Traci Thomas

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Traci Ann Thomas, a devoted mother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at the age of 67. Born and raised in the communities of Joplin and Webb City, Missouri, Traci’s legendary wit and willingness to help anyone in need left an enduring mark on all who knew her.

Traci truly did not know a stranger, and her vibrant personality made every encounter memorable. She was described as witty and extremely willing to help anyone in need. She poured that same dedication and warmth into her career, serving as a trusted Shelter Insurance Agent for 22 years, where she built lasting relationships with her clients and colleagues.

Outside of her professional life, Traci embraced her passions with enthusiasm. She was an avid golfer, world traveler, and enjoyed the thrill of skiing. Her hands were rarely idle, finding joy and peace in gardening. Traci was perhaps best known by family and friends for her legendary cooking and pickle making, a talent that brought warmth and fellowship to many gatherings. A loyal fan, she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her Kansas City Chiefs football team. Above all, Traci’s greatest loves where her family and her beloved Australian Shepherds, Hatty and Henry, who were always by her side.

Traci was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Joan Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Chancy Orem and Chancy’s partner, Harrison Rector, of Strafford, Missouri; her brother, Steve Thomas and his wife, Tammy, of Carl Junction, Missouri. Traci also leaves behind a host of extended family and countless friends who will miss her dearly.

In accordance with Traci’s expressed wishes and her extreme dislike of formal services, the family will host a Celebration of Life instead of a funeral. Friends and family are invited to share memories and celebrate Traci’s remarkable life:

Date: Saturday, November 29, 2025
Time: 1-3 PM
Location: Mythos (Joplin, MO)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Traci’s honor to two causes she cared about: the Joplin Humane Society or the Joplin Area Agency on Aging.
