Leona Shockley

Leona May Shockley, age 54, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at her home after a sudden illness.

Leona was born January 29, 1966 in Gravette, Arkansas, daughter of the late Joe Dean Shockley, Sr. and Mary Delores Rowden Shockley. 

She grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from West High School in Wichita. She moved to Joplin in 1983, and worked for years as a waitress at Wyatt's, and later at Ryan's. She loved spending time with family, especially "Bubby", and reading the Daily Bread every morning. 








In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Lee Slemmer; a brother, Steve Shockley, and a sister, Hazel Marie Shockley.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristina Fontana of Neosho, Missouri; son, Calvin Slemmer of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Chenoa Fontana, Lola Fontana, and Jeffrey "Bubby" Moyer, Jr.; brothers, Joe Shockley, Jr. of Joplin, Marvin Coy of Carl Junction, Missouri; sisters, Mary Riggs and Lola May Fraughton both of Joplin; 12 nieces and nephews, and 25 great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday, August 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Howard Cemetery, Goodman, Missouri with Rev. Alan McCamey officiating, and family serving as pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
