(From Holt Memorial Chapel)Marla Gaye Phillips, 66, of Harrison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.
Marla was born on February 10, 1959, in Joplin, Missouri, to Leo Riggs and Shirley Schrader. She grew up with strong family values and a warm, giving heart—qualities that would define her life and legacy. On December 11, 1982, Marla married the love of her life, James Phillips, in Harrison. Their partnership was one of unwavering love, deep respect, and shared joy that lasted over four decades.
Marla was a proud graduate of North Arkansas College, where she earned an associate’s degree in business. She went on to devote 30 years of dedicated service as an Administrative Assistant at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, where her kindness, professionalism, and gentle spirit touched the lives of countless coworkers and patients. Outside of her career, Marla found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to swim and take long, peaceful walks on the beach. She was an avid reader who especially enjoyed mystery novels, and she cherished every moment spent with her family. Her love and devotion were evident in her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Marla is preceded in death by her beloved parents and her son-in-law, Josh Merrick.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James Phillips of Harrison; one daughter, Ashley Merrick of Harrison; her treasured grandson, Luke Merrick, also of Harrison; and two sisters, Cheryl (Johnny) Estes of Harrison, and Traci (Scott) Phillips of Joplin. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at Maple Leaf cemetery with the Rev. Heath Kirkpatrick officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Holt Memorial Chapel.
