Henrietta Callen, age 98, formerly of Liberal, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Good Shepherd Community Care in Lockwood.
Henrietta was born July 15, 1918 in Liberal, one of the four children of Taylor and Bertha (Comby) Palmer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Callen; two brothers, Gerald and Harl Palmer; and her sister, Carol Robertson.
After graduating from Liberal High School, Henrietta furthered her education in Business School in Kansas City where she met the love of her life, Samuel W. Callen. On June 24, 1945, at Liberal, Missouri, they married, and made their home in Kansas City where Henrietta worked as an executive secretary for Commerce Bank for many years. After retiring in 1975, Sam and Henrietta moved to Springfield in 1979 and were active members of Wesley United Methodist Church. They enjoyed travelling and had made great memories through trips to Europe as well as all across the United States. Henrietta was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and organ. After sharing 54 years together, Sam passed away September 26, 1999. In 2007 Henrietta moved to Lamar to be near family, living there until 2011 when she entered Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood.
Survivors include four nieces and their families, Linda (Ron) Woodall, Tucson, Arizona, Judy Loch, Oswego, Illinois, Becky (David) Blackford, Lamar, and Sandy (Earl) Karas, Warrensburg, Missouri; several nephews and nieces; and extended family.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 31st, at Iantha Cemetery with Dr. Mark Turnbough officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Good Shepherd Community Care Center or charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
