Wayne Alan Fischer, 59 was born in Alliance, NE on 27 Feb, 1957 to Joe Fischer and Luetta Bemiss Fischer. Wayne departed from this life on 26 Oct 2016 in Springfield, MO from a sudden illness.

Wayne was a stone mason or as he always said, a Master Mason. He graduated from McDonald Co High School in 1975. He spent almost all of his life in Noel, MO, moving to Noel as a child in 1963.

Wayne was a big Chicago Cubs fan. He loved to garden, deer hunt, fish camp and being outside. He was the most giving, caring and funny person. He would do anything he could for anyone that needed it. He was liked by anybody who ever knew him. He touched many lives and will be missed by all.

Survivors include his parents, Joe & Lou Fischer; his wife Toni, daughter, Kylie Fischer; son, Cameron Hoke; daughter, Tara Tolbert; Godson Izai’ya Jay Burgos; sisters, Karen and Joe Car-penter; Mary Jane (Janie) Fischer and Garry Galyean; Nancy and David Huntsman. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a large host of friends.

Claudine Link

Claudine C. Link, 96, of Rocky Comfort, Missouri went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at her daughter's residence in Neosho, Missouri.

She was born on March 2, 1920 in Stella, Missouri to the late, Lorenzo and Elma (Nicely) Patton. Claudine married the love of her life, Byron Cullers Link on February 2, 1942 in Washburn, Missouri. She enjoyed farming, gardening, flowers and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, always trying to attend all their many functions. Claudine was a dedicated member of the Crossroads Baptist Church in Longview, Missouri where she started attending at the age of 13.

Claudine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron Cullers Link on February 12, 1988; her children, Gayle Blevins Hoyt, Max Link; grandchild, Richard Link; three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa McIlvaine and husband, David of Neosho, Missouri; two sister-in-laws, Betty Patton of Springdale, Arkansas, Kathleen McGarrah of Stella, Missouri; grandchildren, Annette Freytag, Angela Carney, Christy Garcia, Ashleigh Blevins, Emileigh McIlvaine, Stephen McIlvaine, Brittany Pendergraft, Jacob Pritchard, Brett Pendergraft, Dustin Carney, Vanessa Carney, Brandon Ada, Cassandra Garcia, Aiden Yoder, Evalynn Lehto; as well as a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss Claudine.

Funeral services for Claudine Link will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Pastor Roger Morey will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the Macedonia cemetery in Stella, Missouri. Those honoring Claudine's, life by serving as pallbearers, David McIvaine, Stephen McIlvaine, Rob Pendergraft, Brandon Ada, Dustin Carney, Brian McIlvaine and Brett Pendergraft. Penny Moorehouse-Coates

Penny Diane Moorehouse-Coates was the fifth child of Andy and Helene Moorehouse. She had four brothers, Bob, Larry, Ron and Donald (“Moose”). She was born and raised in Carthage, Missouri.

Penny learned to play a Hammond organ and played at many social and private functions. She worked at Bob’s Shoe Warehouse until going to Missouri Southern College, majoring in psychology. After graduating from college she got a job at the Joplin Regional Center as a case worker. She worked her way up to the ranks to eventually becoming the director.

Penny met Ed Coates during her last college years. They were together 38 years, 12 of those years they dated then got married. They moved from her home on Olive Street, purchasing their permanent home on Highland Avenue.

Penny retired in 2014, only to become sicker with cancer and suffered tremendously until death. Penny passed peacefully in her sleep October 27, 2016.

Visitation was held Friday, October 28th at the Southwest Missouri Bank community room. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29th at the Harvey Cemetery East of Carthage near LaRussell.

Mary Jennings

Mary Louise Jennings, 61 years, of Goodman, Missouri, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016, at her residence in Goodman, Missouri.

Mary was born on January 18, 1955 at Wyandotte, Oklahoma to John and Mary (Crow) Griner. She grew up and attended school in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. She worked for Hudson Foods, then Tyson's for 25 years, she was a very hard worker. Mary enjoyed gardening and taking long walks with her son, Billy. She attended Blessed Hope Church in Goodman, Missouri.

Mary is survived by her children, Billy Gene Robertson, Jr. of Goodman, Missouri, Christina Lynn Geddings of Pineville, Missouri; her boyfriend, Leroy Raines of Goodman, Missouri; brothers, Frank Griner of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, Charles Griner of Afton, Oklahoma, Jim Griner of Oklahoma, Freddy Griner of Anderson, Missouri, Lonnie Griner of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; sisters, Sharon Teague of Anderson, Missouri, Marjorie Roberts of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, Ruthy Griner of Racine, Missouri, Patricia Leemasters of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Nariah Johnson, Grant Johnson, Christopher Wingo, Darrell Wingo, Isabella Johnson, and Cody (Bubba) Marak; grandchildren, Wade Johnson and wife, Telashia, Darrell Villegas, Glenn Lane and wife, Katrina Lane, Amanda Lane and fiancé, Cody Marak, Brandon Robertson; son-in-law, Darrell Lane; along with a host of other relatives and friends who will dearly miss Mary.

Margerie Greene

Margerie Cora Greene, 87, of Noel, Missouri passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at her residence in Noel, Missouri.

She was born on July 9, 1929 in El Monte, California to the late, George William and Lilly Mae Stella (Sebring) Schon. Margie grew up in Baker City, Oregon and graduated from Baker High School. She married Donald Greene on May 30, 1973 in McDonald County, Missouri. Margie enjoyed music, books and computer games. She attended the Mill Creek Baptist Church in Noel, Missouri. She loved visiting with friends and family.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald Greene in February of 2000; two daughters, Donna Rae Crosby and Carman Warnaca.

She is survived by her children, Herbert R. Crosby of Gravette, Arkansas, son-in-law, Phillip Warnaca of Neosho, Missouri; grandchildren, Karla Glass and husband, James, Ira Warnaca and wife, Colleen; great grandchildren, Alexandra and Paige Glass, Alex Warnaca; as well as a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss Margie.

