroughly enjoyed her church and her faith was a major part of her life. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Neosho.

Nadine married Lee Dane Bates in 1977 in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1997. Also preceding her in death are one brother, Riley Shephard; sisters, Maxine Bayliff, Lucy Jean White, Madelene Scott, Joy Brownell and Josephine Shephard.

Those surviving Nadine are a son, Gary and his wife LaShall Bates of West Fork, Arkansas; sister, Inalee Johnson of Salt Lick, Kentucky; in-laws, James and Beulah Bates of Joplin; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Services for Nadine will be held Thursday, March 26 at 10:00 A.M. at Parker Mortuary. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 P.M. at the mortuary.

Maxine Sullivan

Maxine C. Sullivan, 101 years old, formerly of Joplin, passed away on March 22, 2015 at Olathe, KS.

Maxine was born June 27, 1913, at Ridgely, MO, to C.C. & Anna Stamps. Maxine was raised in Cushing, OK, where her father worked for the Shell Oil & Gas Refinery. She graduated from Fairland High School in 1929 as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Oklahoma University.

Maxine married V.H. (Sully) Sullivan on January 24, 1934, in Muskogee, OK. They lived in Miami, OK from 1936 until 1950 when they moved to Joplin, where she made her home for over 45 years. Maxine worked and managed the General Employment Service of Joplin for 42 years. She retired and moved to Olathe to be close to her family. Maxine was preceded in death by husband, V.H. and her parents. She is survived by her son, Jim D. Sullivan and daughter-in-law Rosalie; two grandsons, James and Michael; and one great-grandson, Sean.

There will be a graveside service at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial gift may be made to your favorite charity.

Ernestine Carr

Ernestine J. Thomas Carr, age 90 of Joplin, passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Born March 13, 1925 in the Spurgeon Community south of Joplin, she was a lifelong area resident. She was a daughter of the late Charley and Hattie Waldon Thomas. A housekeeper in her early life, in 1966 she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in surgery at Freeman Hospital for over 25 years. A 70-year member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher for 47 years, a choir member for 50 years and served as Youth Director and on the Missions Board for 20 years. Since 2002 she also belonged to Church Women United. A member of N.A.A.C.P, she also served on the Community Center Board.

Survivors include her four children, Linda Hackner and husband Charles of Houston, TX, David Thomas and wife Betty of Joplin, Keith Carr of Joplin, Eric Carr and wife Cynthia of Rochester Hills, MI; one sister, Charlene Calhoun of Joplin; six grandchildren, Jason Hackner, Troy and Tracey Thomas, Keisha Mason, Kellen Carr and Jordan Burton; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Ralph Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronald Bonner, Joseph Williams, Glen Caldwell, Eric Colbert, William Kean and Kevin Calhoun. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Ruth Earl

Ruth Earl, age 86 of Golden City, Missouri went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 22, 2015. 

Ruth was born on June 13, 1928 in Dade County, Alabama. Ruth was a pastor to all the people that she came in contact with and was very advantageous about sharing and living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people and she was never afraid of doing that. Ruth was a student and a teacher of the Bible for over 66 years. She was very active in the community as she involved herself in feeding the poor, caring for those on the streets, and helping those who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. For several years Ruth was a pastor along with her husband, Gregory, at the Golden City Mission of Encouragement. Ruth's hope as with all Christians is to enter the heavenly realms and hear our Savior say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." 

Surviving Ruth are her husband, Gregory of the home, three daughters, Lilly Burton, Jeri Burton, Reneida Phillips and a son Roy Morgon. Preceding her in death are her parents and a son Carl Burton.

Visitation is 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Mission of Encouragement, 505 Mill Street, Golden City. Services will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Mission of Encouragement.

Connie Shaver

Connie Mechele Shaver age 50 years old passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 in her home. 

Connie was born on June 14, 1964 in Greenville, South Carolina to Bill and Betty (Munson) Brookshire. Connie lived in the Kansas City area for several years before moving to Lamar, Missouri where she met her husband Joe Shaver. Connie and Joe were married on March 25, 2009. Connie was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her husband and her family. Connie and Joe enjoyed their adventures as they rode their motorcycles to various places. 

