Bessie Mae (Tyler) Gibson Johnson, age 84, Joplin, passed away at 7:06 a.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Mercy Hospital.
Bessie was born February 7, 1931 in Neosho to the late William Guy Tyler and Etta Mae Bartelmei Tyler and had lived in Joplin during the 1970's and again since 1998.
She taught toile painting and stained glass at Missouri Southern State College. Bessie was a member of the Joplin Welcome Club; served as president of the Faculty Wives Club at Missouri Southern in 1976 and served as president of the Junior Woman's Club of America, Pittsburg, California in 1960. She was a faithful member of Park Plaza Christian Church.
Bessie married Paul W. Johnson on August 14, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. He survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Barbara Goulding, Joplin; two grandchildren, Shawn Goulding, Cheryl Flemate; two great grandchildren, Gina, Emily; a sister, Dorothy Gouge, Joplin and three brothers, Gale Tyler, Joplin, Kenneth Tyler, Neosho and Floyd Tyler, Corona, California.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Gibson and four siblings.
Services are planned for Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church. B.A. Austin, Minster, will officiate. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Pallbearers will be Ken Tyler, Floyd Tyler, Scott Crane, Tom Johnson, Doc Edwards and Rick Goswick. Honorary pallbearer will be Gale Tyler. Memorial contributions may be made to Park Plaza Christian Church, in care of Parker Mortuary.
