Floy “Floyd” Gene Newman, age 69 of Galena, passed away at Mercy Hospital at 6:47 PM on Friday, December 6, 2019 following a sudden illness.

Floyd was born in Berryville, AR on July 9, 1950 to the union of John Roy Newman and Eunice Marie (Miller) Newman. He had lived in Galena since 1983, moving from the Kansas City area. While in Galena, he worked as an automotive mechanic, and was also the Owner/Operator of Newman’s Electric. He was a member of the Galena Elk’s Lodge, and enjoyed fishing, watching and participating in car races, playing dice with family and friends, and was a lifelong prankster, at times to the point of being inappropriate. He loved his family, and was an avid animal lover, especially his many dogs throughout the years.

Floyd was united in marriage with Jona K. (Keyser) Newman on July 15, 1989 in Noel, MO. She survives.

Additional survivors include five sons, Michael Newman, Shane Newman (wife, Julie) of Laurie, MO, Ryan Newman (wife, Karen) of Kansas City, KS, Dustin Newman (Allison Brown) of Joplin, MO, and Lance Corporal (LCpl) John Newman, USMC, of Twentynine Palms, CA; two daughters, Lisa Barker (husband, Billy) of Miami, OK, and Brandi Beck (husband, Doug) of Galena; two brothers, Roy “Bub” Newman (wife, Shawyn) of Homosassa, FL, and Mike Newman (wife, Theresa) of Galena; one sister, Sharon Hamilton of Idaho Falls, ID; as well as 18 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eunice; as well as one brother, Troy Newman; and two sisters, Sandy Carlson and Karen Saidai.

Mr. Newman was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. Pastor Aaron Polok will officiate. 

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 6:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
