Jim Blankenship

James ‘Jim’ Arthur Blankenship was born July 25, 1935 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Paul and Beulah (Albright) Blankenship. He entered into rest on September 5, 2019 in Neosho, Missouri, following an extended illness at the age of 84.

Jim grew up in Belle Plain, Kansas, except for four years during WW II. He then attended a one room country school and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1952. He received an Associates of Arts degree from Central Christian College in Bartlesville, OK and a BA degree from Lipscomb University, Nashville, TN and a MS degree from Pittsburg State University. He taught fifth and sixth grades for three years at Neel’s Bend School in Madison, TN, two years at Neosho High School and 28 years at Diamond High School. 

After retiring from teaching in 1989, he worked at Montgomery Ward in Joplin and from 1993 to 2000 at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Joplin. In addition, he taught photography classes at Crowder for several years during the 1990’s. Jim enjoyed traveling and visited about 28 different countries and 43 states. He was a member of the Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ.







Jim is survived by two sons, Lloyd Blankenship and Alan Blankenship; three grandchildren, Derick Blankenship, Ashley Blankenship and Brian Blankenship; six great grandchildren and a sister, Marcia Shepard. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