Preceding her in death are her parents. Surviving Connie are her husband, Joe Shaver of the home, one brother, and three sisters, her three daughters, Thomesa Thomas, Rheanna Allen, Lilly Allen, and two grandchildren Kristriana Thomas, and Alyson Sheetz.

Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home, 1301 Gulf, Lamar.

Donna Fullerton

Donna C. (Fitzgerald) Fullerton, 74, Granby, passed away on March 20, 2015.

She was born May 17, 1940 in Granby, Missouri, the daughter of the late Shelby and Freda (Nunn) Fitzgerald. Over a period of 40 years she served her hometown as mayor, city collector, city clerk, alderman, city manager and was the “2013 Honored Citizen”. Donna had owned and operated several businesses, the latest being the Granby Flea Market. She and partner, Ron Vandergriff, had the market for the past 20 years. Of the many things she loved: family; friends; fishing; flowers and plants; bird feeding and watching; and drives in the country, she loved her hometown the most. “Old Mining Town Days” was her favorite time. 

Throughout her adult life she worked tirelessly to promote the advancement of her favorite place, Granby, Missouri. Donna cared about her town, it’s future and it’s past. She is survived by one son, Gerald “Jr.” Fullerton of Granby; one brother, Max Fitzgerald and wife, Kathy of Bethel Heigthts, Arkansas; one sister, Lana Deadmond of Branson; one sister-in-law, Marti Fitzgerald of Branson; one aunt, Sybil Grillo of Port Washington, New York; one uncle, Herbert Nunn of Houston, Texas; three nephews; two great nephews and longtime companion, partner and friend, Ron Vandergriff. She was born February 3, 1931 in Ballard, Missouri, the daughter of Claude and Annie Hannah. Mary recently moved to this area from Harrisonville, Missouri. She had been the owner-operator of a restaurant. 

Mary married Robert Livingston and he preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Jesperson, Joplin; a brother, Donald Hannah, Clinton; two sisters, Helen Earl, Harrisonville, and Betty Gillis, Adrian; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mary is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Kerry Miller and Jerry Messer; a brother, Russell Hannah and a sister, Shirley James.

Olivia Combs

Catherine “Olivia” Combs passed away peacefully at home surrounded by all of her children on March 23, 2015, twenty days after her 86th birthday.

Olivia was born on March 3, 1929, in Springfield Missouri, to Allen and Delpha Cagle. She met her husband Loyd L. Combs of Bolivar, MO, while serving as the organist at the wedding ceremony for Loyd’s brother, Joe, and his wife Ada. They were married on December 23, 1948 and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past December. After their marriage, Loyd and Olivia moved first to Columbia, MO, then Iberia, and then Jefferson City before moving to Joplin in 1953. During this time she held secretarial positions with the Missouri State Teachers Association, Missouri Farm Bureau, and the Veterans Program in Agriculture.

Olivia and Loyd have made their home in Joplin for the last 62 years, during which Olivia raised four children, taught piano, managed Oakland Hardware Store, which she owned with Loyd, and later served as office manager and agent for New York Life Insurance in Joplin. She retired in 1990.

Olivia attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield and later Missouri Southern State College, majoring in music at both schools. She was an accomplished musician: an organist, pianist, vocalist, choir director, and bell choir member. Over the years, she served as an organist and choir director at Faith Assembly of God Church in Joplin, as an organist and children’s choir director at First Community Church in Joplin, and periodically served as organist in numerous other Joplin churches. She played for weddings and funerals upon request and her talent was well known and highly regarded. Olivia was a member of the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, and for more than twenty-five years, was a member of the Choral Society at Missouri Southern State College.

Olivia is survived by her husband Loyd; by their four children: Joanna (Jim) Adams of Grand Junction, Colorado, Terri Combs (Tom Swartwood) of Des Moines, Iowa, Ron (Rosemary) Combs of Joplin, and Tracy (George) Cisco of Kansas City. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jamie Combs, Jessica Adams, Justin Adams, Ryan Combs, Kaitlin Swartwood, and Atticus Swartwood, and five great-grandchildren: Haven, Ebbon, Tredyn, Deakin, and Kody.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, by two brothers, Vernon and Troy Cagle, and by her nephew Robbie.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodward Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Joplin with the Rev. Wm. Brock Watson and the Rev. Bruce Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Compassus or First United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Compassus, the Transitional Care Unit of Freeman Hospital, and our many friends and family members who supported and cared so lovingly for Mom. We may have lost Mom’s physical presence but her spirit, love and compassion will live on in our memories forever.

