Peggy Parks, age 77 of Neosho, died June 7, 2016 at her home following eight months of ill health.
Peggy was born Sept. 22, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Edward M. and Virginia (McKinley) Randolph. She graduated from Neosho High School and from Missouri Southern State College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught first grade at TriWay Elementary School and then moved to Elign, Oklahoma and taught first grade there. She returned to Neosho in 1966 from Wichita, Kansas and taught in the Granby East Newton School system until 1977 when she joined her husband, Jim in the family insurance business, Parks Insurance, retiring in 2007.
Following her retirement, Peggy was an active community volunteer until her illness. Peggy was an active member of DAR and had served as regent and was also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames. She volunteered for the Newton County American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, Neosho Garden Club and Project 339. She was a member of the Neosho United Methodist Church.
Peggy and James ‘Jim’ Parks were married on December 6, 1958 and he survives. Additional survivors include a son, Chris Parks and wife, Lisa of Neosho; a daughter, Penny Messenger and husband, Gary of Peoria, Illinois; grandchildren, Samuel Parks, Jackson Parks, Kyle Messenger, Evan Messenger and Olivia Messenger; a brother, Paul Randolph of Ketchum, Idaho and an aunt, Joyce Barger of Aurora, Colorado.
Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.
