Sharon Matthews

Sharon Matthews, 84, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Solace House of the Ozarks in Joplin, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born in Wheaton, Missouri on April 2, 1941, to George and Marie McMillen. She has been a longtime resident of Carthage and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She managed the Coastal- Mart in Carthage for several years before retiring.

Sharon was united in marriage to Frank Gilbreath on September 7, 2019, at Bethany Baptist Church in Carthage; he survives. 

Beside her husband Frank, Sharon is survived by two sons, Kendall Matthews of Carthage, and Keith Matthews (Felecia) of Joplin; one stepson, Scott Gilbreath (Tammy) of Carthage; one stepdaughter, Lori Terry (Joel) of Carthage; two grandchildren, Bryson Matthews and Brecklyn Matthews; three step grandchildren, Lindsay Terry, Megan Clay, and Loren Gilbreath; two step great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Matthews on September 3, 2006.

There will be a funeral service held for Sharon at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage. The visitation will be held the night before on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Ulmer Funeral Home. The burial will take place at Ozark Prairie Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
