Theodore Jeffers

Theodore Jeffers, age 100, departed this life peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Joplin, Missouri. He entered this life on February 26, 1924 in Bucklin, Kansas, one of six children born to the late Walter and Grace (Huddleston) Jeffers.

Theodore was a lifelong area resident of Joplin, Missouri. He served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Army during World War II. After receiving an honorable and highly decorated discharge in February of 1946, he returned home to Joplin, where he met and married his first wife, Helen and to this union five children were born.






Theodore’s commitment to his work was evident in his long career at Eagle Picher, where he dedicated thirty years before retiring in 1978. After retirement, Theodore continued to contribute to his community through his involvement with the Joplin Association of the Blind, where he served as a board member, a passionate volunteer, and a van driver, helping others navigate their lives with greater ease.

Beyond his professional and volunteer endeavors, Ted found joy in the art of woodworking. His hands skillfully crafted pieces that were not only functional but also carried the warmth of his touch. His creations became cherished heirlooms, symbolizing the care and attention he put into every aspect of his life.








He is survived by his four children, Darlene Rodriguez of Joplin, Barbara York of Webb City, Norma Hampton and her husband Rick of Overland Park, Kansas, and David Jeffers and his wife Ruth of Joplin. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and thirty-one great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Helen Jeffers; second wife, Edna Jeffers; a son, Reynolds Jeffers; four brothers, Jack, Joe, Don and Glen Jeffers; and a sister, Christine Hunt.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin with Pastor Keith Overmeyer officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are David B. Jeffers, Larry Jeffers, Brian Hampton, Andrew Daniels, Timmothy Hampton and Nick Brand. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20th in the mortuary chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