Nancy Bitzenberg

Mrs. Nancy Lou Helm Bitzenberg, 69, of Pineville and Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2016, at the McDonald County Living Center in Anderson, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

Nancy began her earthly journey on February 8, 1947, in Neosho, Missouri, one of four children born to Lloyd Helm, Sr. and Jean (Mosier) Helm. She was raised in Pineville, Missouri and was a 1966 graduate of Pineville High School. She furthered her education at the University of Tulsa. In 1968, she married Bill Weber and to this union a daughter and three sons were born. Bill’s profession afforded them the opportunity to reside in various places throughout the world. They eventually settled in Bedford, Texas where they raised their children. After they divorced in 1991, Nancy returned home to her beloved McDonald County and for twenty-one years she was a data entry clerk at the McDonald County Courthouse. On December 18, 1994, she married Doyle R. Pennel and together they shared twelve years before his passing on May 7, 2007. On May 27, 2011, she and Bert Bitzenberg were married. They resided in Joplin, Missouri, but Nancy still retained and spent time in the home she built in Pineville. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, dirt roading through the hills of McDonald County, going to the movies and out to eat, playing card games especially bridge, and entertaining her family and numerous friends. She was a longtime member of the Pineville United Methodist Church and a stanch supporter of the McDonald County Republican Club.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Lloyd Helm Sr.; and husbands, Richard Blevins (who was killed in action during Vietnam) and Doyle Pennel.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Bert Bitzenberg of Joplin, Missouri; her four children, Stefanie Nation and husband, Jim, of Decatur, Texas, Sam Weber and wife, Stacy, of Arlington, Texas, William “Billy” Weber and wife, Diane, of Neosho, Missouri and Jamey Weber and wife, Jennifer, of Anderson, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Keaton Weber, Kierra Weber, Kade Weber, Addison Nation, Dylan Nation, Tanner Weber, Parker Weber, Madison Weber, Chandler Pittman-Weber, Regan Pittman-Weber, Jackson Weber and Layla Weber; her mother, Jean Helm of Pineville, Missouri; a brother, Sam Helm and wife, Joye, of Pineville; two sisters, Rebecca Ellington and husband, George, of Cleveland, Texas and Cindy Harvey and husband, Charles, of Shell Knob, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Terry Mitchell

Mr. Terry Lee Mitchell, 61, of rural Pineville, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, October 23, 2016, in the comfort of his home after a lengthy illness.

Terry entered this life on December 14, 1954, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, the only child of the late Barney E. and Mildred I. (Moon) Mitchell. He was raised in Kansas, Oklahoma and was a 1973 graduate of Kansas High School. He attended trade school in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, for mechanics. On February 18, 1979, in Rogers, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Stites and to this union two sons were born. In 1984 they moved to a farm in the Simsberry Community in rural McDonald County. Before being self-employed in the agriculture industry he spent thirteen years with Walmart working in warehouse numbers 2&4. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and simply being outdoors. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane were he also served as Deacon.

Terry is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Mary Ellen Mitchell of the home; two sons, Henry Mitchell and wife, Melissa, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and Wade Mitchell and wife, Amanda, of Anderson, Missouri; six grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell are 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jane, Missouri, with Bro. Hank Gorman officiating. Edith Pennell

Edith Ann Pennell, age 81, of rural Lamar, passed away early Saturday morning, October 22, 2016, at her home.

Edith was born June 2, 1935, in Jasper County, Missouri, the 10th of the twelve children of Alfred and Enola (Parrish) Pennell. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy, Leonard, and Loyd Pennell; and three sisters, Viola Blackford, Mary Harris, and Rosie Kaderly.

Love for the Lord was evident in Edith’s life as she cared for those around her with genuine kindness and quiet gentleness. She was a faithful member of Newport Baptist Church where she served as song leader for many years. Love for her family was expressed by her willingness to share her time and talents in service to others. She and her sister Wilma were devoted caregivers for their parents as well as for Nadine Cross. In addition to being a homemaker, Edith raised chickens and cattle, and enjoyed mowing grass as long as her health permitted. She was an excellent seamstress and had hand quilted many beautiful quilts over the years.

Survivors include her sister, Wilma, of the home; four brothers, Louis Pennell, Jasper, Nick Pennell, Osceola, Missouri, Luther (Judy) Pennell, and Lonnie (Juanita) Pennell, both of rural Lamar; many nephews and nieces; and a large extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25th at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Round Prairie Cemetery.

Joseph McNally

Joseph Wade McNally, age 82, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, in Joplin, Missouri.

Joe was born April 26, 1934, in Dover, Missouri, to George Dewey McNally and Laura Ellen (Hatfield) McNally.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Randall and James McNally; and one grandson, James D. McNally, II.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley McNally; three sons, Rick McNally and wife, Martha, Tim McNally and wife, Marti, and Phillip McNally, all of Joplin; fourteen grandchildren, Rick McNally, II and wife, Kelly, Joe McNally, II, Sean McNally, Sierra Ball and husband, Zach, Amanda Feken and husband, Scott, Randall McNally, II and wife, Jessie, Crystal Worden and husband, Jeff, Abbey McNally, Josh McNally and wife, Lacey, Dylan McNally, River McNally, Mitch Edwards and wife, Judy, Nick Tuinstra and Sarah Lovett, all of Joplin; sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rev. McNally was currently pastoring the Reinmiller Baptist Church in Joplin. Bro. McNally started preaching in 1961. He founded Word of Truth Revivals and five years of this ministry was spent on Indian reservations. Bro. McNally was also featured on the Christian radio station, KCLO, in Leavensworth, Kansas. Upon settling in Joplin, he opened a car dealership and worked there until retiring in 2000.

John Welch

John J. Welch, age 88, left this world on Sunday, October 23, 2016. He went peacefully into rest at Freeman West surrounded by his immediate family.

Born on April 9, 1928 to John Joseph Welch and Louise Jarrell Welch, John was a lifelong resident of the Joplin/Redings Mill area. He attended the Redings Mill School where he finished the eighth grade, and then went on to graduate from Joplin High in 1946. He met Mary Ann Cignetti in the Joplin skating rink, fell deeply in love, and began a 67-year long marriage on August 17, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas. John and Mary were in several dance clubs in the area and were members of the Joplin Elks Club. After their marriage, John joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was baptized in 1963. John worked at R+S Chevrolet until 1950 and then went to work at Rocketdyne and Teledyne in Neosho, Missouri from 1954-1969. He then opened his own auto shop, where he worked alongside his sons, rebuilding and selling wrecked vehicles. After finally “retiring” in 1993, John continued to rebuild old classic cars and displayed them in surrounding area car shows where he won many awards and trophies.

In addition to his parents, John will be greeted in heaven by his son, Tony Welch and a granddaughter, Rachel Welch.

Surviving him are his wife, Mary (Cignetti) Welch; two sons, Mike Welch and Pat Welch and wife, Brenda; a daughter, Susan Deubler, and husband, John; grandchildren, Spencer and Kaitlyn Welch, Drew Crossland and wife, Evelyn, of Texas, Jamey Smith and wife, Kristi; one great-granddaughter, Ava Smith; and two siblings, Mary Lee DeRenzo of Sebastian, Florida, and Loren “Bud” Welch and wife, Karen Sue, of Golden, Missouri. John was a role model to anyone who met him. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He will surely continue to dance in our hearts until we are reunited with him.

Funeral services for Mr. Welch are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the mortuary.

William Kittrell

William L. Kittrell, 73, Neosho, died October 27, 2016 at NHC Healthcare in Joplin, following a sudden illness. 

 He was born February 18, 1943 in Newton County, Missouri, the son of William and Francis (Walker) Kittrell. William served in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong area resident. He was a crop and cattle farmer and enjoyed woodworking. 

