Darrel Jeffries

Darrel Dwayne Jeffries passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Mount Vernon, Missouri, at Bel Oak in Mount Vernon. He was 89 years old. 

Darrel was born on August 21, 1935, the son of Herschel Harrison and Geraldine (Barnett) Jeffries. He married Carol Ann Todd on May 17, 1958, in Stockton, MO. “Darrel, my love,” as was written on the back of a picture of him in her wallet, exemplified the story of their fifty-six-year marriage. Darrel was a proud member of the Missouri Army National Guard for a little over eight years. They lived in Lamar, MO until they moved to Miami, Oklahoma in 1975. 






He worked for years as a sewing machine mechanic at Haywood Manufacturing, which was sold to Aalfs Manufacturing, and then worked for Yellow Freight. Darrel was an avid guitar player and would spend time in his retirement playing with a group of other musicians at local nursing homes. Darrel was preceded in passing by his wife, Carol Jeffries, his parents, a son-in-law, Danny Bales, grandson-in-law Jason Bryant, and his sister Joyce Davis.

Darrel is survived by a daughter, Sandy Bales, and son-in-law, Charles Kaprolet, of Ormond Beach, Florida, and a son, Kevin Jeffries, and daughter-in-law, Teresa Jeffries, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Rochelle Sharbutt and husband Jake of Miami; and Crystal Bryant, of Clayton, North Carolina, along with three great-grandchildren, Victoria and Dani Bryant, and Ava Sharbutt.








Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Glen Abbey Memorial Garden in Miami, with Pastor Jake Wood officiating. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #146 Funeral Honors Team. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial Contributions be made to Phoenix Home Care and Hospice, 2613 S Main St, Suite C, Joplin, MO 64804.
