Betty Luan James 81 of Mindenmines, Missouri passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at Joplin Mercy Hospital. 

She was born October 29, 1934 in Barton County, Missouri to James Alexander and Nadine (Stith) Still. She was a homemaker and a farmer. Betty was a former 4-H leader and was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church. 

Betty was united in marriage to Ronald James on February 28, 1956. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Will James (Denise) of Mindenmines, MO.. One daughter, Donita James of Nashville, MO.. Three brothers, Jim Still, Richard Still, and Leland Still all of Carthage, MO.. Five sisters, Margaret Manley of Jasper, MO., Bonnie Wilson of Des Moines, Iowa, Maribeth Ward of Carthage, MO., Connie Barkley of Springfield, MO., and Libby Wilson of Carthage, MO.. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Matthew James. a brother Harvey Still, and two sisters, Mermal Wyatt and Nancy Still.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, MO.. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016.

Jennifer Hogan

Jennifer L. Hogan, 57, Carthage, MO went Home to be with the Lord, Monday evening, June 27, 2016 at her home after a short battle with cancer. Jennifer Lynn Wickman was born June 1, 1959 in Cincinnati, OH to Robert and Cleona (Atkins) Wickman, they survive. She was a graduate of Central Baptist Schools, Cincinnati, OH, Class of 1977. Jenny married Timothy Dean Brown on August ¬¬¬¬20, 1977 in Addyston, OH, he preceded her in death on November 10, 1998. Jenny married Gregory “Kent” Hogan on December 13, 2003, he survives. She worked as a teller at Hometown Bank, Carthage and also as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.

Additional survivors include three children; Bryan Brown, Cincinnati, OH, Laura (husband Sam) Davis, Carthage, David Brown, Carthage; three stepchildren; Jerrod (wife Melissa) Hogan, Joplin, MO, Tia (husband Steve) Wise, Edmond, OK, Rachel (husband Jon) Herring, Orlando, FL, four sisters; Karen (husband Gary) Rutherford, Cincinnati, OH, Terri (husband Rick) Iles, Cincinnati OH, Bonnie (husband Randy) Shinkle, Cincinnati, OH, Jill (husband Larry) Mobley, Guilford, IN, fifteen grandchildren; Sophia Brown, Nathan Davis, Zachary Davis, Annalise Davis, Elissa Davis, Shae Hogan, Miles Hogan, Ava Hogan, Tyler Wise, Katelyn Wise, Ethan Wise, Brooklyn Wise, Carson Herring, Hudson Herring, Harper Herring. She is also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews and eleven great nieces and nephews. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a faithful and wonderful Pastor’s wife.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Bible Baptist Church, 800 S. Baker Blvd, Carthage, MO 64836. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 1, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church. Pastor Joe Decker, Jr. of South Campbell Ave Baptist Church, Springfield, MO will officiate. Charlyn Colaw

Charlyn E. Colaw, 99, Carthage, MO, went home to be with her Lord June 27, 2016.
Charlyn was born January 18, 1917, in rural Carthage, the daughter of Frank L. Kyle and Iva Fadler Kyle. In 1933, at age 16, she was graduated from Carthage High School and later was a graduate of Draughon Business College.

She married A. Purdy Colaw March 24, 1940, in Joplin. Except for the war years, she was a lifelong Carthage resident. She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was an accomplished homemaker, known for her cooking, sewing and quilting skills. After her daughters were raised, she worked at Revival Fires Ministry in Joplin and then served as assistant city clerk in the administration of Carthage Mayor John Sheldon. Later, she was secretary of Fairview Christian Church, of which she and her husband were charter members. She served many years at the church as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Her family valued her loving and nurturing nature, her Christian faith, her wisdom and the twinkle in her eye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her sister Feryne Rinehart, her brother Kenneth Kyle, and her brother and sister-in law Kendall and Billie Colaw.

Survivors include two daughters Karen Herzog and husband Don, Carthage, and Barbara Tucker and husband Tom, Tahlequah, Oklahoma; three grandchildren Janet Tucker Kellogg (Josh) of Windsor, Colorado, Daniel Tucker (Sarah) of Hudson Oaks, Texas, and Christopher Herzog (Sarah) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her faithful caregiver Maria (Yolie) Cross.

Visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2016 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. A private inurnment will be held at Fasken Cemetery, Carthage, at a later date. Thalia Brock

Thalia M. Brock, age 71, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Sunday June 26, 2016, at Freeman West Hospital, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Thalia was born April 25, 1945 in Joplin, the daughter of the late Hiram Kimmerly and Cecil J. Brown. She has been a lifetime area resident. She graduated from Duenweg High School. Thalia was a member of Victory Faith Center. She was an avid coupon clipper.

Thalia is survived by her son Kevin L. Brock and his wife Tricia, Joplin; one brother, Jay Farris and his wife Fayenelle, Webb City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Breanna Eafrati, Preston Eafrati, Brenden Brock, and Lauren Brock; two great-grandchildren, Madison Eafrati and Morgan Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Victory Faith Center. Reverend Stephen Moser will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to The Victory Faith Center in care of the mortuary.

William Leffen

William F. Leffen, born October 19, 1925 in Joplin, passed away Tuesday, June 28.

He was the son of the late Stanford and Goodner Leffen. Bill graduated Joplin Senior High School in January 1943 where he majored in ROTC and lettered in football and basketball.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1943 and served three years in the South Pacific as a Lieutenant. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.

He was hired by Citizens Bank of Joplin (now Commerce) in 1948. He retired as President in 1969, but remained as Chairman of the Board until 1995.

Bill served on the Board of Directors of Commerce Bancshares, Inc., of Kansas City from 1969 until 1995. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of the Joplin Rotary Club, Board of Directors of the American Red Cross and Board of Directors of Twin Hills Golf and Country Club.

Bill is survived by his wife, Virginia; his three daughters, Penny Leffen Scearce (Bill) of Joplin, Beth Leffen Cole (Marty) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Sarah Leffen of Denver; four granddaughters, Becca Cole, Mollie Cole, Tricia Jones (Jeff) and Meg Skaggs (Sam); four step-sons, James Darnell, Monty Overman, Scott Overman and Rocky Overman; five great grandsons and three great granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church. Private burial will follow with Wes Houser, David Austin, Konrad Heid, Bill Scearce, Marty Cole and Bill Fowkes servicing as pallbearers, and Eddie McKay, Doug Adams, Rocky Overman, Monty Overman, Scotty Overman, Henry Robertson and Leroy Rice serving as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Bill and Virginia Leffen Autism Center.

Ruth Hart

Ruth Marie Hart, 93, Neosho, died June 27, 2016 at Freeman Neosho Hospital, Neosho, following an illness.

 Ruth was born June 18, 1923 in Stella, Missouri and was a lifelong area resident. She was a lifelong member of the Jones Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she served as song leader for 50 years and treasurer for 60 years. Ruth loved to crochet and cook. 

