Becky Maxwell

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Rebecca Lou (Gregory) Maxwell, known to family and friends as Becky, of Joplin, Missouri, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August,18, 2025, at the age of 88.

Becky was born on November 7, 1936, in Franklin, Kentucky. She was the daughter of John and Lillie (Pirtle) Gregory, both of whom, along with her seven siblings, preceded her in death. She grew up in a Christian home where her parents faithfully raised her to know and love Jesus. At just nine years old, she gave her life to Christ at a Missionary Baptist Church altar, beginning a lifelong walk with Him that shaped her character, her family, and her legacy.

On August 29, 1954, Becky married William E. “Bill” Maxwell, the love of her life. Their marriage lasted 65 years until Bill’s passing in 2020. Those who knew them often remarked they had never seen a couple love each other more. They enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family and friends. Their shared faith and devotion to one another was a testimony of God’s grace.

Becky was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She faithfully taught Sunday school for many years, especially children’s classes, where her warmth and love for Scripture touched countless young hearts. She loved reading, walking, and watching sunsets. She found joy in gardening and made many quilts for the births of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Darrell G. Maxwell (Jeannie) of Joplin, Missouri and Mark A. Maxwell (Phyllis) of Hazelwood, Missouri, and by her daughter-in-law Kim Maxwell of Salem, Oregon. She was the proud grandmother of ten: Greg (Holly), Christy (Randy), Amy (David), Charlotte (Jason), Sara (Tom), Bryan, Andrew (Andrea), Marie (Nathan), Emily (Mitch), and Joshua (Olaf). She was further blessed with 25 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. She also shared a special lifelong bond with her niece Cathy Ross, who lived with the family for a time and always remained close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. “Bill” Maxwell, and her son, C. Dale Maxwell.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now with her Savior, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Becky’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

A visitation will be held at Diamond Baptist Church in Diamond, Missouri, on August 30, 2025 at 9:30am, followed by a funeral service at 10:30am. Jim Law will officiate. A burial will be held at Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 11:00am at Allhands Cemetery in Oakwood, Illinois.

Services will be under the care and direction of Clark Funeral Homes.