Mary Lou Bower

Mary Lou Bower, age 71, Joplin, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at her home.

Mary Lou was born January 17, 1944 in Imperial, Nebraska, daughter of the late Edward and Louise Bussell. She attended school in Nebraska, and then Barnes School of Business in Denver, Colorado where she learned her accounting skills. She was a partner and officer with Mid-America Accounts Control Bureau in Joplin, working with her husband. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and enjoyed taking care of her family.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Bower, and sister, Evelyn Norman.

Survivors include her husband, Doug, whom she married on February 24, 1963 in Imperial, Nebraska; sons, Thomas Bower of Diamond, Missouri, Douglas Bower and DeAnn Brock of Joplin; Michael Bower and wife Sherri of Joplin, and Matthew Bower and wife Nicole of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Eric Bower, Luke Bower, Jarrett Bower, Ethan Ritchell, Brayden Bower, and Ella Bower; sister, Emma Jane Haddorf of Fort Collins, Colorado, and a brother in Nebraska; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan.

Cremation will follow by Parker Mortuary.

Kay Henry

Brenda Kay Henry, age 63, Carl Junction, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kay was born July 14, 1951 in Bedford, Indiana, daughter of the late Robert Magner and Margaret Strange Magner. She graduated from Madison Grant High School in Fairmount, Indiana, and moved to Joplin where she attended Ozark Christian College from 1970 - 1974. She also earned an associate's degree in business management from Labette Community College, Parsons, Kansas following OCC. It was during that time she met Jerry D. Henry, and they were married August 11, 1973. She has worked for Bagcraft in Baxter Springs, Kansas since 1980, most recently working in the office. She was also a member of College Heights Christian Church. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends that included her family at Bagcraft. She was loved by all who knew her and will be known for her radiant smile.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jerry Henry; son, Shane Henry and Christina of Joplin; brother, Jeff Magner and Jan of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Julia Ann Blosser and Tim of Marion, Indiana, Connie Carmack and Wayne of Converse, Indiana; grandson, Robert Zane Henry; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Michael P. Dean, age 32, Joplin, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015 in Joplin

Michael was born August 27, 1982 in Wichita, Kansas, and attended Joplin Schools. He was a computer wiz, and was a SEO writer, and did some online marketing with AT&T. Family was extremely important to Michael, especially family gatherings where he was always the life of the party. Interacting with his family was his greatest joy. He also loved to be outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, repelling, or anything else that he could do that was exciting.

Survivors include his parents, Robert Michael "Mike" Dean and Iva Susan Millender Dean of Oronogo, Missouri; his wife, Chenoa, of the home; children, Logan Breck Dean, Brendan Michach Dean, Emmalee Nicole Tilford; step-children, Ayla Marie and Phoenix Blake Michael; his siblings: sister, Danyel Renee Warne and husband Brian, sister, Jobi Lynn George, brother, Kenneth Allen Philpott and wife Priscilla, sister, Susan Marie Edge and husband Josh, brother, John Patrick Dean; three nephews, 11 nieces, 2 great-nephews, and 1 1/2 great nieces.

Memorial services will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Pathways United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Miller officiating.

Cecil Clayton

Cecil Clayton, age 74, of Purdy, MO and Cassville, MO, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in Bonne Terre, MO. Mr. Clayton was born in Purdy, MO on Tuesday, April 16, 1940. He was the son of Lloyd and Rosie (Childress) Clayton. Mr. Clayton was married to Connie Day and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2008. He was a retired, well-known logger.

Surviving are the following: two sons, Darren Clayton of Pierce City, MO and Steven Clayton of Purdy, MO; two daughters, Cecilia Fenton of Pierce City, MO and Jena Clayton of Pierce City, MO; four sisters, Marcine Schockley of Lawrence, KS, Linda Day of Corinth, MS, Janie Spearman of Corinth, MS, and Carolyn Dorsey of Corinth, MS; three brothers, Wayne Clayton of Purdy, MO, Marvin Clayton of Purdy, MO, Jerry Clayton of Pensacola, FL; one half-brother, J.D. Johnson of Joplin, MO; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Clayton was preceded in death by one son, Jonathan Clayton, on February 16, 2008 and his sister, Ruby Holland in 2015.