Ruth was married to Carl Hart and he preceded her in death. She is survived by 2 sons, Steve (Sheila) Hart of Neosho, MO and Terry (Donna) Hart of Grove, OK and by a daughter in law, Patsy Hart of Stark City, MO; seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; and a sister, Colleen Reynolds, Hutto, TX. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Larry, brother, Walter ‘Bud’ Eaton and a granddaughter, Diedra.

Susanna Hobbs

Susanna Hobbs passed away June 13, 2016 at her home in Carthage, MO. Susanna was born February 3, 1963 in Indiana, the daughter of Lee and Ruth Brown. She graduated high school in Marana, AZ, class of 1981. Susanna was a dump truck driver and had moved to Carthage from Dora, MO in October 2015.

Survivors include a daughter, Alexandra Brown, a brother, Troy Brown, two nieces, Samantha Brown and Caitlin Brown.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Private family services will be held at a later date in Mesa, AZ.

Susan Roetto

Susan Renee Roetto, age 55, of Monett, MO, passed from this life on Friday evening, June 24, 2016, while at CoxSouthMedicalCenter in Springfield, MO.

Sue was born on March 29, 1961 in Phoenix, AZ. For the last several years, Sue had worked at Lacoba Homes in Monett. Prior to that, she had worked for fifteen years at Monett Health Care. She had a very loving heart and always loved helping people. As for her family, she took great pride in being a wonderful mother and wife.

On June 8, 2012, in Eureka Springs, AR, Sue married Gary Roetto. Although their union was cut short, they were blessed with many wonderful memories.

Survivors include her husband, Gary, of the home; one son, Joe Woodward and his wife Kim, of London, England; her step-children, Matt Roetto and Danielle Roetto of Verona, MO and Aleesha Jennings and husband Ryan, of Aurora, MO; and one brother, Mark Pliler and wife Robin, of Joplin, MO.

Sue was preceded in death by one son, Terry Woodward.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Faith Worship Center, 3045 S. Elliott Ave., Aurora, MO. Reverend Arnold Ray Evans will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the family to help with medical expenses in care of First State Bank. Imogene Blalock

Imogene Blalock, 80, of Monett, MO, passed from this life to her eternal home in Heaven on Sunday, June 26, 2016 while at her residence.

Imogene was born on November 2, 1935 in rural Monett, daughter of the late Arthur and Esther (Bandy) Peterson. She had attended school in Verona and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Monett where she enjoyed going to Sunday school until her health declined. In her later years, Imogene worked for Kay’s Floral in Monett. She enjoyed working with flowers, at work and at home.

On September 14, 1957 in Monett, Imogene married Leroy “Pete” Blalock. To this union, one daughter was born. They were blessed with almost 59 years of wonderful memories made together.

Survivors include her husband, Pete Blalock, of the home; one daughter, Debbie Kenney, of Monett; two grandchildren, Darren Kenney and his wife Cassie, of Oronogo, MO and Carmen Hill and her husband Travis, of St. Charles, MO; two great-grandsons, Wesley and Jacob Kenney; one brother, Darrell Peterson and his wife Dorothy, of Pottsboro, TX; one sister, Mary Couch and her husband Wayne, of Dixon, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Imogene was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur “Jr.” Peterson, Tobe Peterson, J.T. Peterson and Howard Peterson; and two sisters, Orba Finney and Susie Volkl.

Funeral services for Mrs. Blalock will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Spring River Cemetery, Verona. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Bonnie Wheeler

Bonnie B. Wheeler, age 76, Carl Junction, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.

Bonnie was born October 12, 1939 in Shelby County, Illinois, daughter of the late Delbert Leon Rentfro and Kathleen Miriam Deppert Rentfro. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years in both Austin and Dallas, Texas, and moved to Joplin in 2005 from Texas where she worked for Leggett and Platt for 8 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Dave Wheeler whom she married June 18, 2008; children, Russell McManahan and wife Kym of Austin, Texas, Penny Burnett and husband David of Austin, and Susan Lazo of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven grandchildren; a brother, D. J. Rentfro

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary with private family services at a later date in McCune, Kansas.

Lucille Starrett

Lucille Starrett died June 25, 2016 at the age of 93 at Communities of the Wildwoods, Joplin, MO where she had lived comfortably the past 2 years

Lucille was born on August 11, 1922 in Miami, Oklahoma. Her parents were Langdon Samuel Heavin and Lola Doty Heavin. Lucille attended all 8 grades of elementary school at Tar Valley rural school North of Treece, Kansas, then attended Columbus High School graduating in 1940 with a Normal Training Teachers Certificate. She attended summer schools at Pittsburg College and began teaching in rural schools from 1940-1946.

On September 6, 1942 she married Myrl Dean Starrett, at Caney, KS, her high school sweetheart and beloved husband for 49 years. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1991. She is also preceded in death by One sister Betty Lou Stanley and 2 brothers Lenard Heavin and John Heavin.

Survivors include 2 children Myra D Hickey and husband Tommy of Miami OK and John L Starrett and wife Cindy of Joplin MO; two sisters Margaret Richardson, Baxter Springs KS and Rose Eagleson, Nevada MO; and one sister-in-law, Amy Heavin, Joplin, MO. Lucille has 3 Grandchildren Lt. Col. Broc and Katy Starrett of San Antonio, Texas, Brian Hickey and Jenny of Miami, Ok., and Erica and Tim Gaarder of Kansas City Mo., seven Great Grandchildren Halley Hickey, Molly and Jack Starrett, Connor, Kelsey, Sophia, and Lila Gaarder, several nieces and nephews and a host of beautiful friends.

Lucille was Baptized May 28, 1939 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and is a member of Center Christian Church which she dearly loved.

Lucille from 1968-1976, after raising her children went on to work at CUHS food services at rural Greenlawn Elementary School. She was a member the Retired School Personal, Merry Hearts, and active in Church at Communities of Wildwood care center.

Services are at Center Christian Church, rural Columbus, KS Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10:00 am and the family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Tom Goettel will officiate. Burial is Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be given to Center Christian Church. Arrangements by Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus KS.

Tommy Jaggars

Tommy Joe Jaggars, age 66, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

     Tommy was born July 2, 1949, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Jess and Maxine (Martin) Jaggars. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chuck Jaggars.

     On May 22, 1975, at Pryor, Tommy married Janie West, and she survives of the home. Also surviving are his children, Tina Carew, Joplin, Chris (Amy) Jaggars, Kansas City, Missouri, Niki (Scott) Tubbs, Claremore, Oklahoma, and Andrew Jaggars, Lamar; three brothers, Dick (Jackie) Jaggars, Claremore, Ronnie Jaggars, Oklahoma City, and Mike Jaggars, Muskogee, Oklahoma; a sister, Joyce (Larry) Dalland, Oklahoma City; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and a large extended family.

