Wa Chao Thao was born on August 12, 1939 in the village of Thooj Pha, Laos. Wa Chao’s parents are Chong Neng Thao and Va Xiong. Wa Chao has an older brother Chai Cha Thao (Laos) and four sisters: Ye Thao (Laos), Bee Thao (Laos), Mai Thao (Laos), and Kaying Thao (Merced, California).
Wa Chao married his wife MaiLia Yang in 1970 in Pham Qhov, Laos. Together, they have four sons and three daughters. Sons: Singkeo Thao – Spouse. Ka Vang (Madison, Wisconsin), Boon Pha Thao – Spouse. Mai Lor Vang (Wentworth, Missouri), Thong Thao – Spouse. Pachia Lor (Monett, Missouri), and Khamla Thao – Spouse. PaWoua Vang (Sun Prairie, Wisconsin). Daughters: PaHoua Thao – Spouse. Neng Wa Xiong, (Minneapolis, Minnesota), PaDao Thao – Spouse. OuKham Yang (Monett, Missouri), and PaNhia Thao – Spouse. Lue Vang (Madison, Wisconsin).
Growing up, Wa Chao has lived in Huab Xab, Xeev Khaum, Pham Qhov, Xev Xoob, Nam Muas, Tiaj Kuj Yem, and Khem 3 all residing in the country of Laos.
During his young adulthood, he joined the Lao National Army combating in the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1975. After the loss of the Vietnam War, in 1988, he moved his family to reside in the Refugee Camps of Thailand: Vib Nais NaPho, and Phanat Nikhom.
In December of 1992, Wa Chao and his family came to the United States of America and resided in Madison, Wisconsin. After living in Wisconsin for 15 years battling with the cold weather, in June 2007, the family decided to move down to live in Missouri, a much warmer place, a country life-style, and a place they can finally call home.
On Friday, March 20, 2020, Wa Chao suffered a sudden heart attack. He left behind his wife whom he has married for 50 years, all seven married children, 28 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
