Myrl David Gunn, age 77, formerly of Joplin, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at his home in Denver, Colorado after a sudden illness.
Myrl was born September 17, 1937 in Nevada, Missouri to the late Joe Gunn and Lorraine Burns Gunn and had lived in the Joplin area since 1944 before he moved to Denver in 1986.
He attended Joplin Junior College and worked as an officer for the Joplin Police Department from 1965 until retiring in 1986. In Denver, he worked as a security guard for several years until he retired.
Myrl was a member of Myrtle Lodge #149, AF & AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Kansas City Consistory #7; Ukhfi Shrine Temple #203, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Trinity Methodist Church, Joplin and attended True Light Baptist Church, Denver.
He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Weathers and her husband, Anthony, Joplin, Latrisha Ratcliff and her husband, Lamonte, Joplin; one brother, Joseph Gunn and his wife, Gladys, Denver; grandchildren, Tre Weathers, Olathe, Kansas, Tristan and Kyliece Weathers, Joplin; niece, Robin Gunn Smith; and nephews, Peter Gunn, Colorado, Edward Dennis Gunn, Texas and Paul Anthony Gunn of Texas.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Parkway Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tre Weathers, Tristan Weathers, Bruce Land, Victor Washington, Delonte Colbert and Kevin Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gayle Wells, Chris Jennings, Ken Copeland, Larry Tennis, Kelly Meadows, Dale Owen, J.D. Love and Jon Hubbard.
Repass will follow the services at Hackett's, 520 S. Main, Joplin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
