David Freeman Gillespie, 69 of Joplin, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 following a short illness.
David was born September 29, 1946 in Joplin to the late Burt Gillespie and Velma Moser Root. He was a laborer in the construction business most of his life. David was a past president of Construction and General Laborers Local Union 319 for over 20 years. David served in the Missouri National Guard. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Joplin.
David married Paula J. Smith in 1976 in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Adam Gillespie and wife, Amy of Laneville, Texas; grandkids, Gabrielle, Jordan and Jake Gillespie; sisters, Donna Fortner of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kristi Henderson of Claremore, Oklahoma and Jill Childs of Joplin; nieces, Sara Bybee and Autum Thomas; nephew, Austin Bybee.
David is preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Lee Gillespie.
Services will be held Sunday, November 15th at 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. David will be taken for cremation following the service.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
