Garnett L. Taylor, age 82, of Joplin, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Thursday October 27, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, following a short illness.
Garnett was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1933 in Joplin, the daughter of the late George L. and Martha Rachel (Snow) Barnard. She was a homemaker and worked various jobs throughout her life. She retired from LaBarge. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she was very active in Church activities. She was a beloved mother and grandmother.
She married Harold O’Banion on March 2, 1950. They were married for over fifty years. Harold passed away on November 1, 2001. She married Leon Taylor in 2006 and he preceded her in death on January 29, 2011. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and six brothers.
Garnett is survived by two daughters, Linda Gilstrap and her husband Bill, Joplin and Theresa Storie and her husband Tony, Joplin; one son, Harold O’Banion and his wife Marilyn, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Barnard; one sister, Connie Coleman; four grandchildren, Kelly Gilstrap, Jolene Sapp, Casey Brower, and Tyler O’Banion; five great-grandchildren, Jeseca Tourigny, Sameah Stevenson, Anslie Brower, Stella Rose O’Banion, and Violet Grace O’Banion; and one great-great grandchild, Jenson Trevor Cole Tourigny.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Rex Wakefield will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Dustin Coleman, Tony Storie, Ryan Tourigny, Tyler O’Banion, Ernie Wright, and Bill Barnard. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Gilstrap, Casey Brower, and Roger Sapp.
The family will receive friends 3-4 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung association in care of the mortuary.
