Scott Devers

Scott Alan Devers, 64, died of natural causes brought on by a respiratory infection on April 29, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was born in Joplin, Mo., on April 26, 1960, and adopted in infancy by Robert and Barbara (Smith) Devers.

Scott graduated from Joplin Parkwood High School in 1978 and the University of Arkansas in December 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in data processing and quantitative analysis. He married Debra Harper in Neosho, Mo., on July 14, 1984.

Scott and Debra moved to Dallas in 1984 where he enjoyed a 36-year career as an IT manager, a data solutions development manager, and a data scientist. His employers included Rapp Collins Worldwide, Tabs Direct, One to One Digital Solutions, OmniSYS, and IBM Watson Health. He managed the IT segments for such accounts as American Express, Continental OnePass, Hyatt Hotels, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, Mexicana Airlines, and Showtime.

Scott had a zest for life and loved sharing his experiences with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed following the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Kansas City Royals, the Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Stars. He and his youngest daughter enjoyed season tickets for the Stars for many years, as he became the “skate dad” in many rinks around Dallas. It was in the parking lot, running late to a Stars game, that he helped lead her to Christ, a story that was often told to highlight life’s and Christ’s real priorities.

Scott also liked to play tennis and golf, barbecue, make trips to the beach and the mountains, and visit as many places as he could on the Texas BBQ Trail. He was a devoted husband and father to his two daughters.

Survivors include daughters Laura (Phil) Dunson, of Ogden, Utah, and DeAnn Devers, of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren – Leonidas, Peter, Lydia, and Phinehas Dunson. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Scott attended Forest Park Baptist Church while growing up in Joplin and various Baptist churches in the Dallas area. He served the AWANA ministry in the greater DWF area faithfully for many years. His daughters were raised in a Christian home, and Scott would often read scriptures and pray with them.

Burial will take place June 10 in Harris County Eastgate Cemetery in Crosby, Texas.
