Imogene Kaughman

Imogene Kaughman, age 96, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 9:30 pm while staying with her grandson in Branson, Missouri. She had a stroke the morning

of Monday, September 22, 2025, and declined over the next three weeks. She was the fourth child of six and the daughter of Walter Monroe Hartley and Ruth Hannah (Dintaman) Hartley also of Carthage.

Her 5 siblings were: Fern, Maxine, Annabelle, Lloyd and Donna Ruth. She and Donna Ruth were born on the same day of the week (Sunday) six years apart. They also died on the same day

(Sunday) 16 years apart. Both of their youngest daughters were at their bedsides, holding their hands as they passed away. Both daughters’ names start with an "S” This is too much

of a coincidence to be dismissed. Mrs. Kaughman was a lifelong resident of Carthage and worked 24 years as a bank teller with Bank of Carthage and then Bank of America, in Carthage.

She was a very stylish lady and took pride in her appearance and her work ethic. She would "balance to the penny" every day before she would leave her job. She loved working there. She retired in 1989 and missed it every day. 

 Her social connections were important to her, but her family was first and foremost in her life. She relished spending time with each member of her family and in retirement, loved to read, travel, enjoy going to movies and live theater shows in Branson where her grandson Adam was a performer. She also loved her coffee and ice cream!

Imogene married Charles E. Kaughman, Sr., on May 15, 1948. To this union three children were born: Charles E. Kaughman, Jr, Connie Sue Kaughman, (Dr. Roy Henry) and Sara Jane Kaughman (Dennis Ritchhart) Charles Jr passed away on July 17, 2022. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Cory and Eric Kaughman, Brian, Brandon, Adam Henry, Aaron, Devin,  and Deidra as well as Travis, Daniel, and Trisha Ritchhart. Imogene is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.



Funeral services will be under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be in Fasken Cemetery, east of Carthage on 96 Highway. Graveside rights will follow. Pastor Steve Strafford of the Risen Ranch Cowboy Church will officiate.
