Luz Maria Santiago, age 70, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital after a brief illness with family at her side.
Luz was born January 2, 1946 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Rafael Santiago and Agripina Torres Santiago. She grew up in Puerto Rico where she was one of eight children, she graduated from High School and attended College before moving to New Jersey where she married Clotilde Santiago in 1964. She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother who enjoyed shopping, knitting, traveling, and baking delicious deserts.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Clotilde; daughter, Sofia Jeannette Velazquez and husband Juan of Joplin; sons, Jose Antonio Santiago of Joplin, and Rafael Santiago and wife Rebekah of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Heidsha Peterson and husband Ben of Joplin, Rhaysa Paoni and husband Benjamin of Kansas City, Joshua Velazquez, Melissa Marie Santiago, Jose A. Santiago, Jr., Kaitlyn Jo Morgan, Lexi Amaya Santiago, Amani Alexander Santiago.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Committal of her ashes will be Monday, October 17, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Father Justin Monaghan officiating
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