William is survived by three children, Terri Wright and husband, John of Neosho, Jim Kittrell and wife, Abigail of Neosho and William Kittrell, Jr. and wife, Angie of Granby; two brothers, Steve Wood of Broken Arrow, OK and Danny Wood of Neosho; one sister, Patty Maggard of Carthage; fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. William is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jacob Wright. 

 The body has been cremated and private family services will be held at a later date. 

Cremation services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.

Garnett Taylor

Garnett L. Taylor, age 82, of Joplin, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Thursday October 27, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, following a short illness.

Garnett was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1933 in Joplin, the daughter of the late George L. and Martha Rachel (Snow) Barnard. She was a homemaker and worked various jobs throughout her life. She retired from LaBarge. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she was very active in Church activities. She was a beloved mother and grandmother.

She married Harold O’Banion on March 2, 1950. They were married for over fifty years. Harold passed away on November 1, 2001. She married Leon Taylor in 2006 and he preceded her in death on January 29, 2011. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and six brothers.
Garnett is survived by two daughters, Linda Gilstrap and her husband Bill, Joplin and Theresa Storie and her husband Tony, Joplin; one son, Harold O’Banion and his wife Marilyn, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Barnard; one sister, Connie Coleman; four grandchildren, Kelly Gilstrap, Jolene Sapp, Casey Brower, and Tyler O’Banion; five great-grandchildren, Jeseca Tourigny, Sameah Stevenson, Anslie Brower, Stella Rose O’Banion, and Violet Grace O’Banion; and one great-great grandchild, Jenson Trevor Cole Tourigny.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Rex Wakefield will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Dustin Coleman, Tony Storie, Ryan Tourigny, Tyler O’Banion, Ernie Wright, and Bill Barnard. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Gilstrap, Casey Brower, and Roger Sapp.

The family will receive friends 3-4 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung association in care of the mortuary.

Rose Martin

Rose Ann Martin, age 76 of Diamond, Missouri, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Freeman Hospital, Joplin.

Rose was born December 3, 1939 in Oakland, California to the late Oscar Ackerman and Gladys Judd Ackerman. She graduated from Diamond High School and retired as a dispatcher for Southwestern Bell and AT&T. Rose was a member of First Baptist Church of Diamond and the Diamond Improvement Group.

Surviving Rose are two sons, Dennis Cullum of Neosho and Lee Martin and wife, Lisa of Wellsville, Kansas; sister, Ruth Dunham and husband, Jack of St. Charles, Missouri; grandchildren, Derek Cullum, Cassandra Cullum, Gage Martin, Tyler Bastress and Danielle Martin; great grandchildren, Rylee Blankenship, Japrea Tumbleson, Dylan Bastress and Adalynd Phillips; numerous extended family and friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Lewis Saccanne

Lewis Albert Saccanne, Jr., 93, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at 10:20 p.m., October 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He entered the gates of Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, where he was reunited with his family members who had gone before him. He was born April 13, 1923 at Ringo, Kansas, the son of Lewis Albert Sr. and Lillie (Halliday) Saccanne. He graduated from Girard High School. Mr. Saccanne served in the United States Army Infantry in the 555th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Unit during World War II. 

On October 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marie E. O’Dell at Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2010. Mr. Saccanne worked for McNally’s Manufacturing, where he started out as a helper and worked his way up through the company until he became the Shop Supervisor at the KC Southern Shop. He was instrumental in trouble shooting and helping to start up new plants in the Coal Preparation. While working for McNally’s, they also sent him to Korea to start up a plant, and while there, he helped build a church. Membership was held in the United Presbyterian Church until they merged with the Presbyterian Church, where he was active. After moving to Joplin, he became a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. He loved to work on cars, camping and canoeing with his family, and loved to grow a huge garden, with which he shared his produce. 

Survivors include two daughters, Carol McPheeters and her husband, Dan of Joplin, MO and Debbie Blystone and her husband, Fred of Webb City, MO; five grandsons, Daniel McPheeters and his wife, Rachael, Patrick McPheeters and his fiancé, Kerstyn Middleton, Drew McPheeters, Robbie McPheeters and Matthew Blystone; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn McPheeters, Jakob McPheeters, Elijah McPheeters, Conner McPheeters, and Hunter Middleton; a nephew, Don Hull and his wife, Karen of El Dorado, KS; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Billy L. Saccanne, four brothers, Robert, George, Charles and James Sacanne, and two sisters, Mildred and Maurine Saccanne. 

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Oct. 28) at Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Charlene Wilma Garvin (Smith) 75 of Lamar, Mo passed away at Good Shepherd Nursing Home Wednesday, October 26th. 

She was born October 22, 1941 in Hammond, Indiana to Charles William Smith and Rosemarie Hartman Smith. She was the oldest of six children and left school in the 8th grade to help support the family. She married and was preceded in death by her husband Michael Burke Sr. 

She married John Garvin in Indiana. Charlene and John moved to Missouri over 20 years ago, she was previously employed at Sears & Roebuck as a salesclerk, Casey's General Store in Golden City and then as a housewife. She was a Soldier in the Salvation Army and a Minister in the Women's League, ministering and bringing joy and sharing her faith to many and guiding her family. She never missed Sunday services, not even after becoming sick and at the nursing home. 

She is survived by her husband John, of the home, daughter Rose M. Burke, Lamar, MO, son Michael Burke, Jr, Carthage, MO, 5 grandchildren; Kristin, Shlya, Justin, Nicholas and Nathon, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister Kathrine, Hammond, Indiana. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, a husband, sister Kathleyn, and 3 brothers; Robert, Michael and Charles Smith .

Annabelle Lucas

Annabelle Lucas, age 92, lifelong resident of Joplin, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at her daughter's home with family at her side.

Annabelle was born October 19, 1924 in Joplin, daughter of the late Oliver Perry West and Bertha Cellaner West. She attended Joplin Schools, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Annabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Lucas, and two great-grandsons.

She is survived by her children, Richard Lynn Lucas and wife Laurel of Spring City, Missouri, Jackie Lee Lucas and wife Nancy of Alba, Missouri, and Barbara Ann Yeisley and husband Jerry of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from Noon until 1:00 p.m.

Steve Sell

Stephen Lee Sell, age 57, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Freeman West after a sudden illness.

Steve was born December 22, 1958, son of Gerald and Mescal Sell. He worked in construction all his life as a carpenter, working for over 40 years with ZAK Construction and Repairs to Go, Inc.. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Aleda Cable Sell whom he married July 19, 1991; children, Mark Williams of Austin, Texas, Meghan Wiles of Jasper, Missouri, Stevie Sell of Springfield, Missouri, and Nicholas Sell of Joplin; parents, Gerald and Mescal Sell of Booneville, Missouri; siblings, Vaughn and Carolyn Sell of Columbia, Missouri, Donna Sell of Redondo Beach, California, Susie Roberts and Tony of Columbia, Missouri; Jeri McNair.

Memorial service will be at a later date with family and friends officiating.