     Tom proudly entered the U.S. Marine Corp February 21, 1968 and served in Quan Tre, Vietnam.  His exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam left him with many health challenges throughout the rest of his life.  Completing his tour of duty, Tommy came to Lamar to work with his brother, Dick, at Ford Tractor Supply as well as hiring out to do farm work. Working in construction for many years, he was a natural at heavy equipment operating and roofing.  After his health forced him to semi-retire, Tommy worked at Truman Healthcare Center where he was a favorite of both staff and residents.  He loved to fish, hunt and demonstrate his excellent marksmanship skills at target practice.

     A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9th at Daniel Funeral Home with full military honors.

     Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Don White

Donald “Don” Edward White, age 68, of Lamar, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital.

Don was born November 15, 1947, at Arcola, Missouri to Parker and Mary Ella (Patton) White. He graduated Lamar High School 1965 and received an associate degree from Drury College. On December 23, 1976, he married Mary Kay Rogers and together they raised three children. In addition to a 35-year career with Lamar City Water Department, Don had worked for short periods of time at the Lamar Democrat, Barton County Ambulance, and O’Sullivan Industries. He gave back to his community through his 45 years of service as a Lamar Volunteer Fireman and was a representative for Missouri Water & Waste Water Management for nine years. Don was a member of Full Gospel Church of Lamar.

Survivors include his wife Mary Kay White; one son, Donald (Jennifer) White, Lamar; two daughters, Katrina (Keith) Aldridge, Lamar and Melinda (Ronald) Hanna, Joplin; one sister, Olthea June Stapp, Greenfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, Dustin (DeAnna) Rogers-White, Joy K. Aldridge, Mary Lynn Aldridge, Tyler James White, Skyler Michael White, Matthew Ryan Hanna; and one great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one infant brother, Francis Eugene White; and two sisters, Pauline Bruffey, and Virginia Rudisill.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 28th at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Nigh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1:00 pm until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty Moore

Betty Ruth Moore, 87, of Carthage, Mo passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center after several years of declining health.

Betty entered this life on January 19, 1929 in rural Oronogo, MO daughter of the late John and Olive (Buxton) Edwards. She was a graduate of Alba High School. On March 25, 1951 she was united in marriage to Glenn Eldon Moore and together they shared fifty six years until his passing on January 25, 2008. She was a devoted homemaker, she also worked in the offices of Campbell 66 Trucking, MFA Feed and oil, Tony Williams State Farm Insurance Agency, Jasper School District and Judy’s Convenience Store in Jasper MO. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Jasper, MO., Salem (quilting) Ladies Aid and Empire Baptist Church in Joplin, MO. She attended church at Salem Methodist and Jasper Methodist Church. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, sewing, quilting and cooking for her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Moore; one son, Dale Moore, her parents, John and Olive Edwards; two sisters, Ida Mae Edwards and Mary Winans; one brother, John (Tom) Edwards and son in law, Thomas Broadaway.

Betty is survived by a daughter, Glenna Broadaway and a son, Grant Moore and wife Cindy all of Carthage, MO., two sisters, Hazel Trease and Elsie Trease of Quapaw, OK., and a brother, Carroll “Doc” Edwards of Joplin, MO., six grandchildren, Sarah Broadaway, Sabrina Broadaway, Stephanie Broadaway, Brian Moore and wife Misty, Monica More and Chelsea Doyle and husband Trenton; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside funeral services for Betty are 10:00 a.m. at Paradise Cemetery, Carthage, Mo with Reverend John Christianson officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Grant Moore, Brian Moore, Randy Trease, Dennis Trease, Gary Wampler and Leon Wagner. Phyllis Cravens

Phyllis M. Cravens, age 83 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Monday June 27, 2016 following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 21, 1932 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Alfred and Dorothy (Glemmen) Peterson.

Phyllis worked as an assistant buyer in the men's department for Wal Mart. She enjoyed painting and playing all types of games.

She is survived by one son, Douglas Lyngen, Abilene, Kansas; two sisters, Sonja Athey, Joplin, Missouri, Shirley Brown, Edwards, Missouri; three granddaughters, Haley, Rebecca, Courtney; one great grandson, Jayshawn, and a special friend, Micky James,

She was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Larson.

It was Phyllis' wishes to be cremated and a celebration of life to be held at a later date.

Barbara Ann Carrender, age 71, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday June 26, 2016, at her home, after a long illness.

Barbara was born on May 17, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Arthur Letzig, Jr. and Betty (Coomes) Letzig. She married Chuck Carrender on December 28, 1968 in Belton, Mo., together they raised one son. 

She received her bachelor of Arts from Central Missouri State University. She then went on to receive two Master’s degrees one in literature and the second one was a Master’s of Library Science both from Central Missouri State University. While she was attending School she worked for Hallmark as their Head of Marketing. She has been a resident of Joplin for the past thirty years, moving her from Garden City, Ks. She worked for the Joplin School District for twenty-five years as a Elementary Librarian. She retired in 2010. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of the A.D.K. Sorority and Missouri Librarian Association.

She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Chuck Carrender, Joplin; and one son Trent Carrender and his wife Desiree`, Fayetteville, Ar.

Funeral services will be Thursday June 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Joe Crosthwait will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
A second visitation will be Friday July 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the McGilley-George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, Mo. Burial will follow at the Belton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the American Stroke Association in care of the mortuary.

Jim Schneckert

James Arthur "Jim" Schneickert, 66 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, following a sudden illness.

Jim was born September 1, 1949 in Parsons, Kansas to the late Henry Arthur Schneickert and Katherene Dye Schneickert. He graduated from Parkwood High School in Joplin with the class of 1969. Jim was retired after working many years in sales. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness-West Congregation.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jennifer Henson Schneickert, whom he married on November 28, 1969 in Joplin, Missouri.

Additional survivors include daughters, Julie Anne Fast and husband, Deryl of Springdale, Arkansas and Tracy Fast of Joplin; grandchildren, Carter James Fast, Chloe Elizabeth Fast, Gabriel Alexander Fast and Bowie Xavier Trimmell; sister, Martha Dye-Walker and husband, James of Kansas City, Missouri.

Other than his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel and Monty David Schneickert; sister, Dyann Tonkin and a grandchild, Chandler Jacob Fast.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness West Congregation, 1201 S. Schifferdecker, Joplin, MO 64801.

Michael Hoover

Michael D. Hoover, 61, Neosho, died June 24, 2016 in Columbia, Missouri following an extended illness. 

 He was born March 28, 1955 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Ernest (Doc) and Ila Jean (Daugherty) Hoover. Michael lived most of his adult life in Neosho and graduated from Neosho High School in 1974. He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator and retired after 17 years of service. He was a member of the DAV and enjoyed fishing and collecting coins. 

