Douglas Warren Murray, age 66, Joplin MO, went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2019 after being at Freeman West Hospital for 10 days. Doug was born March 1, 1953 in Waverly, Missouri to the late Floyd Orville Murray and Helen Martha Ann Parker Murray. Doug was the youngest of six children.
Doug graduated from University of Missouri, Kansas City with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Most of Doug’s career has been as a case manager for developmentally disabled. He assisted all of his clients to live a more independent life. Positions he held were a case manager at Higginsville State School, Live-In Teaching Counselor for Concerned Care, Inc., KC, and Case Manager at KC Regional Center and at Truman Medical Center, East, KC. He also worked as a claims specialist for the KC Social Security Administration. His most recent position was for 10-years as a Case Manager with Connections Case Management in Joplin, MO.
Doug loved to watch NFL and college football with friends and family. He was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan for 59 years. His family and friends are in hopes that he will be able to pull some strings in Heaven to pull out a KC Chiefs Super Bowl win soon. He also was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan on behalf of his marriage to an Okie girl.
Doug enjoyed fishing, grilling, cooking, and watching sci-fi movies with friends and family. Throughout his life, he has enjoyed attending multiple Rock and Roll and contemporary Christian music concerts. He also was an avid reader. He loved playing card games and dominos with friends and family. He also loved competing with his wife, Nancy, while they watched jeopardy in the evenings, keeping track of their scores and usually beating her.
Doug faithfully attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with the crazy members of his small group at St. Paul’s. He loved his family with all his heart evidenced by the wisdom He shared with them, award winning chili and grilled foods he made for them, and the way He listened and cared for their needs. Everyone who had the privilege to know Doug will greatly miss his sense of humor, listening ear, words of wisdom, delicious cooking, and fun personality.
In addition to his parents; his first wife, Bonnie Moore (Murray); and three of his brothers, Orville, James Arthur, and Parker Murray all preceded him in death.
He married Nancy Myers (Murray), his Cubby Bear, on September 13, 2003 in Hollister, Missouri on Table Rock Lake. She survives at their home in Joplin, MO.
Additional survivors include two devoted daughters, Kara Murray and Elizabeth Murray, in KC, MO; a son, Brad Fairley, in Wichita, KS; a sister, Maxine Johnson, in San Diego, CA; and a brother, Wilbur Murray, in Texas City, TX.
A celebration of Doug’s life is planned for Friday, May 17 at 2 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2423 W. 26th St., Joplin MO.

*RKMissions is an organization facilitating the mission endeavors of the Harryman family serving the Lord in Central Mexico. They are serving the needs of the “circle of silence” where less than 2% of the population is Christian. Rob and Kathryn along with their five children, and other volunteers, minister through mercy ministries, evangelism, and training of pastors in a Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Base and Bible Institute.