Donald Sailor

Donald Byron Sailor, 73 of Joplin, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 6:13 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Donald was born May 26, 1943 in Salina, Kansas to the late Charles Byron Sailor and Janie Elizabeth Scott Sailor. He graduated from Verdugo High School in California. Immediately after school, Donald joined the Army. Donald was an over-the-road truck driver for several years. He was a member of the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club, supporting veterans all over the United States. He also was a member of Ozark Antique and Steam Engine Club of Pittsburg, Kansas.

Donald is survived by a son, James Sailor and wife, Juley of Joplin; daughter, Tammy Walker and husband, John of Carl Junction; grandchildren, James, Dakota, Cheyanne, Michael and Ethan; great grandchild, Sophia; former wife of 44 years and close friend, Cathy Sailor; brother, Larry Sailor and wife, Jo of Cambria, Wisconsin; sister, Sherry Corwin and husband, Don of Aurora, Missouri.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary, Joplin. Internment of ashes will take place at a later date in the Nashville Cemetery, Nashville, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Madison Animal Clinic of Webb City in care of the mortuary.

Edgar Miller

Edgar M. Miller, 74, Goodman, died October 25, 2016 at his home, following an illness. 

 Edgar was born July 9, 1942 in Modesto, California, the son of Frank E. and Carrie M. (Keisler) Miller. He served in the U.S. Army, October 1960 – October 1962. He moved to Goodman in 1995 from Arkansas and had worked as a painter. He enjoyed restoring vehicles, fishing, tractor pulls and he enjoyed raising his family. He was a member of the Church of the Firstborn. 

 Edgar and Connie (Perkins) were married on Jan. 27, 1963 in Springfield, Missouri and she survives. Additional survivors include five children, Curtis Miller and wife, Pam of Stella; Christina Lehar and husband, Todd of Neosho; LeAnn Presley and husband, Mike of Harrison, Arkansas; Loree Carver and husband, Todd of Victoria, Texas and DeAnna Hames and husband, Brent of Neosho; three brothers, Bill Presley and wife, Connie of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; Merle Austin and Mark Miller and wife, Kathy of Louisberg, Missouri; four sisters, Milda Hicks and husband Ralph of Macks Creeks, Missouri; Maryanna Tharp and husband, Kenny and Mavis Bassett and husband, Bill of Springfield, Missouri and Marlene Pierce and husband, Rick of Marshfield, Missouri; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Maurice and two sisters, Marilyn and Marchella. 

 Services will be Friday, Oct. 28, 2016 at 1 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Dowell Pruitt and Mark Kummings will officiate. Interment and Military Honors will follow in the Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery. Barbara McCreary Ralston, 81, of Amarillo, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016.

Barbara was born on January 9, 1935 in Webb City, MO to Kenneth and Anne Knost. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1953 and married John McCreary the same year. They lived in Joplin MO until moving to Neosho in 1955 where they lived until John passed away in 1987. While in Neosho, she worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. Smith and Dr. Porter. In 1990, she married Kenneth Ralston and they moved to Bella Vista AR, while she continued her career as a medical receptionist in Bentonville. Kenneth passed away in 2013 and she moved to Amarillo to be with family in 2014.

She is preceded in death by two husbands, John R McCreary and Kenneth W. Ralston.

Barbara is survived by two sons, John “Tony” McCreary and wife, Candy of Amarillo, TX and Jeff McCreary and wife, Terry of Bradenton, FL ; six grandchildren, Brett McCreary, Jessica Colbert, Josh McCreary, John McCreary, Matt McCreary and Jennifer McCreary; and nine great grandchildren.

Carolyn Sue Hamilton Brewer passed away October 21, 2016 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Mo. after a lengthy illness.

Carolyn was born May 20, 1945 in Granby, Mo. to Pauline and Fred Hamilton.
She lived most of her life in Carthage. She was a homemaker who enjoyed trivia, flowers, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, needle pointing, and fishing. But, most of all, she loved her family. Carolyn was a member of Kendricktown Methodist Church.

Carolyn was united in marriage to Donald Brewer on February 4, 1964 at Springfield, Mo. Donald preceded her in death on February 26, 2016.
Carolyn is survived by her mother, Pauline Denayer, of Carthage, Mo. She is also survived by her sons: Clarence (Stephanie), Kerry and Jerry and two daughters, Jennifer and Sherene (Fred). One son, Michael, preceded her in death. Grandchildren include Becky, Amanda, Taunie (Ryan), Wesley (Miya), Emalee, Clayton (Kensley), Hayden (Terri), Nick, Angelique (Joe), Ambrosha and ten great grandchildren. Other survivors are sisters Kathryn Smith and Phyllis Talley, both of Carthage; Donna Baker, Carterville; Barbara Hunziker and Connie Chrisman , both of Joplin; three brothers Dale Hamilton and Roy Hamilton, both of Carthage, and David Chrisman , Joplin; a sister, Susie Nally, preceded her in death.

A Celebration of Carolyn's Life will be held at First Christian Church, 219 Webb Street, Webb City, Mo., Tuesday, October, 25, 2016 at 4:00 PM. David Talley will officiate.

Paul Ritchhart

Paul Lester Ritchhart August 7, 1931 – October 22, 2016 

Paul was born in Jasper, and lived there many years of his life. He was a graduate of Jasper High School. His parents Lester and Irene Ritchhart raised Paul and his two brothers, Raymond and Russell, on the farm. In 1948 Paul enlisted in the Marine Corps. During the Korean war he was one of the many Marines that fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. There he was captured and held as a Prisoner of War for many months. He weighed 115 pounds when he finally made it back to the United States. He was one of the “Chosin Few”, and one of the four states heroes. He was the first life member of the Jasper VFW. He was also a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He sold his truck and retired from truck driving to his Jasper farm where he was able to live a fulfilled life of retirement. 

Paul is survived by his children Michael of Jasper, Dana (California), Byron (Nevada) and Stephanie (Arizona). He is also survived by his Brother Russell and wife Kathy. He has several grandchildren and great grandchildren. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Raymond and wife Marnie. 

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell Cemetery east of Jasper. Full military rites will be conducted.

Sib Mendicki

Scipione “Sib” J. Mendicki, 96, of Frontenac, passed away at 3:13 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, Kansas. 

He was born February 16, 1920 at Burgess, Missouri, the son of Servario and Rosa (Cipelli) Mendicki. He attended Frontenac schools and graduated from Frontenac High School. Mr. Mendicki drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and served in Patton’s 71st Division during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star and two Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged in 1946. 

On August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dorothy C. Dittman at Arma, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2013. From 1946 to 1980, he and his wife lived in Joplin, before moving back to Frontenac. Sib worked as a Sales Manager for Frank Evans Distribution in Joplin, Missouri and later for Joe Smith Tobacco in Pittsburg, Kansas. Membership was held in Frontenac United Methodist Church, V.F.W, Frontenac American Legion Post No. 43, Disabled Veterans and Poker and Pinochle clubs. 