Private graveside services will be held in Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter, MO on Monday, March 23, 2015, beginning at 10:30 A.M. with Brother Russell Bishop officiating. Mr Clayton was cremated at his request.

Bob Riggs

Robert E. (Bob) Riggs, age 68 of Webb City, passed away at 4:35 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Webb City Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born June 26, 1946 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Mary Lou Hyso Riggs and lived in the Joplin and Webb City areas his entire lifetime. A 1964 graduate of Joplin High School, he retired in 2012 as a generator technician for Cummins Central Power with over 20 years of service. He formerly owned and operated a boat sales and repair business, served as Fire Chief in Carterville and as Scoutmaster of Troop 25 in Webb City. Bob was devoted to his church and his family. He loved going to Grand Lake, fishing and model trains.

On July 22, 1967, he married Helen E. O’Connell. She survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Mary Sanders and husband Chris of Webb City; a son, Robbie Riggs of Joplin; two granddaughters, Cassie and Katrina DeGonia; a brother, David Riggs and wife Peggy of Springfield, MO.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at Parker Chapel with Pastor Gary Balfour officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Betty St. Clair

Betty Jean St. Clair, age 86, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 2:56 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, surrounded by her family. Betty was born December 5, 1928 in Etna, Mo. She returned to Webb City in 1985 when her husband became the Minister of First Christian Church of Webb City. She was employed as a Secretary to the Registrar of Ozark Christian College and retired as the Receptionist for the College. She assisted her husband in ministries in Mo. and Indiana. While in Indiana she was employed as Secretary to the Head of Anesthesiology at Indiana University Medical Center. Betty was a member of First Christian Church of Webb City and had recently been attending College Heights Christian Church of Joplin. Betty lived a life that taught us all how to love people who really needed love. Because of Jesus, that is her greatest legacy. She has really changed the world. Well done Mom !

Betty married Calvin W. St. Clair February 26, 1950 in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Calvin Jr., and Rodney Wayne, her parents, Ralph and Velva Welbourne, two brothers, Robert and John Dye, and two sisters, Helen Overfield, and Dorothy Dye. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Latkowski and husband David, Greenwood, In., four sons, Jeff St. Clair and wife Julie, Neosho, Mo., Jay St. Clair and wife Julie, Joplin, John St. Clair and wife Melony, Racine, Mo., and Andrew Moore, Eldon, Mo.22 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one on the way.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the College Heights Christian Church Chapel with her children officiating. Burial will follow at the Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Mike Geisert and Stan Parkison, Ministers, officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary. Frances Smith

Frances V. Smith age 81 of Joplin, MO passed away Wednesday March 11, 2015 at the Joplin Health and Rehabilitation. 

She was born on October 12, 1933 in Crockett, TX the daughter of Delbert and Clara Daisy “Mills” Minter. Frances was a housewife raising her children. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, and played the accordion for a gospel group called the Brothers and Sisters. Frances was loved and will be missed by many. 

Frances was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two daughters: LeAnn Blankenship and husband Steve of Joplin and Penny Smith of Joplin, MO; a brother Billy Ray Minter of Crockett, TX; two sisters: Ester Sue Due and husband Grady of Pearland, TX and Betty Bloom of Alamogordo, NM; three grandchildren: Crystal, Ryan and Sammy Joe; and a great grandchildren Gabe. 

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Saturday March 28, 2015 at the Cunningham Park 26th and Maiden Lane, Joplin, MO. A memorial service will be held at a later date In Crockett, TX.

Bobbie Joe Mingo

Bobbie Joe Mingo, age 62, Joplin, passed away at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, after an illness.

Bobbie was born February 9, 1953 in Denver, Colorado and had lived in Joplin most of his life.

He attended Joplin schools and graduated from the former Memorial High School, where he excelled in several sports, including football; basketball and track. He went on to play football at Missouri Southern State College and received his degree in Sociology.

Bobbie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a medic and was the top athletic recruit in his class at Fort Leonard Wood.

He worked for several companies, including Kansas City Southern and Pacific Railroad. He retired due to ill health.

