Lee Schroyer

(From Parker Mortuary)

Virgil Lee Schroyer, age 88, Joplin, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Wildwood Senior Living.

Lee was born August 10, 1931 in Bald Knob, Arkansas to the late Wendell Schroyer and Caroline Sanders Schroyer and lived in the Joplin area for the last thirty years.

At age 17, Lee enlisted in the United States Army. Lee was very proud to have served his country from 1948 to 1956. While in the Army, Lee did two tours in Korea and was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. Following his service in the Army, Lee learned how to fly an airplane and obtained his pilot’s license. Wanting to see the country, he began his career in the trucking industry. He was an owner/operator for many years and then retired from Dyno Nobel in 2005 after fifteen years of service.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling. His greatest love was his family. Getting to spend time with them and make memories with them was his greatest joy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lee married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Bradley, on November 5, 1988 in Joplin. They were married for thirty one years. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include his daughter, Connie Schroyer, Caddo Mills, Texas; two sons; step daughters, Lori Knight, Joplin, Missouri, Shelly Youngblood, Diamond, Missouri, Kathy Verhaar and husband Joe, Joplin, Missouri; sisters, Joyce and Donna; brother, Ed; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several loved nieces, nephews and family members.