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon K. Feagan of Carthage, MO; two grandchildren Aaron and Troy Feagan; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Sage. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, James Mendicki, a sister Jennie Mendicki, and two brothers Matt and Alfonse Mendicki. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 27) at the Frontenac United Methodist Church with Rev. Annie Ricker officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery where the Frontenac American Legion Post No. 43 will conduct graveside military rites. Memorials may be given to the Frontenac United Methodist Church, Frontenac Education Foundation or American Heart Association. Sylvia Davis

Sylvia M. Davis, 76, passed away October 20, 2016 in Carthage, Missouri. Sylvia was born January 5, 1940 in Carthage, MO to Maryland (Mert) and Hazel “Jones” Kennell. Sylvia was a retired beautician and owner of the Beauty Box II Salon. After retirement, she made and donated quilts and sponsored a child overseas. She loved playing the organ and the accordion; she loved sports, especially tennis.

Sylvia is survived by four children Doug Laney Sr., Katrina Witt (Scott), Jack Davis Jr. (Jane), and Shelly Berry (Rhett), all of Carthage, ten grandchildren Doug Laney Jr. (Becca), Autumn Laney, Jacquelyn Witt, Bruce Witt (Megan), Beau Davis, Sam Davis, Trinity Berry, Lilliana Berry, Lathe Lasiter and Caden Lasiter, eight great grandchildren Furious Laney, Bradley Holland, Atreyu Laney, Kiara Shaw, TreVaughn Shaw, Dante Witt, Easton Witt, Adalynn Witt, one brother Clifford Kennell (Patty) of Carthage. Tom Jones

William Thomas "Tom" Jones, age 64, Joplin, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.

Tom was born April 28, 1952 in Carthage, Missouri, son of Beverly K. Wilson Jones of Joplin, formerly of Hannibal, Missouri, and the late William D. Henderson. Tom was loved and raised by his mother, and adopted father, Lloyd M. Jones, who also preceded him in death. He attended school in Joplin, he had a love and gift for music, and was a very talented artist, prior to being critically injured in an automobile accident in July of 1969. Through the years Tom has been a great survivor of life, and always maintained his ability to show love to all around him.

He is survived by his mother, Beverly K. Jones of Joplin; and several cousins in Hannibal.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain David Schepper officiating.

Stephen “Steve” G. Friede, 72, Carthage, MO, passed away Thursday evening, October 20, 2016 at his home. Stephen Gordon Friede was born December 29, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to Raymond Friede and Florence (Ingram) Friede. Steve graduated from Benilde High School in Minnesota, Class of 1961. He then went on to the University of Arizona and received his BA in History. He worked as plant manager for the Motorola Plant in Joplin, MO. Steve married Mary “Sue” Smith on February 13, 1982 in Salt Lake City, UT; she survives. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters, Pamela Newman, Flagstaff, AZ, Laura Moir (husband Paul), Flagstaff, AZ, Dana Frazier, Carthage, MO, and Jeana Bartosh (husband John), Carthage, MO; one son, Steve Friede Jr. (wife Missy), Oxford, OH; two brothers, Tom Friede (wife Molly), Deephaven, MN, and Tim Friede, Chanhassen, MN; three sisters, Sue Ferron (husband Fred), Long Lake, MN, Pat Gustafson (husband Paul), Annandale, MN, and Peggy Burmaster (husband Jim), Lake Oswego, OR; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

ZaDean Hoffman

Joyce ZaDean Hoffman died on October 19, 2016 Oak Pointe, Carthage, Missouri after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 4, 1934, in Newton County, Missouri to Warren Johnson and Opal Lauener Johnson.

ZaDean grew up in the Redings Mill area of Newton County on the family farm, and graduated from Joplin High School in 1951. She started working for Empire District, Joplin, after graduation. In the summer of 1953, as she and her cousin were touring downtown Joplin in her new Plymouth convertible, ZaDean met a young military policeman, William (Bill) Hoffman of Chicago, Illinois, as he was rounding up wayward soldiers from Camp Crowder. Bill and ZaDean were married on March 7, 1954 in Joplin. They moved to Carthage in 1959.

ZaDean was busy raising her children as a stay-at-home mom but returned to work in 1970 as a bookkeeper at Miller Chrysler Plymouth, Carthage. She worked at General Irrigation in Carthage before joining the administration team at McCune-Brooks Hospital. She retired from McCune Brooks in 1999 after 25 years of service. She also assisted her husband Bill with the RV sales and service business he established prior to his retirement. After ZaDean retired, she and Bill had time to travel the world. Some of her favorite trips were those shared with her niece, Pat Grider Rodgers and her husband, Jack. ZaDean was a loving and devoted wife to Bill and a loving, conscientious mother to her four children. She especially loved being Nammaw and Grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved animals, including the pet rooster she cared for as a child, and took in several orphaned dogs and kittens over the years. She was an excellent cook and known for her chocolate chip cookies that were often sent to her children when they lived in other states. Her spaghetti and meatballs became a staple of all important family gatherings at the home. She also enjoyed bowling on the McCune Brooks bowling team for many years.

ZaDean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hoffman, her parents, her sister Ursula Grider, and her brother Lee Johnson. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Bill Hoffman and partner Maria Straus, Michele Sexton and husband Dean, David Hoffman and wife Sheila, and Julie Hoffman and wife Alicia; six grandchildren, Matthew Lonardo, Nicole Hoffman, Rachael Hoffman, Deandra Sexton, Luci Dickinson-Hoffman and Sally Dickinson-Hoffman; five great-grandchildren, Aria and Arlo Lonardo and Allison, Aimee and Nicholas Pitts; one brother, William Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23rd from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, followed by a memorial service at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday, October 24th at 9:00 am, Park Cemetery, Carthage.

Dalton Heseman

Dalton Dean Heseman, 14, of Monett, MO, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Friday evening, October 21, 2016.

Dalton was born on June 11, 2002 in Springfield, MO, son of Tim Dean Heseman and Sheri Leigh (Green) Heseman. Dalton was currently a freshman at Verona High School and was looking forward to playing baseball with the Verona Wildcats this next spring. He has always had a passion for baseball and had also played on the Monett Bears traveling team with Coach Robert Nations. Dalton was a talented basketball player, golfer, hunter and fisherman and enjoyed archery. He was a smart young man, being on the A Honor Roll, and had a wonderful and humorous personality. Dalton is survived by his parents, Tim and Sheri Heseman, of Monett; one brother, Lucas Mason Heseman, of Verona; one sister, Hannah-Jo Marie Heseman, of Monett; his grandparents, Dennis and Shirley Heseman, of Monett and David and JoNell Green, of Verona; his great-grandmother, Marie “MeMe” Marbut, of Monett; one niece, Kylee Mason and one nephew, Brik Mason, of Monett; his aunts, Shellie Green-Wilson, of Aurora, Melissa Green, of Verona, Melissa Strubberg and her husband David, of Carthage; one uncle, Travis Heseman and his wife Carrie, of Verona; one great-aunt, Gladys Nivens, of Monett; one great-uncle, Jerry “Bubbie” Marbut and his wife Pat, of Brownsville, TX; and a host of extended family and friends that will dearly miss him, but never forget him. Funeral services for Dalton will be held at New Site Baptist Church, 1925 Farm Road 1060, Monett, on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jeff Stockton will be officiating. Lawrence Lester “Les” Coppedge of Miami, OK passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Claremore Veterans Center in Claremore, OK. He was 83.

