Mrs. Sarah Ellen Horton, 78, of Jane, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after a long illness.
Sarah entered this life on May 26, 1938, in Paola, Kansas, daughter of the late George and Bertha (Buckner) DeVore. Her formative years were spent in Osawatomie, Kansas. On February 13, 1955, she was united in marriage to Edward Horton and to this union three children were born. They resided in the Kansas City area for several years. After retiring they resided in Warsaw and Neosho, Missouri before moving to McDonald County in 1990. She enjoyed embroidery and sewing projects, writing letters and mailing out numerous Christmas cards. Sarah was of the Assembly of God Faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two siblings, Ardella Thacker and James DeVore.
Sarah is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Edward Horton of the home; three children, Elmer Horton of Little Rock, Arkansas, Rose Darby and husband, Jim, of Purdy, Missouri and Mark Horton and wife, Judy, of Jane, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Bill Horton, Chris Horton, David Horton, Priscilla Mace, James Mace, Jr., Becky Young, Tabitha Baker and Mark A. Horton; fourteen great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a brother, Guy DeVore of Sedalia, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Horton will be held on Thursday afternoon, June 9. 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Bro. Harold Shull officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Bill Horton, Chris Horton, David Horton, James Mace, Jr., Mark A. Horton, James Baker, David Young and Ty Jones. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
