Walter Gibson

Walter O. Gibson, age 104, Carthage, Mo., passed away on January 7, 2019, at his home, following a wonderful fulfilled life.

Walter was born on August 31, 1914 in Joplin, the son of the late John and Carrie Eudora (Moyer) Gibson. Walter married Almeda Whyte in 1936 and together they had five children. He worked as a journeyman for Rogers Iron later known as Rexnord. He was certainly a Jack of all trades. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, trotline fishing, traveling and music shows.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Almeda Gibson in 1993, and by one son, Scott Gibson in 1947. He married Hazel J. Utter in 1996 and she preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lorene Gailey, Lola Cooper, Grace Counts, and Reba Hunter.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Gibson and wife Treva, Joplin, Mo.; Ronnie Gibson and wife Linda, Carthage, Mo.; and Jeff Gibson, Durant, Ok.; one daughter, Rita Frazier and husband Rod, Joplin, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Amber Williams, Durant, Ok., DeWayne Gibson, Joplin, Mo., David Gibson, Joplin, Mo., Bryan Gibson, Webb City, Mo., Robin Fuller, Joplin, Mo., Russell Gibson, Woodland, Tx.; Kelly Whetston, Berryville, Ar.; Tammy Moore, Berryville, Ar., and Daniel Frazier, Joplin, Mo.; 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.




Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Jim Poland will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to the Carthage Church of Christ in care of the mortuary.
