Betty Samocha

Elisabeth “Betty” Samocha, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 84 on Saturday, February 8, 2020. Betty was the daughter of John and Kathryn Hartman of Detroit, Michigan. She was born in Dearborn, Michigan and graduated from Immaculata High School of Detroit in 1953.

On May 26, 1956 she married Edward Samocha at Epiphany Catholic Church in Detroit. They were blessed with four children: Joseph (Martine) Samocha, Sharon (Steve) Ketchum, Kathleen Samocha-Edmondson, and Rita (Stewart) Sabadell. 

Betty’s parents preceded her in death along with her brothers Robert and Richard Hartman. Her sister, Marie Drewek, survives her and is residing in Michigan. 








Betty leaves eleven grandchildren: Scott Ketchum, Schyler Ketchum, Kyle (Allison) Marshall, Kaitlin Samocha, Alexandr (Justine) Samocha, Chase Edmondson, Shea Ketchum, Anastasia (Ryan) Howley, Gregor Samocha, Isabel Sabadell, and Evan Sabadell.

Praying the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri. Visitation will immediately follow at 7:00 and conclude at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Joplin, MO, on Saturday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Knights of Columbus Religious Information Bureau are requested.