Bobbie loved his family-he loved kids. No one was ever a stranger. He lived in several different places, but always came back home to Joplin, Missouri.

He married Cynthia Lankford in March of 1999. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Robert Anderson, Oroville, California, Gabe Sharp, Joplin; a daughter, Tiffany McCarter, Oroville, California; his father, Theodore R. Johnson, Joplin; three brothers, Larry Johnson and his wife, Mary, Joplin, Teddy Johnson and his wife, Barbara, Joplin, Gary ‘Cat’ Johnson and his wife, Wendy, Joplin; four grandchildren and several extended family members.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his mother, Elle Ree Johnson; and numerous nieces; nephews and grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Byers Avenue United Methodist Church. Rev. George Triplett and Rev. Willie Rogers, Jr. will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

The family would like to thank everyone for the many prayers received the last few months of his sickness. They would also like everyone to know that they will be eating lunch at the Golden Corral following the services.

Lovern Ellis

Lovern F. Ellis, age 72, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Wednesday March 18, 2015, following a short illness. 

Lovern was born on June 21, 1942, the son of the late Stanley and Belva (Johnson) Ellis. He has been a lifetime area resident. He married Jane LeRoy on January 17, 1964 in Carterville, Mo., together they raised two children. He graduated from MSSU with a degree in accounting. He worked for Aero Body Company and then Farmer Chemical Company. He developed a geometric figure and method for computing inventory of fertilizer that they still use today. After working in private accounting at the Webb Corporation for five years he joined the firm of Myers, Scarborough and Baker. Five years later he joined Tamko where he worked for thirty-four years where he served on the Board of Directors as the treasurer. He served as past president of the National Association of Accountants. He served as the treasurer for the Joplin Family Y for six years. He was also the treasurer of the Tri-State Boy Scouts. He was the City Clerk for the City of Carterville for five years. Lovern was a past Deacon of the Church of Christ. After retiring from Tamko he began selling real estate for Keller Williams Realty. 

Lovern is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Jane Ellis, Joplin; one son Kenneth Ellis and wife Cindi, Phoenix, Az.; one daughter, Mary Reynolds and husband Richard, Joplin; one brother, Johnny Wells and wife Sandy, Carterville, Mo.; three sisters, Phyllis Comeau and husband Jack, Carthage, Mo., Rosetta Hales, Carthage, Mo., and Linda Neil, of the state of California; four grandchildren, Russell Reynolds and wife Erica, Garrick Reynolds, Kolby Ellis, and Kendra Ellis; with one great-grandchild on the way; a very close cousin, Carol Scribner and husband Darrell, Diamond, Mo., and life-long friends Raymond and Kathy Vann, Carl Junction, Mo. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Smith.

Bill Godfrey

William M. Godfrey, Jr., 81, Carthage, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO.  William Mager Godfrey, Jr. was born June 13, 1933 in Woodbury, NJ; a son of the late William M. Godfrey, Sr. and Evelyn Rogers Godfrey.  Bill was a graduate of Collingswood High School, Collingswood, NJ.  Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.  He attended the First Baptist Church, Neosho, MO and the Nazarene Church of Carthage.  He owned and operated Bill Godfrey’s Construction Co., Seneca, MO.  Bill married Peggy Vickery on August 29, 1959; she preceded him in death on July 25, 2001.

Survivors include two sons; Mike (Sandi) Godfrey, Carthage and Ray (Carla) Godfrey, Ozark, MO; two brothers, Richard (Sandy) Godfrey, Baltimore, MD and John (Sharry) Godfrey, Carl Junction, MO; five grandchildren, Grant, Emily, Clint, Lacey and Kali Godfrey.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 – 6:00 PM, Thursday, March 19 at the Carthage Nazarene Church.  A memorial service will follow at 6:15 PM at the church.  Inurnment will be held in Hornet Cemetery, Hornet, MO at a later date. Ron Aman

Ronald Lee Aman, age 70 of Lamar, Missouri died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.

Ron was the only child of Leland Wesley and Ursula (Webels) Aman, born, August 6, 1944 at Jersey City, NJ. He graduated Lamar High School 1962 and went on to receive a degree in Water/Waste Water Management where he had worked in Nevada, Missouri, Odessa, Missouri and Blytheville, Arkansas. Ron loved to camp and fish, especially at Roaring River State Park. He also enjoyed tying flies for his fishing adventures.