 Michael married Judy (Dodson) Eldridge on July 20, 2010 and she survives. Additional survivors include his mother, Ila Jean Hoover; three children, Dr. Kaitlin Ingram and husband, A.J. of San Diego, CA, Jeff Eldridge and wife, Jennifer of Springfield, MO and Megan Eldridge of Neosho, MO; four grandchildren, Essence, Karly, Makynna and Beckett; one brother, Les Hoover and wife, Sherry of Neosho and one sister, Sonja Harper and husband, Reed of Joplin, MO. Michael is preceded in death by his father.

Leroy Lovell

Burton Leroy Lovell, age 75, Carl Junction, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital after an illness.

Leroy was born October 30, 1940 in Cave Springs, Arkansas to the late William Edward Lovell, Sr. and Gladys Mae Douthitt Lovell and had lived in the Joplin area all of his life.

Leroy was a union laborer with the Local #319 for over 35 years. He enjoyed going to auctions and rummage sales and was a collector of many things.

Survivors include his children, Emmett Lovell, Carl Junction, Michele Lovell, Carl Junction, Rick Lovell, Carthage; two brothers, Henry Lovell and Vernon Lovell, both of Joplin; a sister, Mary Mitchell, Joplin; three grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Rebecca; and one great grandchild, Madilynn.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Lovell, Jr and Robert Lovell and two sisters, Fannie Shively and Ida Harvell.

Graveside services are planned for Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Jeff D. Martin will officiate. Pallbearers will be Clay Lovell, Darren Shively, Glen Lovell, Cody Lovell, Adam Lovell and Dustin Shively. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Virgil Loveland

Virgil Lewis Loveland, of Neosho MO left this life and went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2016. He was of the Baptist Faith. 

He was born August 28. 1936 in Mullinville KS to Lewis Loveland and Helen Holeman. He is survived by his wife, Erma Snow Loveland of the home, two sisters Frieda Pace (Jack),and Donna Turner, brothers, Frank, Leonard, Jerry, Erpil and Steve. He was preceded in death by a brother Fred. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who felt he was the greatest Uncle ever. As well as special friends Mike and Barbara West and family. 

Virgil served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He retired from Premiere Turbines in 1999 after 38 years. He will be remembered for always thinking of others and putting their needs and wants before his own. Virgil’s request is that everyone take a day off and do something fun and enjoyable in his remembrance. A special thanks to Freeman Neosho staff, Dr. Larry Barnes, and Dr. R.F. Williams for their excellent care.

Pollyanna R. Gruver, age 90 of Racine, Missouri, died June 27, 2016 at her home, following an illness. 

 Pollyanna was born Feb. 16, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Bert and Pearl (Harter) Martin. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at American Can Company and Montgomery Wards in Kansas City, MO. She moved to the Racine area in 1974 from Lamar, Missouri and she worked as church secretary at Racine Apostolic Church for many years. She enjoyed working and serving and was a member of the Racine Apostolic Church.

Pollyanna married Albert Franklin Gruver and he preceded her in death in 1974. She is survived by a son, Darrell Allen Gruver and wife, Denise of Racine; stepchildren, Loyd Gruver and wife Roza Mary of Jericho Springs, MO; Linda Jacoby of Pleasant Valley, MO; Sharon Perry of Holt, MO; daughter in law, Susan Gruver of Lamar; 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Gruver, stepson, Gerald Gruver and two granddaughters, Charlotte Michelle and Shauna Danielle Gruver.

 Linis was born Nov. 25, 1950 in Kincaid, Kansas, the son of Melvin and Georgia (Cole) Dell. He served in the U.S. Army and was a farmer. He enjoyed bailing hay, tractors and horses. 

Linis married Eileen (Murray) Dell and she survives. Also surviving is his mother, Georgia Pendergraft of Granby; children, Linis Dell, Jr. of Carl Junction; Kenny Arehart and wife, Barbie of Carl Junction; Jon P. Claude Wall

Claude Edward Wall, age 77, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 3:41 am in Columbus, Kansas. Claude was born January 29, 1939 in Keelville, KS.

He retired in September 2014 after 50 years as a meat cutter. He was the co-owner of C & L Foods, Carthage, MO and also worked in Seneca at G & L Foods for many years. He retired from the Apple Market in Columbus.

He graduated from Baxter High School in 1956. He was a member of Spring River Assembly of God, Riverton, where he was an Elder and a Greeter. He loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with the family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Karen Auman on July 28, 1957 in Neutral, KS. She survives.

Jerald Quarles

Jerold Quarles, 77, of Lamar, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016.

Jerold was born September 13, 1938 in Sheldon, Missouri, to the union of Lee Harris Quarles and Eunice Plain Quarles. He later resided in Iantha and Liberal, Missouri, graduating from Liberal High School in 1956. In 1961, Jerold joined the U.S. Army, serving his country faithfully until 1967. He also served in the Missouri National Guard. Mr. Quarles worked for O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar for 25 years. He also worked for Thorco Industries in Lamar and for his son, Terry, at Quarles Construction in Webb City. Jerold was a 9 year member of the Barton County Eagles 4405 in Lamar, serving as Trustee for 7 years. He was also a Mason and Shriner of Mirza Shrine, Pittsburg, Kansas.

On June 2, 1972, Jerold married Norma Duncan in Miami, Oklahoma, and together they shared 44 years.

Jerold was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Eunice Quarles; four brothers, Bob, Charles, Gene and Harold Dean Quarles; and one sister, Joyce Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of the home; son, Terry Quarles, and wife, Pamela, of Webb City; daughter, Mischele Callaghan, and husband, Michael, of Lamar; grandchildren, Kristin Quarles and fiancé, Casey Drummond, of Webb City, Jeffrey Carsel and wife, Laura, of Golden City, Austin Carsel and wife, Jamy, of Lamar, and Michael and Dustin Butcher, of Webb City; great-grandchildren, Sophie-Jo Quarles, of Webb City, Caitlyn and Remington Carsel, of Golden City, and Breanna and Cali Butcher, of Alba; and a host of extended family.

