Helen Alumbaugh

Mrs. Helen May Alumbaugh, 73, of Caney, Kansas, departed this life on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, after a recent decline in health.

Helen entered this life on February 8, 1947, in Nevada, Missouri, born to the late Robert and Doris (Garrett) Spainhoward. Her formative years were spent in Nevada and Joplin, Missouri. 

On September 8, 1962, in Miami, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Lester Alumbaugh, Sr. and together they shared fifty-three years before his passing on January 2, 2016. They resided in Seattle, Washington, Wichita, Kansas and Augusta, Kansas before moving to Caney, Kansas. Helen was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed sewing and quilting projects. She was of the Baptist faith. 








She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Alumbaugh, Sr.; and one brother, Robert Spainhoward, Jr.

Helen is survived by her six children, Lester Alumbaugh, Jr. (Natalie) of Edna, Kansas, Rob Alumbaugh (Dorothy) of Lake Whitney, Texas, Rayvenna Jo Beaver (John) of Elk City, Kansas, Louwellen Shaffer (Sam) of Wichita, Kansas, Terra Sue Alumbaugh of Spokane, Washington and Brandi Leigh Alumbaugh of Tomball, Texas; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Spainhoward of Caney, Kansas; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri, with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating, Burial will follow in Osborne Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Lester Alumbaugh, Rob Alumbaugh, Samuel L. Shaffer, Samuel M. Shaffer, Brandon Prather and Steven Shaffer. The family will receive friends on Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
