Betty Ruth Coursey, age 93, of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Joplin Gardens in Joplin, Betty was born May 30, 1923 in Perth, Kansas and moved to Joplin 15 years ago from Wheaton, Mo. Betty was employed as a secretary with Cooper Industries in Bella Vista, Ark. Previously she and her husband owned a dry cleaning business in Fort Lupton, Co. She was a member of the South Joplin Christian Church, and was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Betty married Henry W. Coursey June 1, 1941 in Denver Co. and he survives. Additional survivors include two sons, George Coursey and wife Joyce, Bella Vista, Ar., and Richard H. Coursey and wife Jackie, Aurora, Mo., two daughters, Linda Johnson and husband Bill, Loveland, Co. and Patricia Hinds, Webb City, Mo., 9 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two sons, Elbert Lee Coursey, and James LeRoy Coursey, her parents, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18th. at the South Joplin Christian Church with Rev. Dr. Colleen Carroll officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church. Following the services Betty will be cremated and her ashes buried in the Elmwood Cemetery, Brighton, Co. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
