(From Clark Funeral Home)Marvin Hugh Ackerson, age 95, passed peacefully on June 7, 2026, in Neosho, MO. Marvin was born In Alamont, KS on March 2, 1931, to Henry Hugh Ackerson and Grace Ackerson.
Marvin graduated from Parsons High School in 1949 and continued his education at Parsons Junior College. Next, he served in the Navy for four years on the USS Radford. Following that, he went to Pitt State where he played proudly for the football team, earning All-American and Hall of Fame honors. Lastly, he graduated from Kansas State University in 1959 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Marvin worked in the Aerospace Industry, first working at Rocketdyne (1959-1963), then McDonnell Douglas (1963-1966). He worked on the Gemini Space Program that supported the Apollo moon mission. Following that, he was employed at Teledyne and Pitt Plastics. He retired in 1985.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, training black labs, and attending both Pitt State Football games and his grandchildren’s athletic events in both high school and college.
Marvin is survived by Patricia Ann Thomas, whom he married in 1957, two daughters, Lori Brock (Skip) and Kristi Ackerson, and three grandchildren, Matthew Brock (Sheryl), Abi Copeland (James), and Tomas Brock (Abby). He was the great-grandfather to ten. Both in-laws, Wayne and Mary Kay Wiley survive him, as well as eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters Virginia Moss, Evelyn Chapman, Dorothy Clark, as well as a nephew, Marshall Hugh Moss.
Services will be held on Friday, June 12th, 2026, at 10am at Clark Funeral Home. Burial will be at Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Marvin may be made to Pittsburg State Foundation attn: Football Fund.
