Scipione “Sib” J. Mendicki, 96, of Frontenac, passed away at 3:13 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, Kansas.
He was born February 16, 1920 at Burgess, Missouri, the son of Servario and Rosa (Cipelli) Mendicki. He attended Frontenac schools and graduated from Frontenac High School. Mr. Mendicki drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and served in Patton’s 71st Division during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star and two Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
On August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dorothy C. Dittman at Arma, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2013. From 1946 to 1980, he and his wife lived in Joplin, before moving back to Frontenac. Sib worked as a Sales Manager for Frank Evans Distribution in Joplin, Missouri and later for Joe Smith Tobacco in Pittsburg, Kansas. Membership was held in Frontenac United Methodist Church, V.F.W, Frontenac American Legion Post No. 43, Disabled Veterans and Poker and Pinochle clubs.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon K. Feagan of Carthage, MO; two grandchildren Aaron and Troy Feagan; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Sage. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, James Mendicki, a sister Jennie Mendicki, and two brothers Matt and Alfonse Mendicki.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 27) at the Frontenac United Methodist Church with Rev. Annie Ricker officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery where the Frontenac American Legion Post No. 43 will conduct graveside military rites. Memorials may be given to the Frontenac United Methodist Church, Frontenac Education Foundation or American Heart Association.
