Mrs. Carmen Sue Howard, 75, of Jasper, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, November 16, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a sudden illness.
Carmen entered this life on March 28, 1940, in Carthage, Missouri, to the late Charles and Imogene (Cunningham) Young. She resided in Reeds, Missouri, before moving with her family to Alba in the early 1950’s. She graduated from Alba High School in 1958 and on January 30, 1959, in Purcell, Missouri, she was united in marriage to William F. Howard and to this union six children were born. Besides being a hardworking and devoted homemaker, Carmen also worked in the field of home healthcare and was a data processor at the former Newman’s Department Store in Joplin. She was a longtime faithful member of Purcell Baptist Church. Carmen enjoyed reading her Bible, attending church activities, family functions and visiting with her friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Wade Howard; and two siblings, Helen and Pat Young.
Carmen is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, William Howard of the home; five children, Jeff Howard and Sibyl Link of Webb City, Missouri, Cara Barney and husband, Nathan, of Jasper, Missouri, Greg Howard and wife, Rita, also of Jasper, Brad Howard and wife, Terri, of Webb City and David Howard and wife, Becky, of Carterville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; three brothers, Andy Young of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, Ed Young and George Young both of Clinton, Missouri; four sisters, Betty Warden of Carthage, Jean Campbell of LaRussell, Judy Brown of Mt. Vernon and Mary Miller of Bolivar; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Howard are 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Purcell Baptist Church in Purcell, Missouri with Bro. Kevin Melton and Ted Atnip officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Webb City, Missouri, with Jeremy Cabalero, Cory Howard, Tyler Howard, Zachary Howard, Royce Clark, Dalton Watkins and Dominick Howard serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through our website www.hedgelewis.com.
