Sandra Kay “Sandy” Johnson, age 71, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her home.
Sandy was born on July 14, 1945, in Miami, Oklahoma to the union of the late Euell and Sadie (Blevins) Mayes. She was raised in the Miami and Commerce, Oklahoma area and she attended Kansas State School for the Blind in Kansas City, Kansas. Sandy was a waitress for several years at Pat’s CafĂ© in Joplin. She loved sitting in her recliner and listening to various sorts of audio books. Sandy was a dog lover and you could always find her little Sophie on her lap in the recliner or following right behind her wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Dennis McCoy.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Senter, and husband, Dennis, of Miami, Oklahoma; her daughter-in-law, Laurri May McCoy, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, Sarah Keener, Sawyer Pooler, Sam May, Amanda Snef, Michael Snef, Shannon Snef and Brandon Snef; her close friends, Debbie Carter and Frank Eulitt of Miami, Oklahoma, Ray Crabaugh, Susan Spencer, and Jeremy Baine and his son, Lucas, all of Joplin, two honorary grandchildren, Hailey and Hayden; and her loving caregiver, Sarah Hight, from Independent Living Center.
A memorial celebration of life will be held by Sandy’s family and friends at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