Richard Ogle

Mr. Richard Wayne Ogle, 68, of Carthage, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at St. Luke’s Care Center in Carthage, Missouri, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Richard entered this life on November 29, 1947, in Carthage, Missouri, one of six sons born to the union of the late John Victor and Goldie May (Patterson) Ogle. He was a lifelong resident of Carthage, Missouri and a 1966 graduate of Carthage High School. He worked for City of Carthage as well as other places of employment throughout the Carthage area. He was a proud Boy Scout Leader for over twenty years, helping twelve young men reach the status of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin, where he went on several mission trips to Mexico. He enjoyed being outdoors, was a talented craftsman and always looked forward to trips with his dear friends Vicki and Calvin Cassady.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jimmy Ogle; and three brothers, Jackie, Gene and Jesse Ogle.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ida Faye Rhodes-Ogle of Clarksville, Tennessee; four children, Ric Ogle and wife, Christie, of Duenweg, Missouri, Chris Ogle of Carthage, Missouri, Josh Ogle of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Rashel Ogle of Carthage, Missouri; three stepsons, Shane Metz of Maple Valley, Washington, Eric Metz of Clarksville, Tennessee and Ryan Metz of Navarre, Florida; three grandchildren, Adam, Dalton and Alivia Ogle; two great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two brothers, David Ogle of Carthage, Missouri and Denny Ogle of Willow Springs, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Clayton Aaron Lumpkins, age 46 of Joplin, Mo passed away Monday June 20, 2016 at his home. He was born on December 12, 1969 in Carthage, Mo. Clayton was very artistic and musical, playing the guitar and piano. He loved studying several different languages at the same time and enjoyed going to the museum in Kansas City. He was very thoughtful, caring and considerate for his family and friends, doing anything for anybody. 

Clayton is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Arthur R. Tapley, and paternal grandparents Floyd and Helen Lumpkins. Survivors include his mother Barbara Melton of Joplin, Mo., two brothers: Craig Lumpkins and his wife Toni and their children Eric, David and Mariana of Lake Worth, Fl., and Clint Lumpkins and his wife Sandra and their children Mercedes, Justin, Megan and Connor, and great niece Penelope of Washington, D.C., maternal grandmother Janet Tapley of Carthage, Mo. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday June 24, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage, Mo with pastor Greg Esselman officiating. Nida Rudd

Nida E. Rudd age 89, of Joplin passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at National Health Care in Joplin. 

She was born on June 9, 1927 to Charles Hamilton and Nida (Smith) Hamilton in Mobile, Alabama. Nida was a CPA for over 15 years while raising a family, and a member of the South Joplin Christian Church. She always had a love of art and became a full time professional artist after her retirement. Nida was married to Malary C. Rudd and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1984. 

She is survived by her sons, Michael Rudd of Joplin, Tim Rudd of Coffeyville, KS; a daughter, Laura Martin of Texas; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Nida has been taken for cremation. 

The family will have a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the South Joplin Christian Church, 1901 South Pearl Avenue, Joplin, MO 64804. Burial will take place at a later date in Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the church in her memory.

Sharon Fretwell

Sharon Campbell Fretwell was liberated from her earthly body, June 22, 2016.

Born to Earl and Mary (Hickman) Campbell September 22, 1946 she was a 1964 graduate of Joplin High School. She was voted “best all around” by her peers. She attended Joplin Junior College and was the 1965 Homecoming queen.

Her life took her to several cities around the country, where she made beautiful homes and had many friends. She returned home to Joplin and cared for her parents during their declining health.

She is survived by John Fretwell, whom she loved all her life, her daughter Krista Fretwell, Raymore MO, her sister and brother in law Earline and Bill Kelly, Carl Junction MO, her favorite niece, Kim Mccann Lawson and her husband Mark, Sacramento CA. and too many friends to count.

She left instructions for her body to be cremated and memorial services are unknown at this time.

Charles Privett

Charles Leroy Privett, age 78, of Granby, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, in his home.

He was born January 1, 1938 in Washburn, Missouri, the son of Claude Lee and Grace Ruth Victoria (Wade) Privett. On May 19, 1960 in Ridgley, Missouri he was united in marriage to Doris Jane Lemon, who preceded him in death on August 20, 2015. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Donald and Dale Privett and a son-in-law, Lonnie Fidler.

Surviving are three daughters, Diana Privett and Jeff Linder of Noel, Missouri, Victoria Fidler of Aurora, Missouri and Sarah Torres and Richard McVey of Reeds Spring, Missouri; one brother, Russell Privett of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Lenore Haynes of Kansas City; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Charles received his education at Wheaton, Missouri. During the Korean War he served in the United States Navy. For several years he was employed at Carthage Marble as a jackhammer operator.

Sam Miller

Samuel L. Miller, age 84, Jasper, MO, passed away at 9:45 p.m. June 20, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. 

Sam was born March 24, 1932 in Jasper County, Missouri to Samuel J. and Lorraine (York) Miller. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1950 and was named Star Farmer and later was awarded the American Farmer degree. He attended the University of Missouri and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. He graduated in 1956 with a B. S. Degree in Agriculture Economics. He served as a field representative for Borden's, Pet Milk, and W. R. Grace Company. He started farming with his father in 1973. Sam was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge #398, the Carthage Shrine Burn Crew, and Abou Ben Adhem in Springfield, and he was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church. 

On December 25, 1954 he married Sherrill Weatherly. She survives. Sam is also survived by four daughters; Kristi (Bernie) Busken, Gilbert, AZ, Shelley (Mark) Stone, Maryland Heights, MO, Molly (Tim Reynolds) Miller, Dodge City, KS, and Courtney Miller, Lake Mary, FL He was “Bacca” to five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. For many years Sam was the sports writer for the Jasper County News and covered all the football games, always listing every player’s name in his weekly story. Sam had a host of friends and never met a stranger. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing bridge with the Monday afternoon bridge group. 

The family will receive friends at Weng Funeral Chapel in Jasper, MO from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at the Jasper United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016. The body has been cremated and a private inurnment will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Jasper United Methodist Church or Paradise Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Caroline Morton

Caroline R. Morton age 71 of Oronogo passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital. 

She was born on October 16, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to Christian Reign Luginbill and Loretta (Mitchell) Luginbill. Caroline was a travel agent, previously had worked as a car hop at the family owned Lugie’s Drive In, attended Alba Christian Church, and graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1962. She was the senior class president, a cheerleader; along with many other activities. 

Caroline is survived by her son, Chris Morton and fiancé Jamie Cole of Ketchum, OK; daughter, Candice Humphrey and husband Kevin of Webb City; friend, David Morton of Webb City; sisters, Susie Little of Grand Lake Town, OK, Diane Luginbill of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Marisa Bolin, Skylan Bolin, Zebediah Humphrey, Blake Cole, Tanner Cole, Shianne Morton; great grandchildren, Skyla Dawn Cole, Wyatt Keith Earp Moorhead, and Saige Michelle Moorhead.

Vera Scribner

Vera L. Scribner, 78, Diamond, died June 22, 2016 at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin, following an illness. Vera was born Sept. 11, 1937 in Carthage, Missouri and was a lifelong area resident. She worked at the Diamond Schools as a cook for many years and had also worked at Camp Cyokamo at Alba and Girl Scout Camp. Vera enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and supporting her grandchildren in their activities. She was an avid supporter of Diamond and was good to everyone.