Ron leaves behind his beloved companion of 34 years, Beverly Lara of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be 3:00 pm Thursday, March 19, 2013 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar, Missouri.

Robert Edman

Robert E. Edman, Jr., age 54 of Kirkwood, Mo., passed away late Friday, March 13, 2015, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. following a long battle with cancer. 

Robert was born on April 6, 1960 in Detroit, Mi., the son of Robert, Sr. and Carolyn (Stieler) Edman. He was a long time area resident before moving to Kirkwood three years ago. Robert worked in internet sales for Frank-Leta Acura in St. Louis before his illness forced him to retire. He is survived by one son, Ethan Edman of Bentonville, Ar.; one daughter, Elise Edman-Kile and her husband Mike of Kirkwood; his mother, Carolyn; and one sister, Beth Frawley of Lancaster, Ma. Robert was preceded in death by his father. 

Robert is to be cremated with a memorial service scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation following the service.

Chuck Lovejoy

Ralph Charles (Chuck) Lovejoy, 76 passed away March 16, 2015 at St. Luke's Nursing Home, Carthage. 

Chuck was born May 3, 1938 in Hayward, Wisconsin to Albert and Josephine (Clark) Lovejoy, They were both killed in a truck train accident December 1949. Chuck worked as a mechanic at Dan Stanley Ford and retired from Sears as a mechanic in 1992 after 25 years, he also worked at Four State Auto Supply in parts sales. He was a member of Christs Church of Perseverance. Chuck lived the 1st 6 years in Hayward, then moved to Iowa until he was 17 then moved to the area in 1964. 

Chuck was united in marriage to Wilda Lewis August 8, 1965 in Miller, MO, she survives; he is survived by two sisters Mary Lou Lindaman (John), and Betty Jo Wilson (Randy), a sister in law Dorothy Lovejoy, several nieces and nephews. Chuck and Wilda had several foster children over the years. Chuck is preceded by his parents and one brother Robert Lovejoy. 

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 21, 2015 at Christs Church of Perseverance and a Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 21, 2015 at Red Oak cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday March 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Christs Church of Perseverance. Ralph Barger

Ralph Alvin Barger, age 82 of Joplin passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Ralph was born July 31, 1932 to the late Adison J. Barger and Florence Elliff Barger in Anderson, Missouri. He graduated from Webb City High School and was a lifetime resident of the Joplin area.

Ralph retired as a Business Agent for the Local Carpenters Union No. 311. He also worked as a driver for Rodeo Meat Company for several years. He was a lifetime member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 345 AF & AM. Ralph served our country in the United State Armed Forces during the Korean War and then transferred to the Army Reserves.

He is survived by a daughter, Mona Ransom of Joplin; grandchildren, Bryce Ransom and wife April of Carl Junction, April Stewart and husband Shane of Carl Junction; step grandchildren, Sherri, Tammy, Chris and Angie all of the Kansas City area; numerous great grandkids as well as many friends.

Ralph is preceded in death by a son, Tony Barger and a sister, Peggy Canoy.

A memorial service has been planned for Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Family will receive friends following the service.

Jerry Herron

Jerry Herron, age 81 of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Clarehouse in Tulsa following an extended illness.

Jerry was born May 20, 1933 to the late James Frank Herron and Hazel Messer Herron in Pitcher, Oklahoma. He was a tool and die maker for many years in the aerospace industry. Jerry also proudly served our country in the United States Navy.

On April 15, 1959, Jerry married his beautiful wife, Janet Croach in Miami, OK. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2006. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Herron.

Those who survive Jerry are a daughter, Shari Herron of Tulsa; son, Gerald Herron Jr. and wife Alycia of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter, Teresa Anderson of Annandale, VA; step-grandson, Chance of Tulsa; sisters, Sally Compton of Coalinga, CA, Jeri Corrin of Santa Rosa, CA, sister in-law, Marilyn Moore of Metropolis, IL; niece, Diana Steele and husband David of Joplin; nephew, Frankie Herron of Joplin and his sons; great niece, Jessica Persinger and husband Matthew of Neosho and their children; great nephew, David Steele and wife Lindsey of Neosho and their children; cousin, Paul Cantrell and wife Doris of Joplin; granddog, Zeevah and many other family and friends.

