Mary Charlotte Montgomery Whelchel of Commerce, OK passed from this life Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was 73.
Mary was born November 9, 1945 in Picher, OK to Robert and Kathryn (Jennings) Montgomery. She had lived in the Commerce and Picher area most of her life. Mary graduated from Picher High School Class of 1963 and from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught in Joplin Public Schools, Bluejacket Public Schools and in Richmond, MO. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapters in Picher and Miami.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Eugene Whelchel in May 25, 2018, her parents and her sister Virginia Montgomery.
Survivors include her daughter Lucinda Harris and husband Chris of Commerce, OK, 2 grandchildren Montgomery Whelchel and Chloe Harris.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Margaret Thomas will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends following the service at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Services have been placed in the care of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