Les was born September 5, 1933 in Vinita, OK to Lawrence and Agnes (Lester) Coppedge. He was a lifetime resident of the Miami, Picher and Vinita area. He graduated from Vinita High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Real Estate Agent and Dance Instructor. He had been a member of the Picher Lions Club and was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene of Miami, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters Mary and Nancy.

Alan Reinke

Alan was the son of Dakota Reinke. He is survived by two siblings, older brother Benjamin and twin sister Abbilynn. Therese Gill

Therese Grace Gill of Southwest City, Missouri died Friday, October 14, 2016 at the age of 88. She was born on June 9, 1928 in North Wales, PA. to the late Peter and Helen Van Kleef. She resided in California for 72 years and had moved to Southwest City to live with her daughter. Growing up in North Wales, Therese lived on a farm where her father raised livestock and worked for the railroad. Her mother took in laundry. The six children worked early on to help keep the family afloat. As a youth, Therese worked for a truck farmer, selling fruits and vegetables from a horse drawn wagon. After her father died, she and her mother took the train to CA. where three of her siblings had moved.

She married James Albert Gill on August 9, 1946 in Southern CA, and to this union 4 children were born. They moved to Northern CA. 10 years later to a small farm in Shasta County. Being a true country gal, Therese populated the farm with horses, cows, hogs, chickens, goats, sheep, dogs and cats. She loved going to the livestock auction and buying newborn calves to bottle feed. In the 70's, Jim and Therese moved to a ranch in Tehama County, raising cattle, sheep and hogs on a larger scale. Raising cattle became Therese's greatest passion which lasted until her death.For 15 years Jim and Therese raised the oldest granddaughter, driving her to many horse shows, even to Oklahoma City for the National Appaloosa Show. After moving to Southwest City,

Therese enjoyed drives in the country, seeing green pastures full of cattle and hay. Checking cows with her granddaughter during this calving season was a big treat. She appreciated the beauty of McDonald County and the friendliness of the people here, making many new friends in a short time. Therese attended First Baptist Church in SWC and especially liked AWANA night and visiting with the children. She loved her family and friends and being with her great-children.



She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Gill on January 2, 1998, her infant daughter, Stephanie Ann in 1947, and 5 siblings, Anne, Mary, Helen, John and Pete.



She is survived by her children, Cynthia Ross of Southwest City, MO, Jerry Gill of Kingman, AZ, Annette Pochop of Anderson, California, grandchildren, Tisha Lewellen, Anderson, CA, Joel Cimarron of Athens, GA, Jessie Lindquist of Southwest City,Mo, , Tyler Pochop of Anderson, CA, great grandchildren Gracie Lewellen, T.J. Lewellen, Lively Cimarron, and Sydney Lindquist, sister -in-law, Jean Gill of Newport Beach, CA , her beloved canine companion, Chi Chi, and many other family members and friends.

She has been taken for cremation and no immediate services are planned.

Reed Mehrer

Reed Allen Mehrer, age 45, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.

Reed was born April 18, 1971, in Denver, Colorado, to the union of Duane and Greta Mehrer. He attended Aurora Central High School in Aurora, Colorado. Reed lived in various cities in Colorado including Greeley, Commerce City, Brighton and Lochbuie before moving to Missouri for work. He was currently working as a welder in the Joplin area. He enjoyed riding bulls and he had a genuine love for all people. Reed was always known as the jokester and he provided many laughs to others.

Survivors include his parents of Broomfield, Colorado; son, Cody Mehrer; two step-sons, Josh and Leroy; step-daughter, Christina; sister, Terrie Lane, of Denver; two brothers, Troy Mehrer of Westminster, Colorado, and Jason Mehrer of Texarkana, Arkansas; his true love, Diane; four nieces, Brittney, Amber, Morgan and Chandra; three nephews, Turner, Josh and Chuckie; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rev. Bill Newby

The Rev. William R. “Bill” Newby, 66, of Joplin, Missouri, an Episcopal Priest, departed this life into Glory on Tuesday afternoon, October 18, 2016, in the comfort of his home, after years of failing health.

Fr. Bill entered this life on September 29, 1950, in Moberly, Missouri, born to the union of the late Dr. William Russell and Janice (Brookhart) Newby. He was raised in Moberly and was a 1968 graduate of Moberly High School. He earned a B.A. in Psychology and Theatre from Central Methodist College, Fayette, Missouri, in 1972. During his years at Central Methodist, he studied with Marcel Marceau and organized a college mime group that performed around the country. After college, he directed the Deaf Education Program at Woodhaven Learning Center, where he met his wife, Deborah. During his time at Woodhaven, he also earned his M. Ed. in Counseling Psychology, graduating from the University of Missouri in 1975. He earned his M. Div. in Pastoral Counseling and Liturgics from Nashotah House, Delafield, Wisconsin, in 1983. Churches he pastored included St. James, Shreveport, Louisiana, St. John’s by the Park, Neosho, Missouri, and St. Michael’s and All Angels, South Bend, Indiana. He also served as the Associate Pastor at St. Philip’s Church, Joplin, Missouri, and at St. Stephen the Martyr in Fort Worth, Texas. For the first years of his ministry, he was the Curate at St. James in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During that time, he was the Canon Missioner to the Deaf. Fr. Bill and Deborah were married on August 9, 1975, at Calvary Church in Columbia, Missouri, and spent their lives serving God.

His parents, his father-in-law, Charles F. Million, and one brother, Kirk Newby, preceded him in death.

Fr. Bill is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Deborah Newby; two daughters, Amy Wagner and husband, Allen, of Bellevue, Nebraska, and April Dickinson and husband, Daniel, of Joplin, Missouri; five grandchildren, Caleb Wagner, Noah Dickinson, Samantha Wagner, Isaac Dickinson and Abigaile Dickinson; his mother in-law, Suzanne Million of Belleville, Kansas; as well as Deborah’s sisters Kathy Miller and Eileen Benson, brother-in-law, Blaine Miller, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Fr. Bill are 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the Joplin Family Worship Center with Pastor Daniel Wermuth officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Daniel Dickinson, Caleb Wagner, Noah Dickinson, Isaac Dickinson, Blaine Miller, and Logan Miller. A Rosary is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri, led by Joe Dumas, with visitation following from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials are being directed to Joplin Family Worship Center and contributions may be left at the mortuary.

