David Len Michael, age 63, Joplin, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital.
David was born September 30, 1953 in Denison, Texas to Carol Janeice Gahagan Michael and the late Albert Len Michael and had lived in Joplin most of his life.
He worked in the auto body industry all of his adult life, working at Dan Stanley Ford and R&S Chevrolet. In January of 1986, he founded Blackcat Body Shop and was still owner and operator.
David was a longtime member of the Elk's Lodge #501. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was spending time at the lake house, auto racing, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing or just spending time with family and friends. David never served in the armed forces, but was very patriotic. He was a selfless person, always putting others needs first. David will be missed by all that knew him.
He married the love of his life, Kimberly Sills, on June 23, 1984 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include his mother, Carol Janeice Michael, Hampton, Virginia; three sisters, Linda Poole, Tulsa, OK, Karen Villano and her husband, Danny, Keller, Texas, Sharon Michael, Joplin; nieces, Alexandra Poole, Darby Villano, Samantha Villano; and his two favorite sidekicks, Jenny and Rigger.
Services are planned for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Dr. Andrew Fritsch will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Eads, Tim Goggins, Jimmy Curtis, Harold Garoutte, Larry Kennedy, Jerry Reynolds and Steve Dimetroff. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Elk's Christmas Basket Program, in care of Parker Mortuary.
