Timothy Counts

(From Parker Mortuary)

Timothy Rufus Counts, age 74, of Joplin, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.

Timothy was born on September 27, 1950 in Monett, MO, son of the late Homer R. Counts and Meda E. (Boillot) Counts. He graduated from MSSC in 1972 with his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. He then went on to work as a Senior Product Development Engineer at Eagle Picher from 1982 until retiring in 2015.

He was a man who found solace in the quiet moments, whether it was while aiming for a clay target in the skeet shooting field or while immersed in the pages of a good book. His natural ability and steady hand earned him several awards at skeet competitions, a testament to his focus and determination. Timothy was a collector of many things, but his stamp collection was particularly close to his heart. He was an active member of the Joplin Stamp Club. His love for reading was another cornerstone of his life, collecting a wide range of books. He also had a hobby of collecting different color schemes of marbles. Timothy’s legacy is one of joy, passion, and the quiet pursuit of excellence.

In addition to his parents, Timothy was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Severs.

Timothy is survived by his two nieces, Susan Phillips and husband Robert, and Michelle Tichenor and husband, Dave, of Joplin; one nephew, Gene Severs, of Joplin; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Private Graveside Services will be held by the family at a later date.
