Roger Thornton

Roger Royce Thornton, Sr., age 71, of Carthage, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday April 12, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, due to complications from heart surgery. He entered this life on December 8, 1953, in Joplin, Missouri, born to the union of the late Jack Leon Thornton, Sr. and Treva (Lowry) Thornton.

He was raised in Carl Junction, Missouri and was a 1972 graduate of Carl Junction High School. Roger's work ethic was unmatched, which was clearly seen in his long-standing career as a Master Tech with Leggett & Platt, where he devoted nearly 50 years of service.








Roger's love for the outdoors was more than a hobby; it was a way of life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found peace and joy in the serenity of nature. His knowledge of the woods and waters was vast.

He is survived by his four sons, Roger Thornton, Jr. of Carthage, Missouri, Kris Thornton of Carl Junction, Missouri, Eric Thornton of Carthage, Missouri and Zach Thornton of Joplin, Missouri; daughter, Tina Thornsbrough of Carthage, Missouri; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Leon Thornton, Jr. of Carthage, Missouri and Kenny Thornton also of Carthage; two sisters, Vicki Turner of Carterville, Missouri and Kim Eimer of Carl Junction, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri with Joe Turner officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the mortuary chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
