Phyllis Spain, age 79, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 while at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
Phyllis was born on September 29, 1935 in Urbana, MO, daughter of the late Homer and Ruby (Keller) Davis Davolt Sweezey. She had graduated from Jasper High School in 1953 and then furthered her education at the Kansas City Business College. Phyllis worked for many years in Kansas City for Bendix, which later became Allied Signal and Honeywell, retiring in 1986. She was also a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin.
On December 7, 1954 in Kansas City, Phyllis married Jesse E. Spain. To this union, one daughter was born. Jesse preceded Phyllis in death on March 31, 1991.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Peggy Guilliams, and husband Dell, of Joplin; two brothers, James Davis, of Springfield, MO and John Davis and wife Guyan, of Galesburg, KS; one sister, Geraldine Delaney, of Peculiar, MO; two grandchildren, Wes and Alex Guilliams; and two great-grandchildren, Gage and Van Guilliams. Phyllis was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Davis; and three sisters, Barbara Lou Davis, Judy Davis Hanson and Debra Davis Mason.
Graveside services for Phyllis will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monett. Reverend Orville Wiseman will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been requested to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
