Ronnie Powell

James Ronald Powell, also known as “Ronnie” and “Jim”, age 86 of Chetopa, KS, passed away at 11:10 PM on Friday, January 10, 2020.

Ronnie was born on April 3, 1933 in Mulberry, KS to the union of Lee L. and Beulah L. Powell. He graduated from High School in Miami, OK. Ronnie worked in the shipping and receiving department for the Bartlett Coop in Oswego before retiring in the late 1990’s. He had lived in Chetopa since 2010, moving from Treece, KS. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He had been married to JoAnn McCommon, and later Treva Cupp. He married Glenda J. (Frazier) Powell on December 6, 2002.








He had three daughters, Connie Jo Feemster of Pennsylvania, Brenda Taylor of Kansas, and Katherine Hall of Oklahoma City, OK; three stepchildren, Cindy Goble of Oklahoma City, OK, Stan Smith of Tulsa, OK, and Brian Sooter of Joplin, MO; two sisters, Wanda England of Sycamore, KS, and Vonda Scholtz of Pittsburg, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Cody Powell.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Highway Tabernacle Church in Quapaw, OK. Pastor Raymond Clonts will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Sooter, Stan Smith, Sam Hagemeier, Jason England, Ty Frazier, Joe Linthicum, and Joe Cox, with honorary pallbearers being his cousins, Robert, Dick, Bill, Buck, Wayne, and Chris.

Calling hours for the family will be at the church from Noon until 2:00 PM on the day of the service. Burial will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery, rural Columbus, KS.

Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego, but Mr. Powell will be lying in state at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel per the request of the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
