Sandra L. Goettel, 75, Joplin, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Landmark Hospital, Joplin. Sandra Lynn McCoy was born on July 23, 1939 in Atchison, KS; the daughter of the late Harold McCoy and Wiletta (Ward) McCoy. Sandy attended Carthage High School and was a proud member of the class of 1957. She owned her own bakery in New Jersey. She then moved to Huntsville, AL and went into real estate sales. She married Kenny Goettel on December 14, 1997 in Huntsville, AL, while getting reacquainted at their 40th class reunion. They moved to Joplin in October of 2004. Sandra was the past president of the Joplin Service Club for the Blind for four years.
She is survived by her husband Ken; step mother, Jean Logan, Nixa, MO; five children, Brent (Jennifer) Sherman, Huntsville, AL, Mark (Andrea) Goettel, Huntsville, AL, Wayne (Christi) Goettel, Carthage, MO, Kendra Goettel, Carthage, MO, and Kirk (Deana) Goettel, Joplin, MO; one brother, Harold “Mac” McCoy, Jefferson City, MO; and eleven grandchildren who were the love of Nana and Gma’s life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Leigh Sherman.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 PM, Monday, March 16 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 17 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel, Carthage. Interment will follow at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Joplin Service Club for the Blind in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut Street, Carthage, MO 64836.
