Carol Holmes

Carol Rae Holmes, age 80, of Oswego, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Oswego Health and Rehab.

Carol was born December 11, 1944, in Columbus, Kansas to the late Orville and Letha Spencer. She was an accountant by trade. She was united in marriage to Wayne L. Holmes on February 22, 1964, in Oswego, Kansas; to that union were born two children. Traveling to Branson was a favorite pastime of hers, and she was always on the go. Her hobbies included cross-stitch and sewing.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, and three brothers: Neal Spencer, Donnie Spencer, and Ray Spencer.

She is survived by her two children: Kimberly Stone (husband Steve) of Oswego, KS, and Dustin Holmes (wife Tara) of Lockwood, MO; two grandchildren: Khalil Holmes of Joplin, Missouri, and Autumn Stone of Pittsburg, KS; one brother Bill Spencer; one brother-in-law Lloyd Holmes; two sisters-in law: Judy Coburn, and Jean Tullis; as well as a host of nieces of nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego, KS, and will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Labette Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.