Raymond Bresee

Raymond Eugene Bresee, age 58, Galena, Kansas, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at home after an illness. Raymond was born October 10, 1958 in Kansas to Melvin Bresee and the late Donna Weese.

Ray, an amazing husband, father, stepfather, son, brother, poppie, and friend to many, was simply a remarkable man. He was loving, caring, and hardworking. Ray was the Joplin Family Y Maintenance Director and worked full heartedly in every area of his life. He was personable to all, and everyone who met him received a nickname from him. Ray seemed to know everyone, and all who knew him was changed forever. His whole life was his kids, grandkids, and wife, and for the rest of our lives, Poppie will always be remembered.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Bresee, his son Adam Bresee and his wife Jennifer, his two daughters, Ashley Ruddell and her husband Brandon, Amber Coykendall and her husband T.J. His three stepchildren, Mark Artigo and his wife Tabitha, Brandy Jackson and her husband Brandon, Christine Crawford and fiancé Brad Laczny, and his 20 grandchildren.

Graveside services are planned for Monday, October 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin.

James Ellison

James Leon Ellison, 59, Diamond, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a battle with cancer at home in Diamond, MO on

October 21, 2016. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 02, 1957. James is the son of Fred E Ellison, Sr. and Martha Louise (Goad) Ellison.

He moved to Diamond, Mo in 1959 and Graduated from Diamond High School in 1975. He was a self-employed welder. James is survived by one son, Joe Ellison, Laura and three grandchildren of Stark City. Additional survivors, three brothers, Fred Ellison Jr, Judy, Mike Ellison, Katie; and Robert Ellison all of Diamond. Two sisters, Kathy Heckmaster, Ed, and Mary West, Avery, both of Diamond.

James was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark Ellison and a sister Barbara Ellison.

Services will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho, MO, and a visitation will follow the service. Robert Ellison will officiate. Max Everett

Amos Maxwell (Max) Everett, 82 of Joplin, MO passed away suddenly, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, on the farm where he was born in Hickory, MS where he had gone to visit with family and friends. Max was born on August 23, 1934 in Hickory, MS to Samuel Amos and Etta Jane Everett, who preceded him in death. After high school, he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Crowder in Neosho, MO where he met his wife of 59 years, Doris Faye Stipp. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for 40 years as a mechanic at Rocketdyne/Teledyne in Neosho, while also taking care of his cattle farm outside of Newtonia, MO. He retired in 1997 to pursue his true love of cattle farming until moving to Joplin in 2003. He served faithfully as a member of Granby Christian Church. Max is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Barney Everett; sister, Margie Everett; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Stipp) Howe, and brothers-in-law, Leslie Stipp and Harry Williams.

He was so loved and will be greatly missed by his survivors: wife, Doris Faye Everett; son, James Maxwell Everett and wife, Leah; daughter, Debra Jean Harwell and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Jacob Maxwell Everett, Laryssa Morgan Everett, Grant Everett Harwell and Mason Reid Harwell; sister, Joyce Williams; sister-in-law, Nancy Stipp; brother-in-law, Nolan Howe; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Steven Delmez

Steven Rene Delmez, 67, of Joplin, MO, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at his residence. 

He was born September 21, 1949, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of Rene and Wanda (Russell) Delmez. Steven attended Pittsburg schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School. He then graduated from Pittsburg State University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Steven worked for Razor West as a Territory Sales Manager and then for Tri State Outdoor as a general manager. 

On July 16, 1994, he was united in marriage to Gerry Humphrey in Pittsburg, KS. She survives at the home. Membership was held in the First Christian Church. Survivors include, a three sons, Shadd Delmez and his wife, Angela of Springfield, MO, Shane Delmez and his wife Jennifer of Webb City, MO, and a Shawn Delmez of Joplin, MO; a daughter Suzzette Delmez of Branson, MO; two step-sons, Keith Humphrey and his wife Mandy of Carl Junction, MO, and Kevin Humphrey and his wife Candice of Webb City, MO; his mother, Wanda Delmez of Pittsburg, KS; two sisters, Diana Michie and her husband Terry of Spring Hill, KS, and Kathy Dixon and her husband Charlie of Hutchinson, KS;14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (October 25) at the Brenner Mortuary with Charles Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Kathleen Holt

Arvena Kathleen Holt, age 91, of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away at 6:00 a.m. Saturday October 15, 2016, at her daughter Barbara Hatfield’s home in Carl Junction.

Kathleen was born on January 10, 1925 in Joplin the daughter of the late John and Florence (Brown) Williams. She was a longtime Joplin resident and has lived in Carl Junction for the past two years. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses having been baptized in 1975. Even in her failing health she never passed up a chance to share the Bible with anyone she could.

She married Thomas J. Holt on May 14, 1946. He passed away on February 3, 1983. She was also preceded by her son Gary Leonard; and one daughter, Judith Holt Packer; and one brother Robert Kirkman; and one sister Phyllis Hughes, and a granddaughter Tammy Beerly.

She is survived by one son, D. Louis Holt and his wife Brenda, two daughters, Barbara Holt Hatfield (husband Locky (deceased), Tomi Sue Holt Mercer and Husband Mike. Eighteen grandchildren and forty great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 22nd, 2016 at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdoms Hall in Webb City Mo. with Richard Rhea officiating. With visitation to immediately follow the service. Private family burial will be at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

C. “Lee” Henson, 58, passed away October 20, 2016 in Carthage, Missouri. 

Lee was born August 3, 1958 in Stella, Missouri to Claude Lovell Henson and Charlett Marney “Smith” Henson. He was employed by Ott’s Food in Carthage. 

Lee is survived by two daughters, Teresa and Elizabeth, two brothers, Mark Henson of wife Glenna of Oronogo and Mike Smith of Carthage, two sisters Colleen Wilson and husband Keith of Joplin and Tammy Landsaw of Webb City. Lee loved English bulldogs, fishing, race cars and his parrot, Gus. He was especially fond of the country life and playing his guitar. He was also a professional “tinkerer”.

James Hughes

James LeRoy Hughes, age 84, Neosho, passed away at 6:03 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Communities of Wildwood Ranch after an illness.

LeRoy was born July 21, 1932 in Lamar, Missouri to the late George William 'Bill' Hughes, Sr. and Icephenna Adline Kirkland Hughes and had lived in Neosho since the mid 1950's.

He worked at Rocketdyne in Neosho for several years, but was a skilled carpenter by trade and worked as an independent contractor for most of his life, building and remodeling homes.

LeRoy married Helen Marie Kaughman on August 6, 1950 in Carthage. She survives.

Additional survivors include children, Charlotte A. Rohrich and husband, Jake, Winter Haven, Florida, J. Rodney Hughes and wife, Leah, Joplin, Cynthia M. Thompson, Neosho; a brother, G.W. Hughes, Jr; a sister, Etta June Surratt and husband, Rev. Norman, Scottsdale, Arizona; ten grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, LeRoy was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Hughes and a brother, Charles Hughes.