Vera and Delmer Scribner were married on Dec. 3, 1964 in Joplin and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2007. She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Walstead of Joplin; four grandchildren, Cameron Scribner, Chelsea Burleson and husband, Brent, Corey Walstead and Colton Walstead; nine great grandchildren and a very special friend, Carol Scribner of Joplin. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Edward Scribner; her parents, Alvin and Clara Sapp; four brothers, Ed, Bud, Earl and Jack Sapp and three sisters, Lorraine Scott, Emma Carroll and Laura Bell Sapp.

Elmer Walter Elhard, Jr. of Anderson, MO died on June 22, 2016, at the age of 70 at the Golden Living Center in Anderson, MO after a hard fought battle with cancer for 6 months. 

Elmer was born July 18, 1945, in Helena, Montana, the son of Elmer and Margaret (Miller) Elhard. He was a lifelong resident of the Neosho and Anderson area. He worked for Robbins Dodge & Chrysler in Neosho for 25 years and then for 32 years with his wife at Howard's Brake and Front End Service in Anderson, MO. Elmer loved to refurbish clocks and restore old cars. 

 Elmer married Diane Howard on June 21, 1985, in McDonald County and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Connie Sue Quinton and husband, Rob, Jay, OK; Shannon Dodson and husband, Cody, Neosho, MO; Katherine Orlando and fiancé, Darin White, Henderson, CO; and Amy Hoctor and husband, Steve, Neosho, MO; four grandchildren; and a brother, Bobby Elhard, Neosho, MO. Elmer is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Jean Russell.

Ernie Thompson

Ernest "Skip" Robert Thompson, Jr., 85 of Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away peacefully Monday, June 20, 2016 at Foxberry Terrace in Webb City, Missouri.

Ernie was born May 18, 1931 in Paola, Kansas to the late Ernest R. Thompson, Sr. and Reba Sherman Thompson. He graduated high school from Boonville High 1949 serving as Vice President of his class, and then received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Missouri in 1958. He proudly served his country from 1951-1953 in the United States Navy.

Ernie started his career as a Civil Engineer at the Los Angeles Dept. of Power and Water from 1958-1960. He then took a job at Borg-Warner Corp in Washington, West Virginia and Louisville, Kentucky from 1960-1969. He served as Application Development Engineer, Marketing Manager and Dept. Coordinator. From 1969-1971 Ernie worked for Cabot Piping System as Manager of Marketing and Sales. He then worked for W.S. Dickey Clay in Pittsburg, Kansas, serving as Vice President and Director of Marketing from 1971-1980. Ernie was founder and president of ETCO Specialty Products in Girard, Kansas from 1980-1999.

On February 21, 1953, Ernest married Mary Lavonne Cramer in San Diego, California. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2011. Additionally. a daughter, Angie Darlington and siblings, Richard Thompson and Mitzi Payne preceded Ernie in death.

Survivors include sons, Ernie Thompson of Parsons, Kansas, Mike Thompson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Daniel Thompson of Carl Junction, Missouri; daughters, Nancy Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Jenny Thompson of Girard, Kansas; sister, Maurine Rootes of Atlanta, Georgia; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Foxberry Terrace for their outstanding care over the past year. Also, thank you to Daniel Thompson, Ronda Sloan, and Kerri Sponsel for their tireless dedication and exceptional care.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Living Faith Church, Girard, Kansas with Rev. Dale Samuels officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either National Diabetes Foundation, A.L.S. or Future Hope Haiti.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

Ruth Eldridge

Ruth Frances Erwin-Eldridge, 93, of Joplin, laid down to take a nap and slipped quietly and peacefully into the arms of our Lord Jesus on the afternoon of Saturday, June 18, 2016.

Ruth was born near Catoosa, Oklahoma on April 14, 1923, the daughter of the late George A. Erwin and Maud Josephine Wells-Erwin. Growing up in the Great Depression, she moved to Tulsa to complete school and graduated from Central High School, Tulsa, with the class of 1940. While in high school Ruth participated in the water ballet team with classmate Esther Williams, who went on to Hollywood fame.

On September 18, 1942 she married her first husband, Wallace “Wally” Porter. Wally enlisted in the army the next month and fought in the European Theater of World War II. He was killed in action in Italy on October 6 1944.

Ruth then moved to San Diego, California where she spent the rest of the war working for the Army Corps of Engineers. At the war’s end she met a young blue eyed Marine named Orval Eldridge. They were married three months later, on October 29, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona.
The couple made their home in the Four States, moving first to Baxter Springs where Orval was a manager for Vickers. Realizing that he wasn’t meant for the corporate world, Orval established the Eldridge Automotive Company (later Eldridge Muffler) at 12th and Joplin, in Joplin, which he maintained until his retirement in 1981. Although the building was sold after Orval’s passing, the distinctive muffler sign that he constructed stands to this day.

Ruth loved her church, Blendville Christian Church, and was the missions chairperson for many years. She was also very involved in other areas, such as the choir, and had a deep and passionate love for the Lord. She worked for many years with the Southeast Kansas Community Action Program as a social worker. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Veteran's of Foreign War Auxiliary, and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Wallace Porter and her lifelong husband, Orval; by two sisters, Miriam and Bertha; four brothers, Willis, George, Jack and Jerry; a half brother, Arthur; two step daughters, Mary Evelyn Hale and Zelma Keefe; and a nephew, George II.

Ruth is survived by a son, Tommy, and his wife Vicki, (and children Kevin and Allen Coursey) of Baxter Springs; a daughter, Carolyn Mackey, and her husband, Keith, (and their children MSgt Joshua Mackey, Dr. Amber Mackey-Wilson, and Jordan Mackey) of Springdale; a son, Lincoln, and his wife Pam, (and their children, Emily Russell, London Eldridge, Tanner Eldridge, Madison Slater-Eldridge and Jordan Hubbard) of Laquey, Missouri; a very special nephew, Allan Erwin; a special neighbor, Christie Ritter; her brothers Lawrence, and his wife, Mary, of Tulsa, and Alfred and his wife Derla, of Broken Arrow; a sister, Patricia Valencia, and her husband, Estaban, of Tulsa; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, many family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-7pm Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:00am in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Keith Mackey officiating. Contributions can be made to Missions Fund, Blendville Christian Church, 2209 Picher Ave., Joplin MO 64801.

