Virginia L. Summers, age 98, of Webb City, Missouri passed away Monday, November 30, 2015 in Lee's Summit, Missouri following an illness.
She was born November 26, 1917 in Webb City, Missouri to Patrick and Rosa (Johnson) Hargis.
Virginia was employed with the Webb City R-7 School District as an administrative assistant. During her years working in the school district she also worked in the cafeteria and the office of Webster Elementary School, as well as being a truancy officer. She and her husband operated several different movie theaters in many of the small area towns prior to the television era.
She married Charles Summers on January 30, 1937 and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2015. She was also preceded in death by two daughters; Patricia Summers and Cynthia Moss, three brothers; Dolph Hargis, Dean Hargis and Cecil Hargis, and two sisters; Geneva LePage and Jeannette Keys.
Virginia is survived by one son, Lance Summers and wife, Debra, Kansas City, Missouri, two daughters; Sandra Ball and husband, Donald, Kansas City, Missouri, Debra Hernandez, Parker, Texas, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Lambeth officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Those gentlemen honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Sgt. Joshua Summers, Chris Summers, Dan Ball, Leland Hernandez, Jeff Moss, Joseph James, and honorary pallbearer, Evan Summers.
