Mike McReynolds

(From Parker Mortuary)

Michael Bradley McReynolds, age 30, Joplin, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 in his home after a short illness.

Mike was born June 3, 1983 in Wichita, Kansas to Louis and Darlene McReynolds. He was born with Spina Bifida; facing challenges all of his life. Mike always persisted in meeting each challenge. He was never looked at as disabled and his family found every way possible to give him the opportunities like any other child.

Mike participated on challenger teams, playing softball; basketball and track and field. He even got to compete in Canada for one of his track meets. He loved to play street hockey and football. Kids would tell him he couldn’t play because he was in a wheelchair, to which he would reply, ‘Let me prove it to you!’. He was given the nickname, ‘Hotwheels’ in school, and that nickname continued into his adult life.

He changed many people’s lives because of the way he lived his life. He was an inspiration to so many!

Being a part of a military family, he moved about every three years. Because of this, he amassed a large following of military friends that considered him one of their own.

Mike graduated from Carl Junction High School in 2001 and started working for Target shortly after.

Although he never had the opportunity to have children of his own, he was extremely proud of his niece, Gabby. He adored her and she brought him so much joy.

Survivors include his parents, Louis and Darlene McReynolds, Joplin; one brother, Andrew McReynolds his wife, Bridgette, and his niece, Gabby, all of Joplin; grandmothers, Wanda Roland, Joplin, Pauline Roland, Parsons, Kansas; and a host of family and friends.