Carolyn Randall

Carolyn Middleton Randall, 80 of Joplin, Missouri was received into Heaven on Monday June 20, 2016. She was born to Ralph and Cloetella Callentine Middleton on April 9, 1936 in Joplin. She was a retired school teacher. She and her husband Robert Dale Randall were faithful members of the Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin where she was for many years an Awana’s volunteer. She began teaching in a rural Missouri one-room schoolhouse and finished her career teaching second grade at Kelsey Norman Elementary School. Mrs. Randall substituted for the school district for another 16 years. She loved working with children.
She was an active member of Missouri Retired Teachers Association, Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and enjoyed her monthly Bunko games with friends as well as extensive travels with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Jean Hager, Marlene Summy, Mary Lou Wommack; and her brother, Kenneth Middleton.
Carolyn Randall is survived by her husband of fifty-five years and the light of her life Dale Randall; one daughter, Sabrina Randall Edwards and her husband Ken Edwards of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one son Robert Douglas Randall and his wife Tiffany Randall of Harrison, Nebraska; one step-daughter Barbara Sutherland of Bella Vista, Arkansas and step-son Gary Randall and his wife Judy of Washburn, Missouri and grandchildren: Lindsey Allen, Drew Allen, Colton Randall, Christina Linderman, Robin Hawkins, Dana Sutherland, Robbie Randall and Aleesa Randall; two great-grandchildren Caleb Simmons and Briella Linderman; one sister, Jacque Winnie; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Randall will be Monday June 27 at Forest Park Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Doug Randall, Drew Allen, Gary Randall, Robbie Randall, Aidan Ponce, and Brad Franchione. Honorary Pallbearers include Colton Randall, Ken Edwards, Ron Bowen, Larry Beck, A.C. Brown, J.B Fridell, Bob Armistead, Bruce Hager and Paul Hager.

Carolyn’s family extends sincere thanks for the prayers, cards and calls during an extended illness, and the care given by the Peachtree Hospice Home Health Care Aides and Nurses, and the Peachtree Hospice Unit at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Nicole E. Shaner, age 44, of Pierce City, MO died on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Nicole was born in Houston, TX on Sunday, December 12, 1971. She was the daughter of George and Pat (Terry) Shaner.

Surviving are the following: her three daughters, Brittny Gouker of Monett, MO, Alexis Morris of Pierce City, MO, and Skylar Morris of Pierce City, MO; her mother and dad, Mr. and Mrs. George Shaner of Pierce City, MO, seven sisters, Bobbi Sherwood of Stark City, MO, Kristal Atwater of the State of Maine, Tica Shaner of Vandalia, MO, Tanya Hull of Kansas City, MO, Melissa Woodworth of Siloam Springs, AR, Terri Shaner of the State of Maine, and Trisha Shaner of the State of Maine; five brothers, James Shaner of the State of Texas, Steve Shaner of Depoe Bay, OR, Erich Shaner of Joplin, MO; Michael Shaner of Pierce City, MO, and Christopher Shaner of Joplin, MO.
Nicole was preceded in death by one brother, William David Shaner.

John Livingston

John Joseph Livingston, Sr., age 78, of Joplin passed away on Sunday June 19, 2016, at National Healthcare, following an illness.

John was born on December 16, 1937 in Baxter Springs, Ks, the son of the late John Joseph Livingston, Sr. and Annabelle Skye. He has been a lifetime area resident. He graduated High School in 1955 from Baxter Springs, Ks. and Kansas State College at Pittsburg in 1960 with a degree in Mathematics. He was hired by Eagle Picher Industries on July 18, 1960 and worked for Eagle Picher for a total of nearly forty- two years. He worked in the research laboratory in Joplin for ten years. John then transferred to the Eagle Picher Research Laboratory at Miami, Oklahoma and spent twenty-two years at that facility before moving to the Electo-optic Plant at Quapaw, Oklahoma where he retired after nine years of service to that plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a proud member of the Peoria Indian Tribe of Oklahoma. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and reading.

John married Jerrel Deane Manley on September 10, 1960, and she survives. Additional survivors include, two sons, John Livingston III and wife Jo Ellen, Lees Summit, Mo., and Dan Livingston and wife Lorene, Joplin; two brothers, Mike Livinston, Denton, Tx., and Pat Livingston and wife Judy, Manhattan, Ks.; one sister, Jeanne Livingston, six grandchildren, Alex, Natalia, and Vala Livingston, Shandera Workman, Clay Sweeton and Jackie Sweeton.; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Jamie Tickle will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude’s Hospital of Memphis, Tn. in care of the mortuary.

Fred McLean

Fredrick Edward McLean, Sr. age 83, Joplin, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Center, Baxter Springs, Kansas.

Fred was born October 8, 1932 in Joplin, son of the late Thomas A. McLean and Goldie Bentley McLean. He graduated from Joplin High School, then joined the United States Army where he served in both Korea and Vietnam. He retired after 20 years as a Staff Sergeant in 1970. He received several medals and citations during his service including a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart. After his Military career he earned his License Practical Nurse degree and worked for over 20 years at the American Lake V.A. Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Fred loved to spend time with his family, especially his wife, and also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of First Gospel Workers Church of Joplin. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Clyde and Donald, all of Joplin.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Hannelore Eberhorn McLean; sons, Fredrick E. McLean, Jr. and wife Diana of Tacoma, Washington, Thomas A. McLean of Joplin; daughter, Kathy McLean Huffman of Sidney, Ohio; sister, Violet McLean of Oronogo, Missouri; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. His ashes will be taken for interment in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Donna Evans

Donna G. Evans, 63, Joplin passed away Friday June 17, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin. Donna Gail Evans was born May 21, 1953 in Newton County, MO to the late Charles E. Evans and Dorothy L. (Christy) Evans. She was a graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Class of 1971 and attended Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS. Donna worked for Crossmart Marketing Firm. She was also a member of the Southwest Missouri Democrats, Bess Truman Democrat Club, and Emily Newell Blair Women’s Democratic Club.

She is survived by a cousin; Cathy (husband Stephen) Holt, Joplin.

Carolyn Mitchell

Carolyn Marie Mitchell, 39, of Tupelo, Mississippi, formerly of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life suddenly on Thursday, June 16, 2016, in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Carolyn began her earthly journey on March 8, 1977, in Joplin, Missouri, the only daughter born to Gary L. Mitchell and the late Kathleen (Atkinson) Mitchell. She was raised in Joplin, Missouri, and was a 1995 graduate of Joplin High School. She furthered her education at MSSU receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. After college she resided in Kansas City working with probation and parole. She returned home to Joplin and began her career in pharmaceutical sales with Novartis Pharmaceutical Company. She moved to Tupelo, Mississippi, in 2015, and was currently working in the field of software sales.

Carolyn was very family oriented and truly loved children. She wasn’t just a terrific aunt to her nieces and nephews, she had a very large group of friends and if they had children then you can guarantee she played the role of Aunt Carolyn to those kids as well. She rarely (if ever) missed a birthday party, graduation, family gatherings or a holiday. She even hated it if we deviated from our Christmas traditions. Carolyn never had any trouble meeting new friends. She had a very large group of friends and her infectious smile made her the life of many, many parties. Fun, laughter and silly moments were an essential part of her character. She loved to travel. It didn’t matter if it was a short road trip to Kansas City or a medium trip within the US or a long trip to Europe or the Caribbean; she was excited and ready for the next experience. Carolyn was a movie and music fanatic. She had a huge DVD collection and nobody enjoyed watching and re-watching movies like Carolyn. She was a loyal local sports enthusiast. When in Kansas City she really loved following the Chiefs and Kansas University Basketball and with her recent move to Tupelo she developed a growing interest in Ole Miss Football.

