Donald Eugene Hoagland, age 88, left this world to be with his Lord on Saturday morning, June 4, 2016 at Joplin Gardens in Joplin, MO following an illness.
His loving parents, Albert Washington Hoagland and Martha Carlotta Charlotta (Huerkamp) Hoagland, welcomed Don into the world on December 5, 1927 in Joplin. He was a lifetime area resident.
He served in the U S Air Force post WWII. He managed Four State Auto Supply in Joplin for 25 years before opening Auto Parts Supply in Joplin in 1971. He changed the name of the company to United Automotive and retired in 1992.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin. His favorite pastimes were tending his garden, doing yard work, and watching the purple martins fly around his birdhouses. He loved nature and enjoyed spending time with his family at his cabin on Big Sugar Creek.
Don married Mary Tyler on January 6, 1951 in Joplin. Mary survives along with their children: one son, David Hoagland (wife, Rosemary) Carterville, MO; two daughters, Linda Farris (husband, John) Carl Junction, MO, and Susan Hoagland, Freistatt, MO. His sister, Helen Holt, Joplin, MO also survives. Don also has 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Don has been reunited in Heaven with his parents, one brother, James “Bud” Hoagland, and one sister, Evelyn “Abby” Hoagland.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Monday, June 6, 2016 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin, MO. Rev. Gregory Mech will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Webb City, MO.
Flowers may be sent to Derfelt Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
