(From Derfelt Funeral Home)David Robert Scott, 80, moved from his home in Galena Ks to Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 7:46 pm. Sunday, November 2, 2025. David lived a full, blessed life and was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
David was born March 31, 1945, in Joplin, MO. He was the son of Robert L. (Bob) and Inas Marie Scott. Bob was the president of the school board in Galena, for many years.
David graduated from Galena High School in 1963. He worked at Gulf Oil for 10 years and then he became a dock supervisor at Yellow Freight for 25 years.
David was involved in the community for years. David was on the Galena Fire Department for 25 years., He was a board member for the Farmers CO OP, and on the board of the Farm Bureau Along with board member of the FSA. He was one of the starting members of the Cherokee County Bow Hunters association. David was a cattle rancher, raising cattle and putting on team roping and cattle penning events in the county. It was a huge part of his and his family’s life.
David was a member of James River Church Joplin MO. He and his wife Dale Served on the hosting team at the church. Sharing Jesus and God’s love was his number one heartfelt desire for others
David married his best friend, Dale Maher on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 1963, in Webb City, MO. She resides at the home.
Together, David and Dale were blessed with 3 children, Shaine (wife Cindy), Jacqui, and Jinjer; 8 grandchildren Vanessa Scott, Shaine Curtis and Danielle Scott, Courtney and Buddy Munch, Seth and Theresa Wheelen, Danielle Murphy, Shiloh and Bekah Murphy, Whitney Scott and JC Pugsley and Kenzie; Great-grandchildren, Levi, Cheyenne, Hailee, Raelee, Taytum and Wyatt, David and Haley, Nolan and Rylee, Addy, Lily, Raegan, Jules, Skye, Duke; Great-great Grands are Brenlee, Brody, Sawyer, and Charlotte. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, John Scott and sister, Sherry Tierney (husband Paul) along with nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be at 10:00 am, Monday, November 10, 2025, at James River Church, Joplin, MO. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor Justin Jahanshir will officiate.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Season of Giving at James River Church Joplin MO.
