Bob Merritt

(From Knell Mortuary)

Robert Joseph Merritt, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, 78, Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at his home. He was born on February 10, 1947, in Aurora, Missouri, the son of the late Katherine (Baker) Merritt. Bob's journey through life was marked by his creative spirit, thoughtful nature, and loving heart.

Bob's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Pierce City, Missouri, and he graduated from McAuley High School in Joplin, in 1965. His education laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication. Bob's career path led him to become a skilled tool salesman and a proficient mechanic for Walmart and Goodyear in Kansas City, Missouri. His most recent role as head of maintenance for St. Ann's Catholic Church in Carthage allowed him to serve his community with his hands and his heart.

A man of faith, Bob was a 4th degree Knight and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9190 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Carthage. His commitment to his faith community was unwavering and reflected in his everyday actions. Bob's interests extended beyond his work and service; he was an avid fisherman and hunter, reveling in the beauty of nature and the thrill of the catch. His love for woodworking and crafting was more than a hobby—it was a way for him to express his creativity and share his talents with those he loved.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Kathy Merritt, who stood by his side in every chapter of their shared life; his siblings, Mary Ruggiero (Len), Carthage, Jim Merritt (Alice), Las Vegas, Nevada, his twin brother, Don Merritt (Susan), Carmel, Indiana, and John Merritt, Bettendorf, Iowa; and his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many extended family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