Carolyn is survived by her father, Gary Mitchell of Joplin, Missouri; three brothers, Mike Mitchell and wife, Jenna, of St. Louis, Missouri, Scott Mitchell and wife, Sara, of Bixby, Oklahoma and Pat Mitchell of Nixa, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews, Ally, Jacey, Mason, Anna Kate, Ryan, Allie Jo, Josie and Max; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday morning June 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Mike, Scott, Pat, Mason, Ryan and Max Mitchell. Private burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri. A Rosary and Prayer Service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, Missouri, with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are being directed to either St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or the Ozark Center and contributions may be left at the mortuary. Bernice Lankford

Bernice B. Lankford, age 88, Webb City, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Bernice was born May 28, 1928 in Hobart, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Tedford Little and Ruthie Souls Little. She married Wesley Frank Lankford, and he preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy, a son, Gene, a brother, Bill, and a sister, Barbara.

She is survived by a son, Jimmy Wayne Lankford of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Shirley Lankford of Webb City; grandchildren, Denise, Jeri, Kara, Leslie, Janette, Darrell, Drew, Jimmy, Marjorie, and Tommy; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Gonzales Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas with interment next to her husband in Laurel Oaks Memorial Gardens, Mesquite, Texas.

Shawn Kimbrough

Patty Roechanne “Shawn” Kimbrough, age 58, of Rocky Comfort, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, in her home.

She was born June 2, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Billy Max and Peggy (Smith) Edie. On May 8, 1976, in Rocky Comfort, she was united in marriage to Johnny Kimbrough, who survives. Also surviving are her father of Rocky Comfort; two daughters, Jennifer Allen and her husband Randy of Fairview, Missouri and Kelli Kimbrough and Matt Reinhard of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Scott Edie and one sister, Terry Scates and her husband Terry all of Rocky Comfort and four grandchildren, Stormi and Sydnee Allen and Nemo and Rexx Reinhard.

Preceding her in death were her mother, one brother, Tracy and one sister, Shelly.

Shawn attended school at Wheaton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and being with her grandkids and her family. Shawn attended Ridgely Southern Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton, Missouri. Brother Danny Heupel will conduct the service. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, Missouri.

Marion Bennett

Marion Young (M.Y.) Bennett was born September 6, 1926 in Chelsea, Oklahoma. He entered into rest on June 15, 2016 at his home in Neosho, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 9 days. Marion served as a minister since he was 19 years old. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God for over 60 years. He married Marple Ruth Henderson on July 18, 1947 and she preceded him in death. They had three sons together. Later, he married Juanita June Douthitt on June 10, 1995 and she survives.

Sue Wardlow

Carolyn Sue Wardlow of Carl Junction died peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Joplin after a long battle with cancer.

Sue was born June 13, 1939, in Carl Junction to Blanche Irene "Annie" (Cox) Smith and Arthur Henry "Bud" Smith, who both preceded her in death. She was a proud lifelong Carl Junction resident.

She drove a school bus for the Carl Junction R-1 School District for more than 35 years before retiring due to her health. Sue enjoyed her "school children" immensely, and often took extra trips for the band, speech/debate team, and sports teams whenever she could.

Sue was preceded in death by her high-school sweetheart and former husband, Wilbur Nett Wardlow.

She also is survived by her best friend and sister, Harriet Irene Williams, and her husband, Lee, of Carl Junction.

She is also survived by her son, Michael, and his wife, Jennifer, of Joplin; two daughters, Sue Ann Clark, and her husband, Mitch, of the Joplin area, and Kathy Howard, and her husband, Dan, of Joplin; and by seven grandchildren: Benjamin Wardlow, Nathan Wardlow, Matt Monroe, Ashley Doss, Alyssa Monroe, Sydney Long, and Grace Howard, all of Joplin.

Sue wished to express her thanks and gratitude to Dr. David Croy and his staff, to her friend Paul Cook and the Infusion Center team, and to all of her caregivers who helped her through her illness the past several years.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary Chapel in Joplin. Burial will be in Carl Junction Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Brian Oplotnik, Brad Oplotnik, Bruce Oplotnik, Lloyd Lee Smith, Woody Shoemaker and Chris Deem.

Sunny Tennille “Jeffries” Keith, 39, passed away June 18, 2016 in Joplin, Missouri. 

Sunny was born October 13, 1976 in Carthage, Missouri to Kenny and Reatha Jeffries. Sunny was a lifetime Carthage resident and was a homemaker. 

Sunny was united in marriage to Michael Keith January 13, 2013 in Carthage, MO he survives. Sunny is survived by her parents, and husband, one daughter Abigail Keith of Carthage, three sons Patton Lowery, Riley Lowery and Milo Keith all of Carthage, one sister Hope Jeffries of Carthage.

Valentina Martinez Lopez, infant daughter of Jaime Martinez Saenz and Martha Lorena Lopez, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016.

Valentina was born June 5, 2016 in Joplin. She is survived by her parents, Jaime and Martha; grandparents, Amelia Martinez and Efrain Martinez, Jesus Lopez Garcia and Elena Anaya Molina; several aunts and uncles, Alicia Martinez, Yeni Martinez, Efrain Martinez, Jose Manuel Lopez Anaya, Adrina Janet Lopez Anaya, Filiberto Lopez Anaya.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Father Rehab Isidor officiating

Bill Spiva

Bill D. Spiva, Neosho, died June 15, 2016 at the age of 75. Bill was born Aug. 10, 1940 in Stella, Missouri, the son of William and Geraldine (Dickens) Spiva. He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Neosho High School in 1958. He worked for Shade Tree Utility and then at Interstate Securities and had lived in Arizona and Springfield, returning to Neosho in 1978.

Upon returning to Neosho, he and his wife, Linda, established Spiva Realty and worked actively in the real estate business until selling the business and retiring. Bill was an avid supporter of youth and established the Pizza Hut Basketball league and had coached football, basketball and baseball. He had served as President of Crowder College Booster Club as well as Neosho High School Booster Club. He was a member of the Neosho Shrine Club and Masonic Lodge and was instrumental in the building of the current Masonic Lodge. He had served as president of the Newton County Board of Realtors and was a member of the Racine Christian Church. 

Bill and Linda McNeely were married on July 29, 1961 at the Neosho United Methodist Church and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Debbie Scott and husband Doug and Michael Spiva and wife, Jenny all of Neosho; four grandchildren, Jordan Daniel and husband, Austin; Coleman Scott, Cade Spiva and Mason Spiva and a sister, Jeannine Lenger and husband, Steve of Joplin. Bill is preceded in death by his parents.