A celebration of his life will be held in December.

Cherie Stakley

Cherie Ann Stakley left this world on October 17, 2016 following a long illness. She was born in Madison Wisconsin on April 26, 1945, and was 71 years old. Cherie loved decorating for the holidays and will always be remembered for her wonderful Christmas celebrations. She worked at the Blue Springs Walmart for 27 years, and then moved to Neosho in 2012. Recently she was a beloved resident of Springhill Assisted Living and Medicalodge of Neosho.

Cherie was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Stakley. She is survived by her sister, Charlene Cleasby of Madison, Wisconsin; two children, Connie Fortner of Neosho, MO, and Gordon Cadmus of Kansas City, Mo; four grandchildren, Angela Blaxton, Aimee Stinnett, Faith Cadmus, and Melody Cadmus; and four great grandchildren.

Private Family Memorial Service will be held.

Lawrence Wormington

Lawrence Wormington, 72, passed away October 18, 2016 in Carthage, Missouri. Lawrence was born October 23, 1943 in Purdy, Missouri to Otis and Ellen Wormington. He was a lifelong resident of Carthage and worked as a butcher for Wal-Mart. Lawrence loved horses and was a horse farrier for many years.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Loretta "Fern" Banks on October 30, 1961 in Purdy, Missouri; she survives. Lawrence is survived by two sons, Alan Wormington and wife Jinger of Jasper, Missouri and Richard Wormington and wife Juanita of Carthage, Missouri and two daughters, Micki Wormington and friend Debra Folks of Carthage and Lacy King and husband Richard of Carthage. He is also survived by one brother, Lavern Wormington of Monett, and two sisters, Rose Ellen Jones and husband Frank of Monett and Sharon Kay Wormington of Kansas.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Diyana, Dalen, Danae´, Davion, DeBardre, Deighten, Kyndal, Kylee, Ciarra, Chelsea, and Mirana and two great grandchildren: Brenley and Brexton. One brother, Efton Wormington, preceded him in death in 1994. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Jack Keith

Jack Weston Keith was born July 5, 1920, to Kenneth and Edna Keith in Coffeyville, Kansas, where he was raised and attended schools there. He passed away October 18, 2016, at Freeman Hospital in Neosho at the age of 96 years, 3 months, and 15 days.

Jack served as a navigator/gunner in the Army during WWII from 1941 until 1945. He held a variety of occupations, owning and operating a Texaco service station and working for Jensen Bros. Water Pump Division in Coffeyville, then working for REDA/TRW Water Well Division in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In the early 70’s, he operated the Mr. Swiss in Monett, then Jack’s Donut Shop, and finally worked for the city of Monett as a water well inspector until he retired at the age of 90. He was the Missouri Water Well “Man of the Year” in 2006, an honor he was so proud of.

Jack was a gentle soul, full of life, and will be remembered for his infectious smile, strong work ethic, and his love for family and animals. He loved cars, old and new; enjoyed playing and watching golf for many years, traveling and spending time on his boat. He was married to Mabel Tongier, the love of his life, for 49 years, until her passing in 1990. He was a faithful companion to Eldora Young for 17 years until her death in 2010.


He will be deeply missed by daughters, Karol Mayer (Bart) and Barbara Lyles (Bill); grandchildren, Scott Mayer (Kris), Ken Mayer (Cori), David Droegemueller (Kristi), Darren Droegemueller (Kim), and Deanne Moore (Steve); 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren. Also, special friend, Joanne Hankins, who was such a big help to Jack in his later years. The family would also like to thank Freeman Neosho Hospital for their caring staff, as well as Oak Pointe of Neosho and their caring staff.

In honor of his love of dogs and cats, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, Inc. of Neosho, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, Missouri, 64850. His wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest beside Mabel in Coffeyville Restlawn Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held later in the fall.

Ed Grundy

Edwin L. (Ed) Grundy, a lifetime Carthage resident, passed away October 17, 2016 at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.

Ed was born January 15, 1949 to the late John and Bea Heisten Grundy. A 1967 graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Ed worked at the Carthage True Value Hardware until serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968-1970.

Returning home from the service he was appointed assistant manager of the True Value store, and later was positioned as manager until 1982, after which he and his wife, Cherryl, opened and operated Grundy’s Furniture Restoration until retirement. Ed, also known as the “woodman”, for his knowledge and love of everything wood, a craftsman and an artisan he participated in many craft shows. Ed’s love for gardening was instilled in him at a young age, if he wasn’t on his tractor; he wanted to be fly fishing or at his scroll saw. Ed was a servant to the community, and was awarded the Richard M. Webster Citizen of the Year in 2011. Ed was instrumental in the beginning of the Maple Leaf Antique Car Show, cleaning and restoring Kellogg Lake, Ruby Jack Bike/Walking trail, and Kid’s Fishing Day. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church Lamar and now joins loved ones in Heaven in true praise and worship.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Cherryl Ann Kester Grundy, his Son Eddie & wife Dr. Melanie Grundy, his adored granddaughter Hannah Kaye Grundy, one brother, J.W. (Dub) Grundy and wife Marcia, brother in law Harry Kester and wife Judy, Father in law Gale G. Kester, also surviving are nieces Kim Thrasher-Dickey, Stacey Kester Chapman, nephews Mark W. Grundy, and Clifton W. Kester.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church Lamar in memory of Ed Grundy. A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held October 29, 2016, 10:30 a.m. , at the First Baptist Church Lamar, 1301 E. 6th Street, Lamar, MO, Pastor Robb Hodson officiating, reception following. Chris Beaver

Christopher Dean 'Chris' Beaver, age 45, Joplin, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 after a sudden illness.

Chris was born June 14, 1971 in Carthage to Dean and Lois Hoskins Beaver and was a lifetime area resident.

Chris graduated from Joplin High School in 1989 and had worked many years as an installer for Dean's Garage Door Center and the Garage Door Center in Joplin. In March of 2015, he and his fiancé, Jaci, took over operation of the Redings Mill Inn until August of 2016. In 2003, Chris joined the staff of the Redings Mill Fire Department as a volunteer fireman and was named Firefighter of the Year in 2004 and 2012. He was also a longtime member of Joplin Lodge #335, AF & AM.

He is survived by his children, Tyler Beaver, Shelby Beaver and Maecy Beaver, all of Joplin; his parents, Dean and Lois Beaver, Joplin; his sister, Christina Lewis and her fiancé, Ron Coffman, Joplin; grandfather, Roy Roach, Cassville; fiancé, Jaci Pancone, Joplin; niece, Morgan McLees and her husband, Justin, Diamond and great nephew, Greyland McLees.

Chris was preceded in death by grandparents, Ruth Roach and Ferman and June Beaver.

Services are planned for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate. Masonic services will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel with a visitation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Lodge #335, AF&AM or to the Redings Mill Fire Department, both in care of Parker Mortuary.