Graveside services are planned for Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Family will receive friends prior to service from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America in care of the mortuary.

Dolis Harvey

Dolis Winfred Chase Harvey, 94, former resident of Neosho, passed away on March 2, 2015 in Fullerton, California, where she relocated due to health. 

She spent the last years of her life living with her daughter, Patricia Triplett and her family. Dolis was born March 9, 1920 in the Erie Township of McDonald County, Missouri, the eldest child of Hezzie and Hazil Chase. Dolis was employed in retail sales and she was respected by many that she served. She will be remembered by all of those who knew her as a generous and caring person who always saw the best in people and did all she could to support that goodness. 

Dolis married Lester Donald Harvey of Anderson, Missouri in 1938 and they had two daughters, Donetta and Patricia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester and daughter, Donetta. Dolis is survived by her daughter, Patricia Triplett and four grandchildren, Donetta’s children, Julie and Cyndi and Patricia’s children, Aaron and Laura. She is also survived by one member of her parental family, Hubert Chase of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Bettye Boyd

Bettye Louise Gerhardt Boyd, age 91, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at her home with family at her side.

Bettye was born March 21, 1923 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, daughter of the late Julius William Gerhardt and Rosalia Fredrica Woeltje Gerhardt. She graduated from Cape Girardeau High School, attended Yale School of Art, and then married Robert Boyd on April 11, 1954 in Cape Girardeau. She moved to Joplin in 1968, where she helped her husband with their business, Grandpa’s, located on North Main Street in Joplin.

She was a very generous person who helped many people through the years. She was fiercely proud of her German (Bavarian and Upper Saxon) lineage, "I'm a pure blooded German", loved to play any card game, and was a competitor. Her life was dedicated to her children, grandchildren, and her children's friends, especially celebrating birthdays which were major productions in her yearly plans. She was a better wife than any man deserved, she had fresh flowers every day of the year, and fought hard to reach her 92nd birthday.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Kermit W. Gerhardt, Burton Julius Gerhardt, Reginald F. Gerhardt, William A. Gerhardt, Julius W. Gerhardt, Jr., and Sally Gerhardt Clayton.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Boyd of Joplin; children, Randolph Nelson Sykes and wife Kim of Port Orange, Florida, Ann Elizabeth Mockett-Smith and husband David Smith of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Robert Wesley Boyd and wife Cindy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Katherine Trammell and husband Dr. Vic Trammell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Derrick Ingram and wife Jackie of Houston, Texas; known as "Gom-Gom to her grandchildren, Hannah K. Boyd of Tulsa, Ann Elizabeth Smith of New Smyrna Beach, Ian S. Boyd of Tulsa, and Kevin and Kyle Ingram of Houston, Hill, Virginia, and John Trammell.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Jessica Lowe

Jessica E. Lowe, 40, of Joplin, MO passed away Sunday, March 15th, surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of Dick and Jo Ann Lowe. Truly a gift from God, Jessica was born during the year of their 20th wedding anniversary. "Red", as she was lovingly called in her early years by family, faced many adversities in her short life, but like the Prophet Paul, she "ran the race" and will forever live with Christ. As a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, she was an active volunteer with the Awana organization and Bible School Programs.

Jessica had a deep love for God, her family, and friends. To know Jessica was to know the very best of the human spirit. She will forever be loved and cherished by her family.

Jessica was preceded in death by her father Richard E. Lowe in May 2014.

She is survived by her Mother Jo Ann Lowe of Joplin, MO, Sister Dy Ann Stilley (Chuck) of Leawood, KS, Nephew Sam Stilley of Austin, TX, Nieces Lauren Stilley of San Diego, CA, Le Ann Stilley-Luce (James Luce) of Kansas City, MO, Uncles Gary Vernon (Sharon) of Joplin, MO, Ron Vernon (Pat) of Mustang, OK, Aunt Helen Lowe of Joplin, MO and many cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held at Forest Park Chapel in Joplin, MO on Wednesday, March18th at 11:00A.M.. Contributions to be made to the Forest Park Awana Fund and Kansas City Hospice House at 12000 Wornall Rd. KC,MO 64124.
