Ruthie Wammack

Della Ruth Wammack, age 85, passed away at 5:35 am, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO.

Della was born September 3, 1938, in Mineola, TX. Her parents were Henry Davis and Gertrude Anner Willingham.

As a longtime fixture of Galena, well known as “Miss Ruth” The head-start bus driver.

In 1954, in Childers Tx. Ruth married her lifelong partner, Marvin Wammack (who preceded her in death).Moving to Galena around 1958. Together raising 3 children. Sharon 68, David 65, both of Galena Ks and Roy 59 of Carthage Mo.

Ruthie’s Siblings were Edward Willingham, Billy Willingham, Lorene Blaylock, Pearlie Blaylock, Dorothy Moore, Marie Hollingsworth, and Dovie Hayes. They have all preceded her in death.

Ruth enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her 7 Grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Ruthie’s pastime was laying out in the sun and going to garage sales. While driving around town she never met a stranger. She would often proudly proclaim “Oh I drove him on the school bus! Or “I drove her daddy on the school bus!” Everyone loved Miss Ruth and will more than likely, remember her with her long black braids.

She will be missed by her children and her entire family as well as her community, that she loved so much!

The family invites all that would like to attend Services for Miss Ruth to Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena. KS on Friday Sept 6,at 2:00 pm under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
