Cynthia Powers

From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Cynthia Powers (Oldroyd), age 103, of Seneca, MO passed away Saturday November 29, 2025 following a sudden decline in health. She enjoyed a long and endearing life—

---a life well lived.

She was born September 5, 1922 in Blackpool, England to Walter and Doris (Crooks) Oldroyd.

“I wandered lonely as a cloud, that floats on high o’er vales and hills, when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils…”

Cynthia enjoyed and was interested in so many things in life…which in turn made her a very interesting person, the excerpt above is from a poem that she had memorized as a child and could recite at a moment’s call—right up until last week.

She often said she felt that she had lived three lives. The first, was her early childhood/adulthood growing up in Blackpool England during the WWII era. She worked in the “Land army” to help with the War cause and eventually met her future husband one night while ballroom dancing. The second, was coming to America on the bride ship “the Queen Mary” and being married to Kenneth (March 9 th 1944) for over 50 years raising 4 children. And the third, after Kenneth had passed her last 30 years living in a small cottage by herself in a beautiful country setting beside a clear water stream on her son Michael’s property. This is where she would read, write, paint, sew, worry, love…and so many other things.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, a daughter, Anne Richardson, grandchild Angela Richardson, Jerry Richardson (son-in-law), and Curtis Campbell (son-in-law).

She is survived by two sons & daughter-in-law’s, Michael Powers & Marsha of Seneca, MO, John Powers & Sonya of Pea Ridge, AR; one daughter, Linda Campbell of Joplin, MO, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 5 great/great grandchildren.

“The moving finger writes; and having writ, moves on…not all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line, nor all thy tears wash away a word of it.”

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday December 3, 2025 at the Saginaw Cemetery with Grandson Brandon Campbell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society and can be sent in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory Joplin, Missouri.
