(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Mary Elizabeth Nutting Robinson of Galena, Kansas was born March 17, 1955, defeated death, and entered the arms of Jesus on October 16th, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mary was born in Joplin, MO to parents, Pastor Robert Lester Nutting and Martha Ruth Nutting. Mary was always full of music, singing with her brother and sister as part of the Nutting Trio Gospel group and acting in countless musicals and plays, including one she wrote, The Chosen, which she performed annually at regional churches. She also sang with the King’s Kids quartet alongside husband, Dave, and dear friends, Sharon and Larry Cannon.
Mary dedicated her career to education, earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from MSSU, and teaching at Riverton Elementary for 27 years where she continued Ruby Dehart’s tradition of the kindergarten “circus” for much of that time. Additionally, Mary possessed an incredible talent for animal imitations and earned the nickname “Chicken Mary” for her especially accurate fowl impression.
Mary married Robert Dave Robinson in 1975, their union an incredible example of self-sacrificial love and devotion to both Christ and each other. They were partners in ministry for 47 years and celebrated their 50 year anniversary this February. Most notably, they pastored Tennessee Prairie Church in Galena, Kansas for 45 years where Mary led the music and played the piano. She shared countless hugs and kisses with her church family, rejoicing with those who rejoiced, and mourning with those who mourned. She spent much time as a member of Jews for Jesus, lobbied in Washington D.C. as a member of Christians United for Israel, and traveled to Israel with Zola Levitt ministries who later recruited her to lead tours to the Holy Land.
Mary Elizabeth Robinson was a devoted mother to and survived by sons, Robert Jason Robinson (Branson, MO) and Jamison Scott Robinson (Long Island City, NY), daughter-in-law, Katie Rae Robinson, her grandsons, Emerson Scott Robinson, and Rowan David Robinson, granddaughter, Lila Rae Robinson, and son-in law, Howie Michael Smith. She was so incredibly proud of her family, and she loved them generously and whole-heartedly. Additionally, she is survived by her loving family, brother Robert Nutting and his wife Beckey, sister-in-law Kathy Shears, brother-in-law Bernie Bollinger, and her nieces and nephews, Darlena, Tammy and John, Kim and Everett, Robert and Laura, Cindy and Ben, and Shannon and Brandon.

Nothing in life was more important to Mary than spreading the love of Jesus and leading people to accept Him as Lord and Savior. She was a servant-hearted woman of God that gave her all to minister in the name of Jesus. She was full of joy, laughter, and compassion, and she cared tremendously for all people. She is now resting fully in the arms of Jesus where she has always longed to be.
