Ernie Smith

Mr. Earnest Lee “Ernie” Smith, 58, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday morning, February 29, 2020, in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ernie entered this life on January 8, 1962, in Grove, Oklahoma, son of the late Elmer Lee and Joann (Carrell) Smith. He was raised and attended school in Anderson, Missouri. 

 On April 29, 1985, in Borger, Texas, he was united in marriage to Shelley Johnson and to this union three children were born. They resided in Texas until making the decision to return to Anderson in 1993. 

 Ernie worked in the field of construction for the majority of his life. For the last seven years he drove the Early Childhood School Bus for the McDonald County School District, a career he dearly loved. He was involved with Young Outdoors United and a member of First Christian Church in Anderson. Ernie was a true Outdoorsman. He cherished his family and had a heart for area children and youth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Lacey Smith.








Ernie is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Shelley Smith of the home; two sons, Nick Smith and wife, Ashley, of Joplin and E.J. Smith of Anderson; four grandchildren, Christian, Skylar, Eli and Owen; two brothers, Gene Smith and Lori Carrier of Grainola, Oklahoma and Raymond Smith and wife, Jamie, of Shidler, Oklahoma; four sisters, Donna Parsons and husband, Leslie, of Anderson, Shelia Gideon and husband, Jimmy, of Miami, Oklahoma, Debbie Gray of Miami, Oklahoma and Margaret Wagner and husband, John, of Goodman; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, March 4, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with funeral services to follow at 6:00 p.m. with John Allison officiating. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday at Pineville Cemetery. 

 Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Gene Smith, Raymond Smith, Dennis Vickers, Larry Cook, Will Drake, Brent Jay, Rick Mitchell and Leslie Parsons with Nick and E.J. Smith serving as honorary pallbearers. Memorials are being directed to Young Outdoors United c/o the funeral home.
